Abstract

A GIS-based study was performed to examine the short- and medium-term effects of coastal abrasion in Karawang, West Java. In short-term assessment the trends varied every nine year period. The equal rates were identified between 1988 and 1997 when both abrasion and accretion occurred with rate of 12 ha/year. In the period between 1997 and 2006 the accretion has dominated by causing emerging land of around 27 ha/year, while erosion only displaced 2 ha/year of coastal area. Between 2006 and 2015, further abrasion occurred with rate of approximately 15 ha/year, while accretion rate was only 8 ha/year. Medium-term analysis between 1988 and 2015 suggested that abrasion has affected on area loss with rate of over 15 ha/year, while accretion gave additional land with rate double than abrasion rate at the same period. A brief schematic design of beach protection structures has been provided in the study as alternative option to minimize the future impacts of coastal erosion by incorporating natural and artificial measures.

Abstract

Sungai Citarum merupakan salah satu sungai yang melintasi Kabupaten Karawang, yang kerap kali mengalami pencemaran, sehingga dibutuhkan upaya pengendalian yang tepat. Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi kualitas air di Sungai Citarum agar mengetahui nilai status mutu air sungai, serta memahami peran Dinas Lingkungan Hidup (DLH) Kabupaten Karawang dalam merumuskan strategi pengendalian pencemaran air. Pengambilan sampel dengan metode grab sample dilakukan di dua titik lokasi Sungai Citarum pada Bulan Maret sampai Juni 2023, terhadap parameter Potential of Hydrogen (pH), Oxygen Demand (DO), Total Dissolved Solid (TDS), Total Suspended Solid (TSS), Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), and E. coli. Nilai setiap parameter selanjutnya dibandingkan dengan Peraturan Pemerintah Nomor 22 Tahun 2021 untuk baku mutu air sungai (Kelas I), dan dianalisis menggunakan metode Indeks Pencemaran (IP). Hasil dari penelitian didapatkan bahwa terdapat empat dari tujuh parameter yang melebihi baku mutu, yaitu DO (2,4 mg/L), BOD (2,8 mg/L), COD (7,4 mg/L)), dan E. coli (105,3 MPN/100 ml). Hasil perhitungan nilai IP dari Bulan Maret hingga Juni 2023 berkisar antara 2,6-3.2 (Titik 1) dan 2,4-3,2 (Titik 2). Penelitian mendapatkan bahwa kualitas air Sungai Citarum di wilayah Kabupaten Karawang masuk dalam kategori Tercemar Ringan (IP= 2,91). Upaya pengendalian oleh DLH Kabupaten Karawang adalah melakukan pemantauan dan evaluasi pengolahan limbah cair perusahaan-perusahaan, serta pendampingan dalam pembuatan kebijakan lingkungan.

Abstract

Chitin extraction from house crickets (Acheta domesticus) has been optimized by combining a green method using Deep Eutectic Solvent (DES) and sonication heating, thereby reducing environmental impact and improving time efficiency. The extraction process consisted of insect preparation, delipidation, demineralization, and deproteinization. The results show that the green process method with DES and sonication heating is effective in enhancing time efficiency, reducing mineral content by 56.52%, decreasing protein content by 84.94%, and increasing the degree of acetylation by 21%. However, there was a slight difference in the deproteinization results when compared to the cricket samples treated with reflux. FTIR analysis confirmed the purity and structural characteristics of the extracted chitin

Abstract

Penelitian saat ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan kitin yang ramah lingkungan dan ekonomis dengan berbagai macam aplikasi menggunakan asam organik untuk demineralisasi jangkrik rumah. Sampel kitin diekstraksi dari jangkrik rumah (Acheta domesticus) dan langkah demineralisasi dilakukan dengan tiga asam organik (sitrat, asetat, dan oksalat). Kitin yang diekstraksi dengan asam asetat pada proses demineralisasi menunjukkan hasil ekstraksi tertinggi dengan hasil sebesar 6% dibandingkan asam organik lainnya. Sedangkan pada proses deproteinasi menggunakan larutan DES (Deep Eutectic Solvent) sampel yang diesktraksi menggunakan asam oksalat berhasil mendapatkan %DP sebesar 97,7% yang artinya hampir seluruh kandungan protein pada sampel berkurang. Pita karakteristik dan gugus fungsi kitin diidentifikasi dengan spektrum FTIR yang menunjukan struktur kitin pada penelitian ini sama dengan kitin komersil. Pada penelitian ini, asam organik sama efektifnya dengan asam mineral untuk demineralisasi jangkrik rumah. Proses yang dikembangkan membuka kemungkinan untuk memproduksi kitin dengan cara yang lebih ramah lingkungan dan dengan biaya yang lebih rendah di banyak sektor industri.

