In order to proffer solution to this problem in a subjective manner, this study aimed at viewing self-esteem as a predictor of self-harm behaviour among undergraduates in Kwara State. Descriptive survey of correlational type was adopted for this research. Multistage random sampling technique was used to select 382 undergraduates from public and private universities in Kwara State. Two research instruments were used for data collection. They are Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) and Non-Suicidal Self-Injury Assessment Tool (NSSI-AT). Research questions were raised; main and operational hypotheses were formulated to guide this study. Descriptive statistics of frequency counts mean and percentages were used to answer the research questions while inferential statistics of Pearson Product Moment Correlation was used to test the generated research hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. Results showed that there was significant relationship between self-esteem and self-harm behaviour among undergraduates in Kwara State (calculated r-value of 0. 657 critical value of .000).there was relative contributions of the dependent variables on self halm behaviour. Abstract

The study utilized a correlation research design and employed the Simple Random Sampling Technique to select 100 counselors. Data were gathered using scales developed by Cameron, Berling, and Kataria, which respectively measured Communication Skills (CSS), Time Management Skills (TMS), and Effective Service Delivery Skills (ESDS). Statistical analyses included Pearson Product-Moment Correlation (PPMC) and Multiple Regression, with a significance level set at 0.05. Results indicated a significant positive correlation between communication skills and effective service delivery (r = 0.64, df = 198, p 0.05), as well as between time management and effective service delivery (r = 0.64, df = 198, p 0.05). Furthermore, there was a significant combined contribution of communication skills and time management to effective service delivery (Adjusted R^2 = 0.59, df = 2/97, F = 71.13, p 0.05). Communication skills (β = 0.47) and time management (β = 0.46) both made significant relative contributions to effective service delivery among counselors.

Abstract

This study explored demographic variables influencing bullying behaviours among secondary school students in Ilorin metropolis. A descriptive survey design targeted 42,288 public and private secondary school students across Ilorin Metropolis. A total of 150 respondents were selected to participate in the study. Data was collected using the Olweus Bully/Victim Questionnaire Revised version, which consists of 14 items on a 5-point Likert scale with a reliability coefficient of 0.781. Three null hypotheses were formulated and tested using the t-test statistical tool and analysis of variance (ANOVA) on SPSS. The findings related to the formulated hypotheses examined the significance of gender, age and class differences on bullying behaviour among in-school adolescents in Ilorin metropolis. The result of the findings revealed that there was no significant difference in the bullying conduct of in-school adolescents in terms of age. Also, no significant difference was found based on gender and class level. The study concluded that bullying conduct among in-school adolescents did not show a significant difference based on demographic variables. Therefore, teachers and school staff should receive regular training on identifying and addressing bullying behaviour in students of all ages. This training can include strategies for recognizing forms of bullying, such as verbal and emotional abuse, and techniques for fostering inclusive classroom environments where all students feel safe and supported.

Abstract

Marital bonding is a crucial foundation for stable and satisfying marriages, yet many Nigerian couples face challenges such as emotional distance, communication breakdowns, financial strain, and extended family interference. These pressures often erode intimacy and increase vulnerability to marital dissatisfaction, infidelity, or divorce. Against this backdrop, Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT) has emerged globally as one of the most empirically validated interventions for strengthening emotional intimacy and repairing attachment injuries. However, its application within non-Western, collectivist societies such as Nigeria remains underexplored. The purpose of this study is to examine the relevance of EFT as a counselling strategy for enhancing marital bonding among Nigerian couples, with a particular focus on married teachers in Kwara State who navigate dual career responsibilities alongside family obligations. This paper employed a conceptual and analytical method, synthesising international and Nigerian literature on EFT, marital bonding, and the socio-cultural dynamics of marriage. The analysis highlighted how EFT principles can be adapted to Nigerian realities shaped by extended kinship systems, evolving gender roles, and religious expectations. The main findings indicate that EFT fosters emotional intimacy, trust, and empathy, making it a culturally adaptable tool for addressing marital disconnection. Nigerian studies affirm that EFT improves emotional regulation, reduces conflict linked to external family pressures, and strengthens communication between partners. The study concludes that EFT not only has universal applicability but also offers unique value when localised to Nigerian cultural contexts. Its contribution lies in demonstrating that counselling models developed in Western settings can be meaningfully adapted to collectivist societies, thereby promoting marital resilience, family stability, and community well-being.

Teachers are one of the most valuable human resources in a school system. The strengths and quality of any educational system are heavily reliant on the efforts of its teachers. It is commonly known that teaching is one of the most stressful jobs in the world. Teachers tend to view aspects of their profession that are hazardous to their health. The school system in Kwara State has lately experienced significant modifications. Numerous studies have demonstrated that teachers’ physical and mental health might suffer as a result of excessive stress. It has been claimed that teachers who have a lower quality of life live shorter lives. School teachers must have a high quality of life to train good students. Any fault or flaw in teachers' quality of life might have an impact on their job performance. As a result, the purpose of this study is to look at teachers' quality of life in Kwara State secondary schools, as well as the consequences of counselling. As a result, the report proposed instructors be provided additional assistance in improving their quality of life and well-being.

Abstract

Smartphone addiction has become an increasingly pressing issue among university students globally, with undergraduates in Oyo State, Nigeria, exhibiting similar patterns of excessive smartphone use. The proliferation of mobile technologies and social media platforms has contributed to maladaptive behaviours that negatively impact students’ academic performance, mental health, and social relationships. This paper investigates the growing concern of smartphone addiction among undergraduate populations in Oyo State and emphasises the urgent need for effective psychological interventions. The primary aim of this paper is to explore and recommend counselling therapeutic approaches that can help mitigate smartphone addiction and promote healthier technology usage among students. Employing a narrative literature review method, this research synthesises findings from empirical studies, theoretical frameworks, and global counselling practices to comprehensively understand the issue. Findings from the literature reveal that multiple factors, including psychological stress, low self-esteem, peer influence, and the constant availability of mobile applications, influence smartphone addiction. The review identifies counselling strategies such as Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Mindfulness-Based Interventions, and Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT) as practical therapeutic approaches. The paper concluded that the importance of integrating evidence-based counselling methods into institutional support systems lies in addressing smartphone addiction. The paper contributes to the growing discourse on digital wellness. It offers a framework for educators, counsellors, and policymakers seeking to promote mental health and academic success among undergraduates in Nigeria.
