Abstract

Abstract

Despite the average life expectancy of Indonesian people increasing from 63.63 in 1990 to 71.69 in 2016, the gap of life expectancy and healthy age life expectancy also increased from 7.49 to 8.72. RISKESDAS (2018) further highlighted that the proportion of Indonesian people with a healthy diet was poor. These data challenged us to implement an outreach program, Community and Family Health Care – Interprofessional Education (CFHC-IPE), involving our medicine, nursing and nutrition students for assisting families and communities with an aim of improving the population health status. Thus, we assessed their baseline status, in particular, people’s dietary habits. We attached batch 2015 and 2016 students to 465 households with 1,254 family members. We deployed them to 15 different sub-villages in Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta. Students surveyed the families and put the data in family folders during field visits in 2018 – 2019. Our focus was to seek eating patterns of the families and performed descriptive analysis of socio-demographic aspects within those with certain dietary habits using chi-squared tests. Of the 1,254 family members, those who routinely consume fried, sweetened, contained preservatives and grilled foods were 70.14%, 61.00%, 38.13%, and 20.08%, respectively. We found the adults tend to consume more sweetened foods and beverages along with grilled foods compared to the elderly, and the differences of proportions are statistically significant. The CFHC-IPE program partner families were often not realizing that a combination of their dietary habits, in particular, the consumption of fried and sweetened meals might result in threats to the family members’ health. Fried foods were the most routinely consumed followed by sweetened food, grilled foods and foods containing preservatives. These patterns were also the same in both urban and rural settings.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Google Trends has increasingly received attention as the potential data source for diseases surveillance in the last two decades. In Indonesia, Google Trends was detected as a novel predictor for dengue outbreak in national and sub-national level. Although the accuracy depended on online information seeking behavior, no study was performed at the state level. This approach is necessary to be assessed in order to measure the representativeness of the online health information seeking pattern captured by Google Trends. Objective: This study aimed to examine the online health information seeking behavior according to the history of health condition among Indonesian aged 15-60 years old. Methods: Online health information seeking behavior’ survey was conducted in 2017, involved 385 respondents. Questions were asked in three different parts including the online health information seeking in general, the use of social media, and the use of search engines. Statistical analysis was conducted using Prevalence odds ratio (POR) in Stata version 13. Results: Prevalence odds ratio analysis shows that person who ever experiences ill in the last three months is 1.63 (CI 95% 1.06-2.50) more likely to have access to the online health information on the Internet. Online health information seeking behavior seem to be in-line both using social media and search engines. The person who ever experiences ill in last three months is more likely to have access to the online health information on social media (POR 1.60; CI 95% 0.95-2.74) and search engines (POR 2.89; CI 95% 1.63-5.28). Moreover, looking for disease information on social media (POR 1.61; CI 95% 1.04-2.49) and search engines (POR 2.23; CI 95% 1.43-3.51) also influenced by health condition. Conclusions: History of health condition affects online health information seeking behavior. Further research needs to assess the Indonesian online health information seeking behavior related to a certain disease.

Abstract

Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic has had an impact on the economic and business sectors in Indonesia. The pandemic has affected household food security not only in the economic sector but also in the household sector. The number of households experiencing food insecurity has increased as they cannot meet their food needs. In Sleman Regency, a forum for women farmer's groups (KWT) sells local food. One quite active is in Moyudan and Minggir Region, but the sales are not optimal, and not all have received training. Therefore, this study aims to see changes in KWT's knowledge, improve their marketing after training, and increase their economic status. Methods: This research was conducted in Sleman Regency, DIY. The training target involved the KWT in Moyudan and Minggir Region forums. We collected primary data from KWT characteristics (24 groups) and pre-post-test scores for each training (46 and 27 participants). The activities include 1) socialization of the program and bazaar of KWT products; 2) training of KWT; 3) packaging design and accompaniment; and 4) developing module training. Results: Most of KWT produces dry foods, such as vegetable and fruit chips, and shredded. Most of KWT's businesses (75.0%) are still running, although some have stopped due to difficulty in promotion during the pandemic. The obstacles experienced by KWT were using technology, arranging home industry food permits (P-IRT), and marketing. Training 1 and 2 pre-tests and post-test results increased only a little since the participants already had good knowledge (62.5% and 85.5% mainly answered correctly). However, many participants still answered incorrectly regarding the halal certification and food licensing. Ten KWTs succeeded in designing product logos and were assisted in making new, more attractive designs. Conclusion: The accompaniment can help KWT maximize its potential to improve the community's economic status.

Abstract

Currently, generation Z is 27.94% of the Indonesian population and triggers fulfillment of sexual reproductive health information, including contraception, which should be given of 9-12 years old. This effort is necessary to reduce unwanted pregnancy incidence, free sex, and abortion. A factor potential to influence is peer communication. Determine the relationship between peer communication with contraception knowledge of early adolescents in the urban area of Indonesia. This quantitative study with a cross-sectional design uses the Global Early Adolscent Study’s (GEAS) secondary data. The research subjects were 2,225, which were 7th grade of State Junior High Schools in Bandar Lampung, Semarang, and Denpasar, Indonesia. The relationship between peer communication to contraceptive knowledge considers age, gender, sexual history, economic status, residence, and parental communication. Contraception knowledge is divided into good and poor. Data processing was done with univariable, chi-square, and logistic regression statistical tests and used 95% confidence interval (CI) with a 0.05 significance level. Peer communication significantly related to contraceptive knowledge (p-value <0.001). Other factors that influenced were gender, residence, sexual intercourse, and parental communication, which were statistically significant. Conclusion: About half of the early adolescents have good contraception knowledge, which is three times more likely in adolescent who communicates with peers.
