Abstract

Background. Arabic is a subject that presents unique challenges for students, including at SMP IT Dzatul Akmam Kandis, because apart from learning vocabulary and grammar, students also need to understand the cultural and historical context. To improve Arabic language learning outcomes for grade 9 students, the application of the Contextual Teaching and Learning model emerged as an interesting alternative. Purpose. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the Contextual Teaching and Learning model in improving the Arabic language learning outcomes of 9th-grade students at SMP IT Dzatul Akmam Kandis. Method. This research uses a quantitative approach with a One Group Pretest-Posttest experimental design on 24 grade 9 students at SMP IT Dzatul Akmam Kandis, selected through Cluster Random Sampling. The data collection instrument in the form of an essay test showed that 20 of the 25 questions were valid, with high reliability (Cronbach's Alpha 0.918). The data obtained were normally distributed and met the assumption of homogeneity of variance. Results. The research results showed that the Paired-Samples T Test results showed a significant difference between the pretest (71.17) and posttest (86.17) scores with an increase of 15.00 points after implementing the Contextual Teaching and Learning model. This research proves the effectiveness of the CTL model in improving Arabic language learning outcomes for grade 9 students at SMP IT Dzatul Akmam Kandis. A contextual approach is proven to create more meaningful and relevant learning experiences. The implication is that the integration of real-life contexts in Arabic language teaching is very important to improve students' understanding and skills. Further research is recommended to examine the long-term effectiveness of the CTL model at various levels of education. Conclusion. This research shows that the Contextual Teaching and Learning learning model is effective in improving the Arabic language learning outcomes of grade 9 students at SMP IT Dzatul Akmam Kandis. The average student score increased from 71 to 86 after implementing the CTL model. The results of the Paired-Samples T Test show significant differences, proving that the contextual approach is able to improve students' understanding and ability to speak Arabic.

Abstract

Arabic language learning at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang is part of the Special Arabic Language Development Program (PKPBA), which must be followed by all students, including students of the Medical Study Program. Diverse educational backgrounds and differences in study focus make mastering Arabic a challenge. On the other hand, medical students generally have high cognitive intelligence in a compound manner; in the context of language education, linguistic verbal intelligence is the key, accompanied by high learning enthusiasm as well. This study aims to analyze the effect of verbal linguistic intelligence and learning motivation on medical students' mastery of Arabic. This research uses a mixed-method approach with quantitative data as primary and qualitative data as supporting, collected through observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. Quantitative analysis was conducted with multiple linear regression and partial test (t-test), while qualitative analysis used the Miles and Huberman model. The results showed that partially verbal linguistic intelligence has a significant effect on Arabic language mastery (sig. 0.004), as well as motivation (sig. 0.000). Simultaneously, however, only motivation remained significant (sig. 0.000), while intelligence became insignificant (sig. 0.259), indicating that learning motivation was the dominant factor. Qualitative findings support these results, showing that phonetic and semantic aspects are easier to master, while syntax and praxis still require more attention in the learning process.

Abstract

Background. The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted various aspects of life, including education. The Padang city mosque imam cadre school applies face-to-face and compulsory boarding methods of memorizing the Quran to overcome the limitations of physical interaction. Purpose. This study aims to understand the behavior of elementary school students towards memorizing the Quran during the COVID-19 pandemic and identify the challenges faced. Method. This research uses a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. Data was collected through interviews, observation, and documentation. The subjects of the study included principals and teachers at the mosque imam cadre school in the city of Padang. Results. The results showed that despite the limitations due to the pandemic, students remained enthusiastic in memorizing the Quran. The face-to-face use of wahdah methods and living in dormitories help students maintain their memorization. However, students' motivations vary and some students show a decrease in enthusiasm in memorizing the Quran. Conclusion. The COVID-19 pandemic has affected students' behavior in memorizing the Quran. Nonetheless, with proper support and supervision from teachers and living in dormitories, students can maintain their memorization. It takes constant motivation and support from the surrounding environment to keep students' enthusiasm in memorizing the Quran.

Abstract

Background. Sufism has historically played a central role in shaping Islamic spirituality in Indonesia, yet its presence and function in contemporary contexts—particularly among urban and rural communities—remain underexplored. Amid the dynamic religious landscape of modern Indonesia, marked by increasing pluralism, conservatism, and digital religiosity, the integration of Sufi practices and values continues to adapt and evolve in nuanced ways. Purpose. This study aims to examine how Sufism is practiced, perceived, and institutionalized within both urban and rural Muslim communities in Indonesia. The research investigates the social, spiritual, and cultural factors that influence the persistence and transformation of Sufi traditions in the context of modern life. Method. Employing a qualitative comparative approach, the study conducted fieldwork in two locations: a metropolitan city (Jakarta) and a rural district in Central Java. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with 30 participants including religious leaders, followers of various tariqas (Sufi orders), and community members, supported by participant observation and document analysis. Results. Findings reveal that urban Sufi communities emphasize symbolic spirituality, self-development, and integration with digital platforms, while rural counterparts maintain traditional rituals, communal dhikr, and strong lineage-based networks. Despite contextual differences, both settings reflect a shared commitment to inner transformation and ethical living, with Sufism offering a counterbalance to materialism and ideological rigidity. Conclusion. The study concludes that Sufism continues to serve as a meaningful spiritual resource in Indonesian Islam, adapting to socio-cultural shifts while maintaining its core emphasis on personal piety and social harmony.
