Abstract

The prevalence of oral health problems in the Jakarta Special Capital Region (DKI Jakarta) according to the Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) results in 2018 was 59.1%. Pericoronitis and periodontal disease are common oral cavity issues. Knowledge about maintaining oral health is a key factor in achieving a good quality of life. To increase public understanding of the importance of dental and oral care, this knowledge program is designed to provide holistic and practical information. Therefore, education in the form of counseling and training is needed by directly engaging with the community to emphasize the importance of dental and oral health care, targeting mothers from the Family Welfare Movement (PKK) and Integrated Health Service Post (Posyandu) cadres in the Grogol sub-district. The results show a significant difference between pre-test and post-test (p < 0.0001). In conclusion, the knowledge of participants improves after receiving counseling and training.

Abstract

Bad breath, or commonly known as halitosis, is a health problem that is often overlooked. It can harm a person's daily life, including social isolation, anxiety, and discomfort. Halitosis can be divided into two types: genuine halitosis (related to oral issues) and delusional halitosis (related to false perceptions). Most cases of halitosis are caused by oral hygiene problems such as reduced saliva, dry mouth, gingivitis, periodontitis, and the use of dentures. Specific bacteria in the mouth can produce foul-smelling compounds known as volatile sulfur compounds (VSCs), such as methyl mercaptan and hydrogen sulfide. Additionally, halitosis can also result from systemic issues or bad habits. It is important to provide education to the community on how to address halitosis and maintain oral hygiene. Steps like regular tooth brushing, tongue cleaning, using dental floss, and avoiding strongly aromatic foods can help reduce the risk of halitosis. In the community of RT015/RW008, Kelurahan Jatipulo, West Jakarta, this education is particularly crucial because the level of knowledge about oral health is low. Through education and training, it is hoped that the community can recognize the causes of halitosis and address the issue before seeking medical help. This will improve the quality of life for the community, boost their self-confidence, and help prevent more serious oral health.

Abstract

Background: Anxiety is a human emotion that causes a feeling of worry, tension, and discomfort. In dentistry, anxiety is known as dental anxiety, which is the cause of symptoms of psychological disorders, such as depression, fear, and feelings of discomfort towards dental treatment. Dental anxiety is related to age, gender, education level, history of traumatic dental experience, and knowledge of dental care. One of the dental treatments is fixed dentures. Ideally, tooth loss should be replaced to anticipate various disorders that can occur. However, many have not done denture treatment to replace missing teeth, and anxiety is one of the reasons someone did not do denture treatment. Objective: To describe the level of anxiety in patients undergoing fixed denture treatment. Method: This type of research is descriptive observational with a cross-sectional design. This research was conducted by distributing a questionnaire containing 9 questions regarding the treatment of fixed dentures. Results: The results of this study indicate patient anxiety with a low anxiety level of 23.3%, a moderate anxiety level of 70%, and a high anxiety level of 6.7%. Female patients have a higher level of anxiety than men. Patients with adulthood have a higher level of anxiety than the elderly. Patients with primary and secondary education levels have the highest anxiety levels, and patients with the 2nd and 3rd number of visits also have the highest anxiety levels. Conclusion: Most of the fixed denture patients at RSGM-P FKG Usakti have moderate anxiety levels.

Abstract

Introduction: Tooth loss affects a person's appearance and health, impacting their quality of life. Teeth play an essential role in chewing and aesthetics, particularly the anterior teeth. Dental trauma such as fractures can affect appearance and psychology, reducing self-confidence. Currently, aesthetics is a top priority in dental care. Tooth loss leads to complex oral problems, thus missing teeth need to be replaced with dentures. Methods: This study explores the use of various gingival retraction techniques before impression taking in prosthodontic treatment. The methods analyzed include mechanical, chemical, and surgical techniques, with a focus on retraction using retraction cords soaked in hemostatic agents to ensure accurate and blood-free gingival margins before impression taking. Discussion: Accurate impressions depend on proper tooth preparation and healthy soft tissue conditions. Effective gingival retraction is crucial for obtaining good impressions, especially at the cervical and gingival margins. Mechanical methods using retraction cords are commonly used due to their effectiveness, speed, simplicity, and affordability. However, chemical methods may pose risks to the gingiva, while surgical methods are more complex. Conclusion: Accurate impressions for fixed dentures require healthy soft tissues without periodontal disease. Gingival retraction before impression taking is essential for achieving accurate impressions, ensuring that the cervical margins are well defined. Retraction methods include mechanical, chemical, and surgical approaches, with mechanical methods being the common choice due to their effectiveness and simplicity.

Abstract

This study discusses the obstacles faced by the Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU) in enforcing competition law, with a focus on the difficulty in obtaining adequate evidence, the lack of authority to force related parties, and the unclear procedures that can harm the reporter and the reported. The research method used is a normative legal approach with an analysis of Law No. 5 of 1999 concerning the Prohibition of Monopolistic Practices and Unfair Business Competition. The main findings show that the KPPU faces serious obstacles in enforcing the law due to the lack of direct execution authority, non-transparent procedures, and the lack of legal protection for reporters. This study recommends several steps, including synchronizing Law No. 5 of 1999 with civil procedural law, granting direct execution authority to the KPPU, adding more stringent and effective sanctions, and increasing coordination between law enforcement agencies to accelerate the implementation of decisions and create a healthier and fairer business competition system.
