Abstract

This article examines the views of Islamic religious figures regarding the Green Open Space (RTH) corruption case in Cisurupan Village, Cibiru District, Bandung City, as well as their role in preventing similar corruption. Considering that the majority of Cisurupan residents are Muslim, this research highlights the views of religious figures from various backgrounds. Qualitative research methods with a field study approach were used. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with four religious figures who play a role in society, education, MUI, and government, as well as secondary data from literature and internet sources. Data analysis compares interview results with literature to understand the perceptions and role of religious figures in RTH corruption cases. The research results show that religious figures' views on corruption vary. Some consider corruption a religious violation due to a lack of understanding of religious teachings, while others see it as a personal choice influenced by individual and environmental factors. The role of religious figures in preventing corruption includes moral education, anti-corruption outreach, and education on the values of honesty in schools. The conclusion of this research shows that the views and roles of religious figures are greatly influenced by their social background, personal experiences and position in society. This research provides insight into the perceptions and roles of Islamic religious leaders in preventing corruption in Muslim-majority areas. It is recommended that further research involve more religious figures for a more comprehensive understanding.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The phenomenon of religious communication through online media, such as YouTube, has introduced new dimensions to religiosity, categorized as religion online and online religion. Religion online uses digital platforms as tools for disseminating religious messages and storing information, such as digital manuscripts and sermons, accessible anytime. In contrast, online religion creates a space for active religious communication and practices, especially prominent during the COVID-19 pandemic when religious activities shifted online. This study focuses on the online religion aspect by examining the spiritual experiences expressed by Sundanese cultural figure Kang Yat R through the Si Rawing storytelling series on YouTube. Employing a qualitative case study approach, data was collected through in-depth interviews with Kang Yat R and analysis of YouTube content. The results reveal that Si Rawing reflects Kang Yat R’s religious experiences in three dimensions: thought (doctrine), action (ritual), and community (group), in alignment with Joachim Wach's framework. This study underscores the role of online platforms in preserving and transmitting religious and cultural heritage to younger generations.

Abstract

This study explores the status and role of women within Sikh doctrine, aiming to contribute to and enrich academic discussions on the intersection of religious doctrine and gender studies. Using a qualitative approach that focuses on religion and gender, the research employs a library-based methodology, analyzing various sources and relevant prior studies. The findings demonstrate that women in Sikhism are granted equal status to men, rooted in the doctrine that emphasizes an intimate relationship between humans and the divine, where gender holds no significance in the connection to God. Moreover, the study delves into human relationships as shaped by behaviors, attitudes, and societal norms during the Sikh Gurus' era, illustrating the ideal dynamics between men and women. Despite Sikh teachings of equality, women in the Sikh community still face challenges in accessing leadership roles, as cultural and historical narratives often prioritize male dominance. The contributions of Sikh women have been historically marginalized, leaving subsequent generations with limited role models. This research offers both theoretical insights into Sikhism and gender and practical implications for encouraging the Sikh community, particularly men, to uphold Guru Nanak’s vision of gender equality.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to explore the dynamics of Islamic-Jewish dialogue and the conflict resolution efforts undertaken between these two religions. This study employs a qualitative approach, utilizing a literature review method to collect and analyze data from various sources. The findings reveal several key points: first, the conflict between Islam and Judaism is often identified with the Israel-Palestine conflict, which represents a significant international issue. Second, Islamic-Jewish dialogue remains limited, with notable efforts emerging only in recent years, such as those led by Imam Shamsi Ali (Islam) and Rabbi Marc (Judaism) in the United States. These dialogues aim to foster mutual understanding by emphasizing that all religions fundamentally strive for human salvation, while acts of violence in the name of religion stem from individual actions rather than representing religious institutions. This study contributes to the discourse on interfaith dialogue by highlighting the potential of Islamic-Jewish dialogue as a tool for conflict resolution and promoting peace.

Abstract

The phenomenon of religious communication through online media, such as YouTube, has introduced a new mode of religiosity. This mode can be categorized into two types: religion online and online religion. Religion online involves using online media as a tool for disseminating religious messages and storing religious information, such as digital manuscripts and sermons, accessible anytime. Online religion, however, transcends this by making online media a space for religious communication and activities, as seen during the COVID-19 pandemic when religious practices moved online. This study focuses on the online religion aspect, examining the spiritual experiences expressed by Sundanese cultural figure Kang Yat R through the Si Rawing story series on YouTube. Using a qualitative case study approach, data was collected through in-depth interviews with Kang Yat R and analysis of YouTube content. The findings reveal that Si Rawing reflects Kang Yat R’s religious experiences in three forms: thought (doctrine), action (ritual), and community (group), aligning with Joachim Wach's perspective. This research highlights the importance of online platforms in preserving and conveying religious and cultural heritage to younger generations.

Abstract

Religious education plays an important role in shaping moral values that are relevant to the challenges of the increasingly complex modern world. This study aims to compare the thoughts of Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel, Aminah Wadud, and Reinhold Niebuhr regarding religious education, as well as explore their different perspectives that reflect the richness of their respective theological traditions. Using a qualitative approach and literature study method, this study analyzes the main works of the three figures, including Heschel's Man Is Not Alone, Wadud's Qur'an and Woman, and Niebuhr's The Nature and Destiny of Man, as well as various other relevant sources. The results of the study show that although there are similar views on the importance of religious education that prioritizes morality and social responsibility, these three thinkers have different approaches. Heschel emphasized social morality as an integral part of religious education, Wadud advocated women's empowerment and gender equality, while Niebuhr taught the importance of compromise and adaptation to the complexities of the social world. This research contributes to the development of religious education that is more inclusive and relevant to the social context, as well as enriching interfaith dialogue in a diverse global society.
