Abstract

Abstract

The increase in blood sugar is a common effect of uncontrolled diabetes mellitus (DM), which can cause serious damage to the nervous system and blood vessels over time. Research shows that due to time constraints, DM patients often have difficulty engaging in physical activities. Diabetic foot exercises have been recommended as a physical activity that can be done anytime and anywhere, including while relaxing with family. These simple exercises can help improve blood circulation, strengthen the small muscles in the feet, prevent foot deformities, and address the limited insulin levels in DM patients. This activity aims to introduce foot exercises to the community, particularly the elderly with DM issues so that they can engage in physical activity despite physical and time limitations. The method involves conducting simulations and health education three times a week. The results showed decreased blood sugar levels in the elderly who participated in this foot exercise program. Hopefully, these foot exercise activities can become an alternative and regular option, especially for the elderly in Ari Satan, Musi Rawas Regency.

Abstract

Introduction: Sleep disorders affecting 40 to 70% of older adults manifest sleep disorders. Compromised sleep detrimentally impacts older adults, leading to daytime sleepiness, heightened fall risks, and cognitive decline. Demonstrates promising therapy in enhancing sleep quality and reducing fatigue through laughter therapy cards. Objective: The study aimed to construct and test the effect of laughter cards on improving the sleep quality of old adults in Lubuklinggau City, South Sumatra, Indonesia. Method: This quantitative study was conducted with a quasi-experimental approach. A total of 32 participants took part in this study, of which 32 participants attended laughter therapies with laughter therapy cards in 1 month by doing activities in laughter therapy four times in 1 month, each 45 minutes, before and after laughter therapies are assessed by PSQI score. The Cronbach's alpha coefficients used were 0.81. The paired t-test was used to determine the data statistically. Result: Before and after therapies showed different values of PSQI score. PSQI score of older adults before treatments (10.50), became (7.68) after therapies, and had a statistically significant p 0.001. Recommendation: Continuous laughter therapies are non-pharmacological therapy for older adults with a sleep disorder

Abstract

Introduction: One of the most critical aspects that determine the growth of education is learning, which is a process of obtaining a lot of development, both in terms of knowledge, attitudes, and skills. One thing that needs to be improved is the knowledge and skills of IV-Cath insertion as a basis for nursing practice. One of the educational media to attract students' attention is comics. The advantage of the comic is that it is easy to understand with simple pictures plus words in daily language so that comics can be read easily. Objective: The study aimed to test the effect of the IV-Cath Comic on knowledge of IV-Cath Insertion in nursing students Baturaja, South Sumatra, Indonesia. Method: This research was a quantitative study with a quasi-experimental approach using pre and post-tests with a total sample of 78 nursing students from the Health Polytechnic of Palembang in Baturaja. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon test because the data was not normally distributed. Result: The results of the Wilcoxon analysis test obtained the value of Sig. (2-tailed) of 0.000 <0.05, an average difference exists between the pre-and post-test scores. Conclusion: In conclusion, there is an increase in knowledge of IV-Cath insertion after using comic media. Recommendation: This IV-Cath comic can be used as a practical learning media to increase students' knowledge about IV-Cath insertion. For further research, we suggest examining student motivation and enthusiasm for learning.
