Abstract

In a research context, a research title is usually translated into English to provide appropriate understanding for all readers. However, grammar mistakes in translating it often occur. This research focuses on the grammar mistakes found in research titles (English version) of Engineering students at one of the universities in West Java. This research focuses on 105 Engineering students’ research titles data and answers questions of what are the grammar mistakes found, and what are the students’ perceptions regarding the process of translating their titles. By analyzing the titles data, this research found that, out of 105 titles, there are 93 titles with grammar mistakes. These consist of excessive use of definite articles in 69 titles, improper use of prepositions in 22 titles, and improper phrases in 33 titles. Then, the Engineering students’ perceptions about their titles’ translating process were gained from interviews to 5 of them. They were worried about translating it themselves due to their limited understanding of English which made them rely more on translation machines such as Google Translate and ChatGPT without the process of reviewing the translation results’ meaning. The process of reviewing and increasing motivation that builds enthusiasm for learning grammar are needed.

Abstract

As online platforms become more widely accessible, English learners have greater opportunities to practice speaking with foreign interlocutors, though many remain hesitant due to a lack of confidence in their speaking abilities. This study examines the perceptions of 107 first-semester English learners at a private university who were assigned to use SCMC platforms like Free4Talk, InterPals, and HelloTalk to engage in English conversations with foreign interlocutors. The aim was to understand how these platforms supported speaking practice and identify any challenges faced. Data were collected through a questionnaire that included Likert-scale items and open-ended questions. The results revealed that 78% of students had positive perceptions, indicating that the platforms facilitated their English-speaking practice through real-time communication. However, they also reported technical issues, such as poor internet connectivity, and challenges with engagement, including difficulty finding consistent conversation partners. The study recommends further research into long-term language learner experiences and an exploration of platform features that could enhance English-speaking practice.

Abstract

This research aims to identify and overcome bottlenecks in production process at PT. XYZ Indonesia, especially in HA Export Department on SMC Big Volume Lane. Bottlenecks were detected in Visual Acc and Housing processes, which resulted in decreased efficiency and productivity. The method used in this study is line balancing with the Pro Model simulation approach, which allows analysis of improvement scenarios without disrupting ongoing operations. Data collected includes process time and machine capacity. Initial simulation results showed significant idle time 15,4%, with accumulation at Raw Material workstation (12.30%), Housing workstation (1.20%), and Visual Acc (1.90%). After the improvements were made, including increasing the Raw Material capacity to 20 pcs, the Housing process to 3 pcs, and Visual Acc to 3 pcs, the bottleneck was successfully eliminated from 15.4% became 0% and the production flow became more stable. This research provides practical solutions to improve efficiency and reduce cycle time, and can be a reference for companies in implementing line balancing and simulation methods to improve productivity in the manufacturing industry.

Abstract

English proficiency opens access to careers in global industries. Meanwhile, the decline in moral and ethical values among students hinders the shaping of professionalism. These issues demand readiness from vocational Industrial Engineering students to face them. Hence, this service-learning program integrated kindness values such as empathy, cooperation, and respect into an English simulation. It was conducted at SMK Teknik Industri, involving 20 students in a role-play set in an industrial engineering context, preceded by a motivational session and a sentence-making game. All activities were recorded to observe the students’ engagement, which was confirmed through an interview session with 6 representatives. The results indicated a gradual increase in engagement. In the motivational session, they listened passively due to limited English comprehension. During the game, participation began to emerge despite their fear and hesitation. In the role-play session, they demonstrated increased engagement and positive emotional responses through pronunciation and expression practice. This was supported by their perceptions, as they became motivated and aware of the importance of English and ethics. Therefore, this program holds potential for further development to improve both English proficiency and character building.

Abstract

This study focuses on initiatives to enhance production quantity at PT ABC. The study applied a simulation-based approach using ProModel software to test various improvement scenarios without interfering with actual production activities. The data collected includes processing time at each workstation and machine capacity, which were used to build an accurate simulation model. The simulation results showed a significant increase in productivity from 35 to 78 units per hour after implementing the second improvement alternative involving additional manpower. This study offers practical and data-driven solutions to enhance production efficiency, reduce cycle time, and eliminate bottlenecks. The findings serve as a valuable reference for companies aiming to implement production line optimization strategies and simulation modeling to support continuous improvement in manufacturing performance.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This article analyzes the implementation of kindness oriented instructional approaches in English Language Teaching (ELT). English learning generally still emphasizes mastery of linguistic competencies, such as grammar, vocabulary, and academic achievement, while important aspects of character development, empathy, and social skills tend to receive less attention. This study uses a qualitative literature review method by carefully examining journal articles and other academic sources relevant to kindness-based pedagogy in the context of ELT and education. The literature review is supplemented with academic reflections involving four lecturers from different scholarly backgrounds, namely two lecturers in English pedagogy and two lecturers with expertise in moral education and positive values. The literature analysis results show that kindness-oriented instructional approaches, such as Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Loving Pedagogy, and Altruistic Teaching, significantly contribute to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment. These approaches are related to improving language competence, emotional well-being, classroom interaction, as well as students’ interpersonal communication skills and collaborative learning abilities. The study concludes that the integration of kindness-oriented pedagogical approaches in ELT strongly supports academic achievement as well as holistic student development. The contribution of this article is providing a comprehensive conceptual review of kindness-based ELT that can serve as an alternative in effectively integrating character education into language learning.
