Abstract

Abuse of Power harms the actions and effects of organizations, especially if the abuse occurs in educational institutions, the damage will be greater. In developing countries like Afghanistan, the possibility of abuse of power in private universities is high. This article focuses on the effects of power abuse in private universities in Nangarhar Afghanistan. The purpose of this study is to reveal examples of power abuse in private universities in the Nangarhar province of Afghanistan and to investigate its impact on the educational process. Novelty: In previous studies, only one type of abuse of power was mentioned in private universities in Nangarhar, while this study mentioned two types of abuse of power in private universities in Nangarhar1) abuse of power by lecturers 2) abuse of power by senior management staff. Also, another improvement of this research to the previous research is that the researcher tried to interview the affected students and university staff about the topic and clarify the topic based on these interviews. For this research, the authors use a qualitative approach with case-study methods. This study presents cases of power abuse in private higher education institutions in Nangarhar, Afghanistan. The researcher conducted interviews with students, administrative staff, and lecturers of private universities in eastern Afghanistan. As a result, the study found that there are two types of power abuse in private universities in Nangarhar, abuse of power by lecturers and abuse of power by senior management staff.

Abstract

Children are susceptible to disease due to unhealthy lifestyle habits. Hence, children need correct health information for healthy living behavior. The Reading Community (RC), as a repository and manager of knowledge, has health information services for children. Three Reading Communities (RCs) in Sumedang Regency provide health-themed books and provide health-themed literacy activities. This study aimed to determine health information literacy in children at Reading Communities in Sumedang Regency. This study used a qualitative descriptive method and was conducted at three (3) Reading Communities in Sumedang Regency, including Lingkaran Cahaya RC, Bina Kreasi Muda RC, and Pabukon Ngadongeng RC. Study results showed that children from RCs already knew the need for health information; however, they did not know the correct process for implementing it. The three RCs had various health readings, such as books, comics, and magazines. In addition, they had different strategies for planning health information for children, and they held activities according to the competencies or interests of the users. Three RCs collected health information from reading and activity-based collaboration had reading comprehension activities as an evaluation process in health information literacy and conducted reviews of activities or discussions from reading results in the form of read-aloud and think-aloud. Two RCs stored information in master books and catalogs and promoted health information activities using social media. Despite limitations in providing access to health information, the three Reading Communities have innovations in health information practices in the form of literacy activities.

Abstract

Background: Health promotion is an important part of the health services strategy in hospitals around the world, including in Indonesia. Hospitals can contribute to improving Indonesians’ health by complying with regulations and following government plans. Al Islam Hospital is a type B hospital in Bandung that has adopted diverse health promotion and communication programs. RS Al Islam Bandung is committed to improving the community’s health status through various programs. Purpose: This study aimed to understand how the hospital’s health promotions (PKRS) installation implements advocacy, community empowerment, and partnership programs through communication activities and media. Methods: We employed a qualitative method that included interviews, observation, and a review of relevant literature. Results: The results showed that RS Al Islam Bandung had integrated the principles of effective health communication into its PKRS program. Firstly, hospital management engages in health advocacy by issuing policies in various media that support health promotion programs; secondly, Al Islam Bandung Hospital equips the community with the information, willingness, and skill necessary to tackle the different health issues by involving patients and their families, hospital human resources, and the community; and thirdly, RS Al Islam Bandung establishes collaboration with educational institutions, local communities, and mass media. Conclusion: For the sustainability and effectiveness of health promotion programs, hospitals must ensure continued cooperation with stakeholders and continue to improve their health communication media. Implication: The study suggests that hospital management can conduct a continuous evaluation of health promotion activities carried out at Al Islam Bandung Hospital so that the health promotion and communication activities are not limited to the hospital area. The hospital can achieve this by optimizing its communication media. Hospitals can start using social media analytics and SEO campaigns to produce messages that cater to the needs of their audience.

Abstract

Background: Social media has become a significant part of our lives today. Students, in particular, use Internet media technologies to access information about their educational environments. Purpose: This study aimed to assess how private institutions in Afghanistan use social media for marketing purposes. Methods: The perspectives and experiences of noteworthy stakeholders in these universities were investigated using a qualitative research design by conducting in-depth interviews to explore the perceptions and experiences of key stakeholders in private universities in Afghanistan. Thematical analysis was used to examine the data gathered. Results: Social media is crucial for attaining marketing objectives and increasing brand recognition. According to the interviews, social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn are valuable tools for promoting higher education programs and interacting with prospective students. The findings also show that Facebook in Afghanistan, is the most widely used social media sites. Conclusion: Social media has become an essential marketing tool for Afghanistan’s private education institutions. Albeit poor and expensive internet access, which have significantly reduced the effectiveness of social media marketing. The importance of institutions in recognizing their target market, creating efficient social media strategies, and allocating funds wisely, are paramount in order to fulfill the goals. Despite these difficulties, participants saw social media as a valuable tool for promoting higher education programs and connecting with prospective students. Implications: Private education institutions in Afghanistan should recognize the significance of social media as an essential marketing tool despite the challenges of poor internet access and high costs and focus on understanding their target market, developing efficient social media strategies, and allocating resources effectively.
