Abstract

Ecology is a branch of biology that studies the relationship between living things and their habitats. Basically, living things depend on other living things or their habitats, so there is a reciprocal relationship between living things and other living things or their habitat. This relationship between organisms or their habitats is an interaction that can be in the form of predation, parasitism, commensalism, and mutualism. This study collected data through direct observation in the field. Mahogany is a semi-tolerant tree that is easy to grow and adapts well to various types of land, including beaches, teak forest edges, and even roadsides. Mahogany plants are often planted on the roadside as protective trees (Prasetyono, 2012). Mahogany has many advantages, because its wood, bark, sap and leaves are all available, and the interaction of biotic and abiotic factors with organisms greatly affects the growth of organisms. The relationship resulting from factors that occur in sonokeling trees, ketapang trees, mango trees and durian trees is an interaction between symbiotic symbiosis and parasitic symbiosis. Symbiosis Symbiosis is a relationship between two organisms where one benefits and the other is not harmed or benefited, that is, the interaction between durian trees and ferns and dragon scales. Parasite symbiosis is a relationship of two organisms in which one benefits and the other is harmed, that is, the interaction between mango trees and benalu.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the distribution and condition of historical heritage, which symbolizes the identity of Malay culture in the Medan Maimun area. This study uses a case study approach for its qualitative method. Information is obtained through direct observation at the location, intensive interviews with local residents and site managers, and review of historical archive documents. The findings show that although the Maimun Palace, the Grand Mosque, and Sri Deli Park have a high level of culture, there are elements of modernization, lack of structural problems, and inadequate maintenance, which cause great difficulties in preserving these heritages. Therefore, there is a need for the government, community, and academics to work together in determining the best conservation strategy.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of ecotourism in mangrove conservation and its appeal to tourists at Mangrove Beach Paluh Getah, Deli Serdang Regency. A qualitative approach was used, with data collected through direct observation and interviews with local communities and visitors. The findings indicate that ecotourism plays a significant role in rehabilitating mangrove ecosystems by engaging both residents and tourists in regular mangrove planting activities. Moreover, ecotourism positively impacts local livelihoods by promoting sustainable businesses such as tour guiding services and mangrove-based products. The natural beauty, biodiversity, and educational tourism programs serve as key attractions for visitors. Local communities actively manage the area through tourism awareness groups and cooperatives, enhancing both social and economic sustainability. However, challenges remain, including limited facilities and insufficient promotion. Therefore, sustainable development strategies involving collaboration between communities, the government, and the private sector are essential. Ecotourism at Paluh Getah Mangrove Beach holds great potential as a model for coastal area management that integrates conservation and community empowerment.

Abstract

This study examines the contribution of tourism village development in the Singkarak Lake area to increasing local community income and welfare. The background of this study is based on the importance of local potential-based development in supporting the village economy and empowering communities in a sustainable manner. Tourism villages are not only nature and culture-based destinations, but also a place for community economic empowerment through active participation in the tourism sector. The method used is a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews, direct observation, and literature studies. The research location is focused on Nagari Sumpur, Tanah Datar Regency, West Sumatra. The results of the study show that the development of tourism villages has had a significant economic impact through the opening of new business opportunities, such as managing homestays, traditional food stalls, local transportation services, and selling regional souvenirs. Community involvement is very high and participatory, reflecting the principle of community-based tourism. In addition to providing additional income for vulnerable groups such as housewives, tourism activities also encourage the growth of supporting sectors such as agriculture, fisheries, and local logistics. However, the study also found various obstacles, especially the lack of formal training, the absence of institutional support, the absence of cooperatives or BUMDes that regulate economic activities collectively, and the unequal distribution of benefits among villagers. This gap shows the need for intervention from the government and external partners in the form of training, empowerment, business assistance, and strengthening inclusive governance. Community optimism towards the long-term prospects of tourism villages is still high, especially with the increasing involvement of the younger generation in digital promotion and management of tourism businesses.
