Abstract

Betung bamboo (Dendrocalamus asper) and andong bamboo (Gigantochloa pseudoarundinacea) are non-timber forest products that can be used as a substitute for wood. However, both bamboos have light colors that are less aesthetic and susceptible to fungal and pest damage. Therefore, it is necessary to modify the bamboo. One of the modification methods used is oil heat treatment (OHT). This research aims to determine the effect of OHT on the color of betung and andong bamboo. This research was carried out the OHT using palm oil at temperatures of 180°C, 200°C, 220°C and 240°C for 2 hours. Color parameter measurements were observed using a colorimeter that implemented the CIE-Lab color system. The color parameters measured include brightness (L*), red/green chromaticity (a*), yellow/blue chromaticity (b*), and overall color change (∆E*). The percentage of bamboo weight loss after OHT was also observed. The research results show that the brightness value (L*) of betung bamboo and andong bamboo has decreased, so that the color becomes darker as the temperature increased. The a* and b* values decreased at all temperatures and durations. In addition, the value of ∆E* increased at all temperatures with a total change showing a value > 12. The decrease in weight of betung bamboo occurred at all temperatures. This heat treatment can make the bamboo color darker and more exotic, thereby increasing the added value of the product and improving the quality of bamboo from fungi and pests due to cellulose degradation.

Abstract

Education is a very important aspect in every country to ensure the preservation of the nation's life. Students, as the successors of the nation who are at the forefront, must be able to carry out the tri dharma of higher education, namely in the form of education, research and community service. As a form of student service to the community, the University of Lampung Real Lecture Work (KKN) Period 1 of 2023 was held. In carrying out this KKN, the Tapak Siring 1 group held a work program entitled "Study Guidance to Increase Students' Understanding and Interest in Learning in Pekon Tapak Siring, Kec. Sukau, Kab. West Lampung. In this program, students provide a forum in the form of tutoring outside of school for the children of Tapak Siring Pekon. The implementation is carried out for twenty-six days which is carried out at night, namely at 19.00 until it is finished. Even though the learning interests and abilities of children in understanding learning material differ, the overall results obtained are that children in Tapak Siring Pekon are able to understand, deepen and add to their understanding of learning material according to their respective grade levels. This is evidenced by the results of the evaluation in the form of a try out (TO) carried out by students. The hope is that this program can run in a sustainable manner by financing upper class children as mentors for their younger siblings who are still in the lower class. Kata Kunci: Bimbingan Belajar, Minat Belajar, Pemahaman Siswa, Pendidikan.

Abstract

Pendidikan merupakan aspek yang sangat penting dalam pembangunan sumberdaya manusia pada setiap Negara. Mahasiswa memiliki peran penting dalam pembangunan khsusunya bidnag pendidikan melalui kegiatan Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN). Kegiatan KKN di Desa  Tapak Siring Kecamatan Sukau, Kabupaten Lampung Barat mengadakan program kerja Bimbingan Belajar Dalam Meningkatkan Pemahaman dan Minat Belajar Siswa.  Dalam program ini mahasiswa melakukan kegiatan bimbingan belajar di luar sekolah kepada para siswa. Bimbingan belajar dilakukan selama dua puluh enam hari pada malam hari pukul 19.00 hingga selesai. Secara keseluruhan kegiatan Bimbingan Belajar meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam memahami, memperdalam dan menambah pemahaman materi pembelajaran mereka sesuai dengan tingkat kelasnya masing-masing. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan hasil dari pelaksanaan evaluasi berupa try out (TO) yang dilaksanakan oleh mahasiswa. Harapanya, program ini bisa berjalan secara keberlanjutan dengan memberdayakan anak-anak kelas atas sebagai pembimbing siswa pada kelas rendah.

Abstract

Bamboo is a sustainable alternative to wood and is classified as a non-timber forest product. The primary raw material for this research is andong bamboo (Gigantochloa pseudoarundinacea). which exhibits vivid physical coloration that may reduce its aesthetic appeal. Additionally, it is susceptible to fungal and insect infestations. Heat treatment has been identified as an effective method for modifying the color properties of bamboo, with oil heat treatment offering potential advantages. This study investigated the impact of oil heat treatment on the color properties of andong bamboo and evaluates consumer preferences regarding its modified appearance. Andong bamboo specimens were subjected to oil bath at temperatures of 180°C, 200°C, 220°C, and 240°C for three hours. Colorimetric analysis was conducted using the CIE-Lab system, measuring parameters such as lightness (L*), red-green chromaticity (a*), yellow-blue chromaticity (b*), and overall color change (ΔE*). The results indicate a significant reduction in L* values with increasing treatment temperature, leading to a darker appearance. Similarly, a* and b* values decreased, indicating a shift in chromatic characteristics. A value of ΔE* above 12 suggests a total color change. Consumer preference analysis revealed that respondents favored andong bamboo heat-treated at 180°C and 200°C, perceiving these treatments as producing a more exotic and visually appealing. These findings suggest that oil heat treatment not only enhances the aesthetic value of andong bamboo but also increases its potential for high-value applications in furniture and interior design.
