Abstract

Adolescence is characterized by active sexual hormones that can lead to sexual urges with the opposite sex. These urges, in turn, may trigger risky sexual behavior. College students, in a transitional period from adolescence to early adulthood, exhibit diversity in addressing sexual activity. This research aimed to analyze the risks associated with adolescent sexual activity in a college in Surabaya, Indonesia. The study utilizes a cross-sectional design with accidental sampling of active students aged 18-24 years. The total number of participants in this study was 221 people who filled out a questionnaire in the form of a Google Form, distributed through social media. The results show that, among all the factors identified, dating status has a significant relationship with PR 11.688 (95%CI 5.048-27.061) in engaging in risky sexual activities among adolescents. Reproductive health education at the university level is needed to reduce risky sexual activities among students.

Abstract

Teenagers are more susceptible to contracting human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Of the 34 provinces in Indonesia, East Java continues to have the highest rate of new HIV diagnoses. One tactic for HIV prevention and control is voluntary counseling and testing (VCT). The purpose of this study is to examine the risk factors associated with the uptake of VCT for HIV among adolescents in the general population of East Java. A cross-sectional study design, a quantitative technique, and an observational methodology are all used in this research. 329 individuals in total, selected at random, took part in this study. The prevalence ratio (PR) with a 95% confidence interval was examined in order to determine the level of risk. Out of all the parameters that were found, social media access (PR = 10.133; 95%CI 1.293 - 79.422) and social capital (PR = 10.741; 95% 3.240 - 35.601) were found to have a substantial impact on VCT for HIV. Thus, it's critical to enhance social capital and implement educational initiatives on VCT for HIV using social media in order to improve teenagers' favorable perceptions of the treatment.

Sidoarjo Regency with its tuberculosis cases, always ranks third for the most contributors to issues in East Java during 2019-2021. Objectives: This study aims to provide an overview of tuberculosis cases in Sidoarjo Recency from 2019 to 2021 based on epidemiological approach (person, place, and time). Methods: A descriptive study was conducted by time series in certain time intervals. This study provided an overview of Tuberculosis cases in Sidoarjo Regency in 2019-2021 based on Sidoarjo Regency health profiles and other supporting data that has been published by the related institution. The variables studied included gender, place based on sub-district area, population density, and time. Results: The result showed that the number of tuberculosis cases in Sidoarjo Regency during 2019-2021 has increased, except in 2021. Reports of the number of cases have decreased in line with several studies that show the influence of the Covid-19 pandemic that occurred in early 2020. Cases reported are predominantly male, which is influenced by factors such as differences in lifestyle and behavior. The high number of human immunodeficiency virus cases in Sidoarjo increased susceptibility to tuberculosis infection due to a weaker immune system condition compared to people with good health. Based on the density of the local area, Waru and Taman sub-districts are the most densely populated areas with the most tuberculosis cases compared to other sub-districts in Sidoarjo Regency. Conclusion: The overview of tuberculosis cases in Sidoarjo Regency during 2019-2021 experienced an up-and-down trend. Some of the reasons that support this incident include gender differences, different conditions of vulnerability, location, population density, influence of health services, and the conditions of the Covid-19 pandemic.
