Abstract

The process of preparing a thesis is a crucial stage in the academic journey of undergraduate Biology students. At this stage, students are faced with complex and demanding tasks, requiring effective self-regulation skills and resilience to academic pressure. This research aims to investigate the relationship between self-efficacy and academic stress among undergraduate Biology students at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Pattimura University, during the thesis preparation process. This research employs a quantitative approach with data collection through questionnaires distributed to undergraduate Biology students. Statistical analyses, such as correlation, will be utilized to assess the relationship between self-efficacy and academic stress. The research findings reveal that the most common level of self-efficacy falls within the moderate category. Meanwhile, the categorization of academic stress levels indicates that the majority of respondents, comprising 19 individuals (44.2%), experience mild stress. Statistical analysis unveils a significant relationship between the level of self-efficacy and academic stress among students.

Abstract

Sargassum sp is rich in steroid, alkaloid, phenol, flavonoid, saponin, and tannin components, which have anti-malarial and immunomodulatory properties. This study aimed to assess the anti-malarial effects of an extract from brown algae Sargassum sp on liver cells in Plasmodium berghei-infected house mouse (Mus musculus). Twenty to thirty-gramme house mice were infected with Plasmodium berghei at a dosage of 0.1 ml per tail and monitored until the parasitemia level reached 1-5%. Subsequently, house mice (Mus musculus) were administered methanol extract of brown algae Sargassum sp at 10, 100, and 200 mg/g BW doses for four consecutive days, from day 0 to day 6. On day 6, surgery was performed to extract the liver organ and prepare histological preparations. The findings demonstrated that applying Sargassum sp extract effectively improved the restoration of liver damage in house mice infected with Plasmodium berghei.

Abstract

According to the Indonesian Internet Service Providers Association (APJII) in 2018, approximately 49.52% of all internet users in Indonesia are aged between 19 and 34 years, with the majority of this age group being students. Prolonged computer use can lead to higher levels of asthenopia compared to other types of work. This study aims to examine the correlation between computer usage duration and the occurrence of asthenopia among students. A correlational design with a cross-sectional approach was employed in this study. A total of 76 participants were included, and data were collected via a questionnaire distributed online using Google Forms, which the respondents completed. The collected data were then analyzed univariately and bivariately using SPSS software. The results indicate that the majority of respondents experienced mild asthenopia, with a percentage of 78.9%. Statistical analysis showed no significant relationship between gender, duration of computer use, eye break intervals, history of major eye diseases, and medication consumption with the occurrence of asthenopia (p>0.05). However, a significant relationship was found between age and the occurrence of asthenopia (p<0.05).

Abstract

Background: Good visual acuity is important for school-aged children; uncorrected myopia can hinder participation in sports, highlighting the need for vision screening and intervention planning in schools. Aim: To examine the association between uncorrected myopic refractive errors and patterns of sports participation among students at SMA 15 West Seram Regency. Methods: This study employed a quantitative cross-sectional study design. A total of 76 students with myopic refractive errors were included as respondents. Data were collected directly using a structured questionnaire that assessed the degree of myopia, type of sports activities, and duration of physical activity. Data analysis was performed using the chi-square test with SPSS to determine the association between the degree of uncorrected myopia and sports activity variables. Results: The findings showed no statistically significant association between the degree of uncorrected myopic refractive error and the type of sports activities performed (p > 0.05), nor with the duration of sports activities (p > 0.05). Although students with mild myopia tended to prefer volleyball and engaged in sports activities for approximately two hours, these tendencies did not demonstrate significant statistical relationships. Conclusion: Uncorrected myopia was not significantly linked to sports type or duration among students, suggesting non-visual factors play a stronger role in adolescents’ participation in school sports activities overall in context.
