Abstract

Psychology has provided a significant effect in describing human behavior in the modern era. However, despite the extensive development of theories in modern psychology, this field of science still needs to improve in terms of terminology, epistemology, and worldview. One of the Muslim psychologists who criticized this problem was Utsman Najati. This research was library research, and the data sources consisted of primary data sources from Utsman Najati's works related to Psychology, and secondary data sources, namely in the form of books, which were relevant to this research to strengthen arguments and to complement data from research results. The data analysis technique used by the authors in this study was content analysis. The findings obtained from this paper were as follows: First, Utsman Najati revealed the disparity between the terms of psychology and research objects which were limited to behavior; Second, Utsman Najati uncovered the problem of the epistemology of psychology, which limited itself to empirical things; Third, a materialistic and atheist perspective in several schools of modern psychology contradicted the Islamic view of life.

Abstract

The prevalence of mental health disorders in contemporary society underscores the need for effective psychotherapeutic approaches. While modern psychotherapy has made significant strides, the potential of Sufistic approaches, particularly in Islamic contexts, remains largely unexplored. This study examines the dhikr (remembrance of God) concept of Abdurrauf al-Singkili, a prominent 17th-century Indonesian Sufi, as a psychotherapeutic model. Through extensive library research, utilizing documentary techniques to analyze Abdurrauf's works and related scholarly materials, this study employs content analysis to elucidate his unique approach to dhikr. The findings reveal that Abdurrauf's dhikr concept offers a comprehensive Sufistic approach to psychotherapy, potentially serving as an alternative or complementary model in addressing current mental health challenges. Abdurrauf's conceptualization of dhikr as a means for spiritual fortification and psychological tranquility demonstrates remarkable parallels with contemporary meditation and relaxation therapy techniques. This research contributes to the growing body of literature on integrative psychotherapy, highlighting the relevance of traditional Sufistic practices in modern mental health interventions.

Abstract

Freud's psychosexual is a theory that is quite influential in describing human personality in the contemporary era. Freud viewed that human mental health disorders (neurotic) were greatly influenced by his sexual experiences in childhood. In contrast to Islam, Abdullah Nashih 'Ulwan through his work describes a more holistic concept of child development that includes various aspects of human qualities. Therefore, this paper aims to conduct a comparative study between Abdullah Nashih 'Ulwan's concept of child development and Freud's Psychosexual. This research is a library research and the data sources used consist of primary data sources of Sigmund Freud's works and secondary data sources in the form of books, which are relevant to this research to strengthen the argumentation and to complement the data from the research results. The data analysis technique used by the author in this research is content analysis. As for the findings that the author gets from this paper, first, psychosexuality has epistemological problems and worldviews that are not in accordance with the Islamic worldview. second, psychosexuality views human nature partially, which only sees from the aspect of sexuality alone. Third, 'Ulwan describes a more holistic child development by reviewing all aspects of human quality itself which includes aspects of Īmāniyyah, khuluqiyyah, Ijtimā'iyyah, a'qliyyah, nafsiyyah, ruhiyyah and Jinsiyyah.

Abstract

The Qur'an as a miracle amazes linguists about the depth of meaning and use of language in it. This aspect of the miracle of language is what makes the Koran remain eternal in its glory until the end of time. However, unfortunately, due to a lack of linguistic understanding and correct interpretation, language terms in the Koran are often misused. The words al-jahālah and al-jahiliyyah are no exception. There are some people who carelessly use the word jāhiliyyah with an incorrect meaning. This research aims to describe the concepts of al-jahālah and al-jāhiliyyah through semantic analysis and interpretation from authoritative Al-Qur'an exegetes. This article is library research that uses documentary techniques to collect data from various verses in the Koran and their interpretations from classical and contemporary tafsir books. The data that has been collected is then analyzed using the content analysis method. The findings in this research show that the word al-jāhalah is used for disgraceful acts whether from the absence or existence of knowledge, while jāhiliyyah is used to refer to teachings or despicable traits before the arrival of Islamic law, both in the psychological, ethical, legal and belief aspects. Through this research, the author hopes that there will be an integrative study of key concepts of language with the Al-Qur'an, such as jāhalah and jāhiliyyah with problematic issues in people's lives in the contemporary era.
