Abstract

Abstract

Ignaz Goldziher's views on hadith have elicited both support and criticism from Muslim scholars. Fuat Sezgin, a prominent Islamic scholar, disputed Goldziher's claim that hadiths narrated by classical scholars were inauthentic due to their reliance on sanad rather than matan criticism. Sezgin contends that the oral tradition of hadith transmission and his identification of some false hadiths in Sahih Bukhari weaken Goldziher's argument. This paper examines the differing perspectives of Ignaz Goldziher and Fuat Sezgin on hadith. Utilizing a literature research approach, it employs a descriptive-analytical method to elucidate the ideas of these two scholars. The research concludes that Goldziher's critique arose from a fundamental misunderstanding, as the narration method he criticized differed from that of classical scholars. Furthermore, the assertion that hadith was not documented in writing until later stages is refuted, as the Companions had recorded it in the Shahifah during the Prophet's time. Goldziher's identification of false hadiths in Bukhari is attributed to his focus on matan, leading him to consider them as fabrications by Bukhari.

Abstract

This study explores the theme of zakat in the hadith of allegiance (bai‘ah) narrated by Jarir bin Abdullah r.a., aiming to understand its historical context, theological and social meanings, as well as the relevance of its teachings in contemporary Muslim society. Employing a qualitative approach through library research, this study applies thematic analysis of the hadith, focusing on asbāb al-wurūd (circumstantial context), linguistic interpretation, and socio-religious meanings. The findings reveal that zakat in Jarir’s pledge was not merely an individual obligation but also a form of social commitment that reflects the integration of devotional acts and social responsibility in Islam. In today’s context, this hadith offers a conceptual foundation for strengthening the role of zakat in addressing poverty, social inequality, and distributive justice crises. Therefore, zakat should be viewed not only as a religious ritual but also as a transformative instrument for building a just, prosperous, and inclusive society. This study emphasizes the importance of revitalizing the spirit of this hadith in modern zakat practices based on sharia principles and professional management.

Abstract

Local traditions within Muslim communities reflect the internalization of Islamic values in social life. This study examines the Mbolo Weki tradition in Bolo District, Bima Regency, as well as the understanding of prophetic traditions (ḥadīth) related to the values embodied in this practice. Using a qualitative approach with ḥadīth, socio-cultural, and historical perspectives, data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and studying classical Islamic texts. Informants included religious leaders, traditional elders, village officials, and community members. The findings indicate that Mbolo Weki, a tradition of cooperation during wedding celebrations, aligns with Islamic values such as consultation (shūrā) and mutual assistance. Although its practice has become more simplified and collective participation has declined, core values like solidarity and kinship remain preserved. This tradition represents a form of local wisdom that reflects the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and strengthens social cohesion within the Muslim community of Bima.

Abstract

This study aims to explore and map the strategies employed by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in the collection of zakat, based on a thematic analysis of Hadiths (mawḍūʿī), with the hope of identifying normative and practical values applicable to contemporary zakat systems. Employing a qualitative method and a thematic Hadith approach, the findings reveal that the Prophet’s strategies emphasized the moral integrity of zakat officers, strict regulation, legal enforcement, and efficient management. Zakat officers were not only tasked with administrative duties but also bore significant moral responsibilities to uphold trust and public confidence. The implications of these findings highlight the urgency of strengthening the integrity of zakat personnel, the necessity of rigorous oversight and transparency in management, the enforcement of clear regulations, and the adoption of modern managerial and technological systems to enhance the efficiency of zakat collection and distribution. These aspects form a crucial foundation for contemporary zakat institutions to ensure sustainability and maintain public trust. The recommendations proposed include ethical and social responsibility training for zakat officers, the development of transparent auditing and supervisory systems, the implementation of firm regulations with clearly defined sanctions, the optimization of digital technologies for zakat management, and ongoing public education on the role of zakat in promoting social justice and alleviating poverty.
