Abstract

Abstract: Today's Islamic historiography in Bolaang Mongondow, North Sulawesi, has not been thoroughly investigated in order to show the existence of Islamic history in Bolaang Mongondow. The lack of written sources in developing Islamic historiography is one of the challenges recognized by Islamic historiography. The majority of Islamic historiography in Bolaang Mongondow continues to employ colonial material as a primary basis to construct how Islamic history is told. Nevertheless, the legitimacy of colonial data/historiography must still be questioned. Furthermore, the reconstruction of Islamic Historiography in Bolaang Mongondow can be described as unmoved, with the historical narrative limited to discussions based solely on written sources. Oral history is offered as an alternative to exploring Islamic history through interviews. As a consequence, Islamic historiography, particularly in the Bolaang Mongondow region, will present an innovative interpretation of Indonesian-centric Islamic historiography by emphasizing the roles of ordinary citizens rather than notable figures in its historical story. Key Words : Historical Approach, Oral Method, Decolonization Abstrak: Historiografi Islam di Bolaang Mongondow Sulawesi Utara saat ini masih belum massive digali untuk menampilkan jejak Sejarah Islam di Bolaang Mongondow.

Abstract

Abstract

The teachings of Islam and the Indonesian constitution clearly prohibit interfaith marriage. However, some Muslim communities in North Sulawesi as a minority group have entered into interfaith marriages. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the phenomenon of interreligious marriage in North Sulawesi and the achievement of minority fiqh objectives in interfaith families. This research is a field research that uses qualitative methods with a phenomenological approach. Data collection was conducted through interviews with informants consisting of 5 interfaith marriage actors, 1 village official, and 1 religious leader. The results showed that the main motivation for interfaith couples to marry is mutual love. They also tend to get support from their respective extended families so that the marriage runs relatively smoothly and safely. The objectives of minority fiqh are achieved in interfaith marriages in the multicultural society of North Sulawesi. Minority fiqh can be an approach in interfaith marriages in multicultural societies where Muslims are a minority, without losing their Islamic essence, it is based on the fiqh rule that changes in law can occur due to changes in times and places. Minority jurisprudence can be an alternative basis for the sustainability of interfaith families in North Sulawesi that are able to maintain their Islamic identity while still respecting their partner's beliefs.

Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to analyze the process of cultural assimilation occurring between Islamic teachings and the local belief system of Masade in the Sangihe archipelago. Utilizing a qualitative approach, the research explores how the interaction between these two religious traditions results in changes in the practices and cultural identity of the local community. The findings indicate that although the adherents of Masade are divided into three groups (Hadun, Hamadun, and Mangkung) with differing practices, they maintain harmonious relationships and mutual respect, creating a new culture that emerges from the integration of elements from both belief systems. This research highlights the importance of tolerance and adaptation in the assimilation process, as well as its impact on social diversity within the community, contributing to the understanding of the dynamics of intercultural interactions..Key Words: Intercultural Interaction, Identity Formation, Social DiversityAbstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis proses asimilasi budaya yang terjadi antara ajaran Islam dan kepercayaan lokal Masade di kepulauan Sangihe. Abstract

This article examines the Reception of Islamic legal rituals among indigenous Indonesian communities through a law-centered comparative design. This study understands reception as the selection, reinterpretation, and substantive integration of Islamic ritual norms into local practice. The framework juxtaposes doctrinal analysis of fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) categories, namely ibādāt taʿabbudī/tawqīfī (worship rituals strictly bound to canonical pillars and conditions) and muʿāmalāt/ahwāl al-shakhṣiyyah (social transactions and personal status), with ethnographic and historical materials. The analysis assesses four equivalent domains: core obligations of worship, calendrical ordering, sacred space and authority, and life-cycle rites. Findings indicate that the Wetu Telu (Sasak "three times" tradition) community in Lombok exhibits primarily substantive Reception, in which ritual form and legal intent converge and are institutionally embedded. By contrast, the Masade (Sangihe "Old Islam" community) exhibits a more selective and symbolic reception, maintaining Islamic identifiers while limiting ritual obligations and temporal coordination within a localized sacred order. These patterns clarify how ʿurf (customary practice) can sustain or reframe Fiqh in indigenous settings without reducing analysis to a simple binary of "orthodox" versus "syncretic." The article contributes a scalable matrix for assessing ritual reception across communities and highlights implications for legal pluralism and the living law of Islam in Indonesia.

Abstract

Transformative Islamic education focuses on teaching religious values and shaping critical awareness and social responsibility, including in the political context. This study analyzes transformative Islamic education in political education carried out by Islamic religious figures during the 2024 General Election in North Sulawesi. The research uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. The sample selection employs purposive sampling, involving 23 informants of Islamic religious figures and Muslim communities from 12 districts/cities in North Sulawesi. Data is collected through in-depth interviews, direct observation, and document studies. The data are analyzed thematically, which includes stages of organizing data, reading the entire data set, coding, identifying key themes, and interpreting the data within the framework of transformative Islamic education theory in the political context. Triangulation is used to ensure the validity of the data. The study’s results indicate that transformative Islamic political education by religious figures successfully increased active and responsible political participation and shaped critical political awareness among the Muslim community in North Sulawesi. In addition, the study also found that the Muslim community in North Sulawesi is increasingly aware of the boundaries between religion as a moral guide in politics and religion as a political tool that can be exploited for specific interests. This study has some limitations, such as being limited to the North Sulawesi region, only studying Islamic religious figures, and focusing on the 2024 General Election, which does not yet represent political education outside the election context. Therefore, further research is recommended to expand the regional scope, conduct interfaith studies, and analyze political education by religious figures in a broader socio-political context.

Abstract

Tuanku Imam Bonjol is one of Indonesia’s national heroes who played a pivotal role in resisting colonialism in Sumatra. This resistance eventually led to his exile, along with his followers, to North Sulawesi, where he spent the remainder of his life. The Tomb of Tuanku Imam Bonjol, located in Lotta Village, Minahasa, is a significant symbol of the nation’s struggle and has been designated a Cultural Heritage Structure. However, excessive utilization without adherence to preservation principles has created several problems, including alterations to the tombstone and grave marker that have diminished the site’s authenticity and integrity. In fact, under Law Number 11 of 2010 on Cultural Heritage, any use must ensure sustainability. This research aims to formulate strategies for the preservation and utilization of the Tomb of Tuanku Imam Bonjol to ensure its sustainable protection while providing benefits for the community. The methods employed include field observations, interviews, and literature studies with a cultural heritage management approach. The findings indicate that preservation and utilization strategies should be directed toward four main aspects: (1) physical conservation and regular maintenance, (2) strengthening governance through collaboration between the government and the community, (3) public education to enhance preservation awareness, and (4) regulated utilization in line with educational, religious, and cultural functions. This study emphasizes that with appropriate and well-directed utilization, the preservation of the tomb can be maximized while generating both social and religious benefits.
