Abstract

Family is the first and main forum that greatly influences the determination of a family's future. Overall, the family environment is a place and container for the growth and development of children (family members), where the family has a big factor in forming a child's soul and character, therefore it is necessary to create a positive environmental atmosphere by instilling the principles of moral values in life. a child in the family environment carried out by every family member, especially parents. Parents have a very important role in shaping a child's character. As the main role models in children's lives, parents can set good or bad examples in their daily behavior and attitudes. Therefore, it is important for parents to understand that they are the main models in forming children's character. Abstract

Akhir-akhir ini terjadi peningkatan penggunaan internet. Sejalan dengan perkembangan teknologi dan alat komunikasi yang semakin canggih, jarak antar individu pun kini bisa diatasi hanya dengan sebuah smartphone. Melalui media sosial di smartphone, kita bisa berkomunikasi dengan orang lain tanpa terhalang jarak. Hasil survei Asosiasi Pengguna Jasa Internet Indonesia atau APJII (2018) dalam (Saloom & Veriantari, 2021) menyatakan bahwa dari jumlah perilaku pengguna internet, sebanyak 171 juta masyarakat Indonesia merupakan pengguna internet aktif dengan persentase penggunaan internet. sebesar 64,8%. Angka tersebut naik 10,12% dibandingkan tahun sebelumnya sebanyak 143,26 juta orang.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low level of self-confidence of some students of SMPN 24 Kota Jambi which is shown through hesitant behavior in expressing opinions, nervousness when performing in front of the class, and tend to be passive in group activities. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of group guidance services with discussion techniques in increasing the self-confidence of students of SMPN 24 Kota Jambi. The study used a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental experimental method and a one group pretest-posttest design. The research sample consisted of 8 grade VIII students selected using a purposive sampling technique based on the recommendation of the guidance and counseling teacher. The research instrument was a self-confidence questionnaire consisting of 26 valid items with a Cronbach's Alpha reliability of 0.839. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test and paired samples t-test with the help of SPSS 27. The results showed that the average score of students' self-confidence increased from 66.12 in the pre-test to 114.25 in the post-test. The results of the paired t-test showed a significance value of 0.001 <0.05, so the alternative hypothesis was accepted. Thus, group guidance services using discussion techniques have proven effective in increasing the self-confidence of students at SMPN 24, Jambi City.
