Abstract

This study examined the interplay between gender and school location in shaping study habits among secondary school students in Lagos State, with a focus on Alimosho Local Government Area. A sample of 800 senior secondary students was evaluated, with 80 purposively selected from three schools. Utilizing the Students’ Study Habits Inventory validated by Akinnade (2017), the research identified significant gender differences in study habits, with male students demonstrating more favorable habits than their female counterparts. This disparity underscores the influence of socio-cultural and educational factors on study behaviors. Although an association between school location and study habits was observed, it did not reach statistical significance (p 0.05). To address these findings, the study proposed targeted interventions, such as the Students’ Interactive Programme, designed to support female students during post-school hours. These initiatives aim to bridge the gender gap and promote equitable study habits. The study emphasizes the importance of considering gender and school location when designing policies and programs to foster effective study habits. By implementing targeted strategies, educational stakeholders can create a supportive learning environment that ensures academic success for all students, irrespective of gender or geographic context.

Abstract

Academic procrastination is a global problem that mar the development of individuals, especially in the area of education. This study investigates the relationship between demographic factors and academic procrastination among postgraduate students. Quantitative research approach, descriptive design of the survey type was considered for this study. Data were collected from 325 postgraduate students across various faculties and postgraduate programs. Simple percentage count and t-test was used to analyze the data. The majority of respondents were male, aged between 25 and 40 years, and enrolled in Master's programs. Three hypotheses were formulated and tested using a t-test statistical method at a significance level of 0.05. Hypothesis one, which examined the influence of gender on academic procrastination, found no significant difference between male and female students. Similarly, hypothesis two, exploring the impact of age on academic procrastination, revealed no significant difference between younger (25-40 years) and older (41 years and above) students. However, hypothesis three, which investigated the relationship between employment status and academic procrastination, showed a significant difference between employed and unemployed students, with employed students exhibiting lower levels of procrastination. These findings suggest that while gender and age may not significantly influence academic procrastination among postgraduate students, employment status does play a significant role.

Abstract

The study utilized a correlation research design and employed the Simple Random Sampling Technique to select 100 counselors. Data were gathered using scales developed by Cameron, Berling, and Kataria, which respectively measured Communication Skills (CSS), Time Management Skills (TMS), and Effective Service Delivery Skills (ESDS). Statistical analyses included Pearson Product-Moment Correlation (PPMC) and Multiple Regression, with a significance level set at 0.05. Results indicated a significant positive correlation between communication skills and effective service delivery (r = 0.64, df = 198, p 0.05), as well as between time management and effective service delivery (r = 0.64, df = 198, p 0.05). Furthermore, there was a significant combined contribution of communication skills and time management to effective service delivery (Adjusted R^2 = 0.59, df = 2/97, F = 71.13, p 0.05). Communication skills (β = 0.47) and time management (β = 0.46) both made significant relative contributions to effective service delivery among counselors.

Abstract

Ethical development in children is pivotal for shaping societies grounded in integrity, empathy, and social responsibility. In the Nigerian context, this development is shaped by the dynamic interplay of family structures, educational systems, and cultural values. This literature review critically examines existing research on how these factors collectively influence moral growth among Nigerian children. Emphasis is placed on the family as the foundational unit of moral transmission, highlighting the impact of parenting styles, religious practices, and communal values. The review also explores the role of the educational system in promoting ethical reasoning through formal curricula, character education, and community service while acknowledging systemic challenges such as teacher capacity, curriculum gaps, and institutional corruption. Cultural influences, including traditional African ethics, religious teachings, and the pressures of globalization and digital media, are analyzed to understand their complex effects on children's moral orientation. Drawing on peer-reviewed journal articles, policy documents, and empirical studies, the review adopts an integrative approach to synthesizing both indigenous and global perspectives. However, it recognizes limitations in the existing literature, including a scarcity of Nigeria-specific empirical studies, uneven methodological rigor, and the underrepresentation of indigenous moral frameworks. By addressing these gaps, this review aims to provide both theoretical insight and practical recommendations. It advocates a multidimensional strategy that reinforces family engagement, integrates culturally relevant moral education, and mobilizes religious and societal institutions. Ultimately, this literature review offers a contextual blueprint for nurturing a morally resilient generation equipped to navigate the ethical complexities of contemporary Nigerian society
