Abstract

The phenomenon of phubbing, which is increasingly widespread, especially among students, is caused by excessive use of social media on smartphones. However, serious handling is needed to reduce such addictive behavior. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the level of classical guidance with live modeling techniques related to communication disorders and smartphone obsession of students in State Senior High School 1 Kencong Jember Indonesia. Using a quantitative approach and field research type with one group pretest-posttest design experiment method, the sample was determined purposively with 35 students out of 1116 populations. The instrument used in this research is a phubbing scale which has been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis used paired sample t-test. The research results showed that there were differences in students' phubbing levels before and after being given classical guidance treatment using live modeling techniques. Aspects of phubbing which include communication disturbance and smartphone dependency, both decreased significantly after being given treatment in the form of classical guidance on live modeling techniques. Counselors can use live modeling as an alternative guidance technique to reduce phubbing.

Abstract

Teacher education issues are the fundamental concerns underlying critical pedagogy studies in Indonesia. Numerous issues have emerged, becoming topics of public discourse. These issues have arisen because teachers’ competencies are not being realized even after they have undergone teacher education. Among the issues are a teacher’s motivation to teach, the ability of teachers to enhance the quality of education through the improvisation of the hidden curriculum, and the demand for critical thinking among students. This study was conducted using qualitative methods with a literature review approach, gathering data on teacher education issues through a theoretical analysis of diverse literature related to the observed phenomena. The results indicate that most of the emerging educational issues are indeed rooted in the degradation of teacher education, which ultimately leads to a decline in the quality of education. Addressing this requires improving teacher education—from enhancing teachers’ motivation to teaching to developing the competencies that can be internalized through the teaching profession.

Abstract

Abstract

This study explores the integration of Prophetic counseling methods into contemporary school-based mental health programs, with a particular focus on Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) in Indonesia. Amid increasing concerns over student mental health, there is a growing need for culturally and spiritually responsive counseling approaches. Prophetic counseling, derived from the teachings and practices of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), emphasizes empathy, active listening, moral guidance, and emotional regulation within a spiritual framework. This qualitative case study employed interviews, observations, and document analysis to examine how Islamic boarding schools incorporate these Prophetic principles into their student support systems. Findings indicate that combining modern psychological strategies with Prophetic values fosters a holistic and contextually appropriate mental health model, enhancing students' emotional well-being, resilience, and moral development. The study concludes that the synergy between Islamic ethical traditions and modern mental health practices can enrich school counseling frameworks and offers a model that can be adapted in other faith-based educational settings.
