Abstract

This article discusses the natural disasters that occurred in Kerinci during the Dutch colonial period 1920-1939. In this disaster the people of Kerinci suffered enormous losses. For this reason, in the study there are several problems to be discussed, namely, what natural disasters hit Kerinci during the Dutch Colonial period. The historical method used in this research is by collecting data through heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The results of this study reveal that Kerinci experienced a series of natural disasters in 1920-1939. Earthquakes, floods, fires, and others. Some events such as earthquakes were not considered destructive, and there were also events that caused material losses and casualties. Kerinci's geography is often a factor in triggering natural disasters to occur. In 1939, an earthquake that shook Kerinci served as a reminder of the potential dangers inherent in its natural beauty, especially the presence of the active Mount Kerinci. Although the community showed resilience and solidarity, disaster management during the colonial period was centered on the government, which undertook mitigation efforts and coordinated relief such as the delivery of medicines and medical and other assistance. This research provides an overview of Kerinci's vulnerability to natural disasters during the Dutch colonial period. While communities and the colonial government attempted to respond to disasters, challenges and complexities remained part of the relief effort.

Abstract

This article discusses the Analysis of a Comparative Study of the Law on the Restriction of the Marriage Age in Indonesia and Malaysia. This study aims to compare the laws restricting the age of marriage in the two countries. This study uses a literature study method by collecting sources from books, journal articles, and relevant themes. The results of this study show that there is a difference between the laws restricting the age of marriage in Indonesia and Malaysia. In Indonesia, the minimum age limit is 19 years old for boys and girls, while in Malaysia, the minimum age limit for girls is 16 years old and 18 years old for boys. In addition, the study also highlighted that the marriage age restriction in Indonesia reflects gender equality, while in Malaysia a lower age is set to anticipate the risk of pregnancy out of wedlock, elopement, and similar problems. Not only that, by setting a minimum age limit, the law seeks to protect the welfare of children and ensure that marriage occurs at a mature and responsible age so that children born can grow up in a healthy and stable environment.

Abstract

This paper discusses the development of the spatial structure and layout of the city of Padang over time, from its early formation phase, through the colonial period, the era of independence, and into the post-independence period. The study employs a systematic historical approach through four main stages: heuristics (source collection), criticism (source evaluation and verification), interpretation (analysis of meaning and relationships between data), and historiography (narrative and analytical historical writing). The research findings indicate that the city of Padang has undergone significant changes in physical, social, economic, and functional aspects. The colonial period stands out as one of the most decisive phases, during which Padang rapidly developed as a center of government, trade, military, and transportation on the west coast of Sumatra. This development was driven by several strategic factors, including advantageous geographical location, well-organized colonial governance, the influx of migrants from various ethnic backgrounds, and the construction of urban infrastructure. Interactions between local residents and outsiders also enriched the city's cultural configuration and identity. Thus, this study provides a comprehensive and in-depth picture of how Padang has transformed over time as a result of a long, complex historical process influenced by various internal and external dynamics.