Abstract

This study aimed to extract chitin from rice grasshoppers using the Deep Eutectic Solvent (DES) method. The chitin extraction process involves several stages, namely delipidation, demineralization, and deproteination. In the demineralization and deproteination stages, two extraction methods were compared, namely the conventional method using strong acids and bases and the environmentally friendly method using Deep Eutectic Solvent (DES). The conventional method uses hydrochloric acid (HCl) for demineralization and sodium hydroxide (NaOH) for deproteination. DES is an effective solvent in dissolving proteins without damaging the chitin structure. This success was evidenced by test parameters of fat content from 30.91 to 9.01 with a DL percentage of 70.85%. In the ash content test, it was proven that the % ash content in pure grasshoppers was 4.87% and decreased in the demineralization process to 1.38% for the extraction stage using DES from 1.25 in the extraction process using the conventional method, this shows that the demineralization extraction process was successful in reducing mineral levels. In the protein content test, pure grasshoppers were 53.57% decreased in the deproteination process using DES to 1.11% and in the conventional method using NaOH, it decreased by 1.65%, this proves a decrease in protein content in the deproteination stage. In the chitin extraction process, an infrared spectrum analysis (FTIR) was also carried out on the extracted chitin samples.

Abstract

The growth of industry in Karawang Regency impacts the increase in burning activities in the production process, which has the potential to become a source of air pollution. These activities generate pollutants that are hazardous to humans and ecosystems. This research aims to analyze the meteorological factors influencing the distribution patterns of TSP pollutant concentrations, as well as to map the distribution patterns resulting from burning activities in the chemical industry using AERMOD View, during the dry and rainy seasons, which will produce the concentration values of pollutants received by receptors. The method used is quantitative, using an air pollutant dispersion modeling approach using AERMOD View. Secondary data consists of emission data, meteorological data, and topographic data. Data analysis was performed by comparing the AERMOD View modeling results across seasons. Furthermore, concentration values were compared with Ambient Air Quality Standards referred to in Government Regulation No. 22 of 2021. Based on the research, the combination of meteorological factors, wind direction, and wind speed are the main parameters. The pattern of pollutant dispersion is determined by the interaction between wind direction, distance, receptor elevation, when combined with the physical characteristics of the chimney and the amount of emission load released by the emission source, it will determine the magnitude of the pollutant concentration received by the receptor.

Abstract

Air pollution caused by industrial activities has become a critical issue due to its significant impact on public health and the environment. This study aims to model the dispersion of air pollutants in the form of carbon monoxide (CO) and nitrogen dioxide (NOâ‚‚) emitted from a biomass boiler stack at a steam supply industry located in Karawang Regency. The modeling was conducted using the AERMOD software, integrated with AERMET for meteorological data processing and AERMAP for topographical data input. Emission data were obtained from direct monitoring of industrial sources, while meteorological data were sourced from the Climate Data Store. The modeling was carried out for two seasonal periods, namely the dry season and the rainy season, to evaluate the influence of meteorological variables on pollutant distribution. The air quality modeling results indicated that the highest concentrations occurred during the dry season, with 1-hour and 8-hour CO concentrations of 22.46 μg/m ³ and 8.52 μg/m ³, respectively, and 1-hour and 24-hour NOâ‚‚ concentrations of 76.75 μg/m ³ and 22.71 μg/m ³, respectively. All concentrations remained below the established ambient air quality standards. The conclusion of this study indicates that seasonal meteorological conditions influence pollutant dispersion, with higher concentrations observed during the dry season compared to the rainy season; however, the levels remained within regulatory safety limits.
