Abstract

This article discusses the impact of new media on the dissemination of religious ideology, particularly in Indonesia, where the process of spreading Islam has traditionally been carried out through face-to-face meetings between students and teachers. With the rise of the internet, however, the transfer of religious knowledge has shifted to digital spaces such as websites, social media, and other online platforms. This has led to a proliferation of religious content and a blurring of the religious expert authorities, some of which may hold extremist and intolerant views. The objective of the study is to examine the major role of the pesantren educational tradition as the basis for strengthening religious moderation in the post-truth era. In the post-truth era, there are shifting models of Islamic da’wah which was originally at the practical level to the media level, as well as the rise of phenomenon where the objective facts do not influence public opinion. The researcher used a qualitative approach to identify the role and implications of the sanad tradition on the high index of potential for radicalism by internet users. Qualitative work steps such as observation, documentation, and literature study techniques were used by the author in this research. The researchers identified that Islamic boarding schools in their history are closely related to the scientific sanad tradition which can be a counter to extremist religious content in social media. The scientific sanad tradition in Islamic boarding schools has argumentatively not easily believed in religious doctrines without going through direct contact with spiritual teachers. The principle of continuous scientific sanad tradition between teachers and students, as well as direct scientific transformation, is important amid the acceptance of religious narratives circulating on social media regardless of their source and legitimacy.

Abstract

This research aims to analyse the transitivity system of Pembangunan Berketahanan Iklim (PBI) documents, one of the key climate governance policy documents in Indonesia, based on an ecolinguistic approach. Using Halliday’s transitivity system (2014), researchers explore clues to the world experience of policymakers in positioning the relationship between humans and their environment through language features in texts. Also employing the same transitivity system, this research applies a mixed-method, integrating both qualitative and quantitative techniques to provide a comprehensive analysis. The authors utilized AntConc 4.2.2. to analyse the corpus of 46,789 tokens. Concordances containing keywords: lingkungan, alam, habitat, ekosistem, and hayati were analyzed using the transitivity system framework to identify the distribution of process types and participant roles within the corpus. Research findings show a significant prevalence of material processes, indicating a focus on actions and events. Furthermore, the analysis shows the patterns of the active roles of human participants, actor obscuring, as well as environmental keywords that fill the role of passive participants and circumstantial phrases that clarify the tradition of human domination over the environment. These transitivity patterns indicate stylistic features of an ambivalent discourse that perpetuates human domination over the environment. From the perspective of Living! ecosophy (Stibbe, 2021), language patterns that still represent anthropocentric perspectives are incompatible with sustainable ecological discourse. This research of transitivity analysis enriches the study of climate governance discourse in policy documents in the Indonesian context.

Abstract

In this article, the author aims to analyze the forms of language variation in the event Berbeda Tapi Bersama (BTB) and its correlation with the speakers’ religious identity. A qualitative method approach was used in this study with data sources derived from three episodes of the BTB podcast. Data was collected using transcription techniques from the verbal utterances of the participants in the program. The study results show variations in speech in the form of code mixing and code switching originating from various languages such as Arabic, Javanese, Hebrew, and Latin. These code-mixing and code-switching forms are linguistic expressions related to the religiosity aspects of the participants. The identification found five categories related to these language variations i.e. vocative utterances, religious rituals, codes or terms originating from the holy book, and the naming of religious groups. Based on the code-mixing and code-switching that is used, Arabic was spoken by Muslim speakers, Latin and Javanese by Christian speakers, and Hebrew by Jewish speakers. The difference in the tendency of code-mixing and code-switching represents the different religious identities of the speakers in the BTB program.

This article is a qualitative study with a normative juridical approach by describing and analyzing the concept of gender in the Qur'an and fiqh. The results of this study explain that Islam teaches equality between humans, both men and women. At least there are five principles of gender equality in Islam, men and women are both servants of Allah Swt, men and women are both caliphs of Allah, men and women both accept the primordial covenant, men (Adam) and women (Hawa) are both actively involved in the events of the cosmic creation, and men and women have the same potential for achievement. The Qur'an emphasizes the equal status of men and women in terms of fundamental rights as their existence as human and divine beings.

Abstract

Abstract As a country with the largest number of mosques in the world, Indonesians often encounter a variety of public appeals in mosques. These appeals are crafted with specific linguistic structures and pragmatic strategies to ensure compliance from mosque visitors. To understand the linguistic patterns and non-linguistic factors influencing their creation, this study examines the persuasive discourse of Indonesian-language public appeals in mosques in Yogyakarta and and surrounding areas using a qualitative method. The analysis is conducted through the identification of the discourse's linguistic structure, speech act strategies, and the socio-cultural factors influencing the creation of these appeals. The analysis shows that the linguistic structures of public appeals in mosques consist of three primary units, namely phrases, simple sentences, and compound sentences. These structures use direct, indirect, literal, and non-literal speech act strategies. These structures combined with various pragmatic strategies aim for concise, comprehensive, and effective message delivery. The sociopragmatic analysis identifies five main socio-cultural factors influencing text production: religiosity, environmental/ecological concerns, security, order and comfort, and government regulations. The prevalence of appeals related to order and comfort suggests that some mosque-goers may overlook aspects of orderliness and comfort during worship. Keywords: Persuasive discourse, public appeal, speech acts strategies, sociopragmatics   Abstrak Sebagai negara dengan jumlah masjid terbanyak di dunia, masyarakat Indonesia kerap menemukan ragam imbauan publik di masjid. Kata-kata kunci: Wacana persuasi, imbauan publik, strategi tindak tutur, sosiopragmatik
