Abstract

Based on the results of initial observations of the results of listening skills of 36 students present in class II, only 8 people or 22.22% of students in class II have reached the KKM in Indonesian language subjects, namely 76. This study aims to determine the effect of using hand puppet media on listening skills. This research is a quantitative study with the design of 'Posttest Only Control Group Design', namely there are experimental groups and control groups that are compared. This study is a population study because it examines the entire population of 46 with 23 experimental class students and 23 control class students. The results showed that t_hitung was 4.623 and t_table with a significant level of 5% (2.015). Based on these data, t_hitung (4.623) > t_table (2.015), then Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. Thus it can be concluded that there is an effect of using hand puppet media on the listening skills of grade II students of SDN 6 Menteng Palangka Raya.

Abstract

Elementary school age, ranging from 7-12 years, according to Piaget's development theory, is in the concrete operational phase. This phase is the initial stage where a person is able to develop the ability to think logically about an object that is concrete or real. At this phase, children who are at elementary school age are not yet fully able to understand abstract concepts. It is necessary to have the help of teaching aids/learning media to help connect reality and something abstract so that students can present real concepts from something abstract. For this reason, it is necessary for a prospective teacher to have the ability to develop illustrated stories as one of the media that can be used for learning Indonesian. This study was conducted to determine the ability of UPR PGSD students in developing illustrated children's stories. This study is a qualitative study with a descriptive approach. The subjects of observation were students of the PGSD Study Program Class C Class 2022. Data were obtained by conducting observations and documentation. The results of the study showed that most students already had good abilities in developing illustrated children's stories, although some improvements needed to achieve better results as seen from several indicators, such as creativity and originality, quality of language use, visuals and illustrations, structure and storyline, character development, and messages and moral values.

Abstract

Speaking is one of the essential language skills that elementary school students are expected to master in learning Indonesian. However, many students face difficulties in orally expressing ideas, especially when dealing with new vocabulary. This study aimed to investigate the effect of the Talking Stick learning model on the speaking skills of fifth-grade students at SDN 11 Langkai. This research employed a pre-experimental method using One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The study was conducted over three sessions on March 11, 13, and 18, 2025, involving 26 students of Class V-A. The research instrument was an oral test used to assess speaking skills. The collected data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test, as the posttest data were not normally distributed. The instrument was validated through expert judgment by lecturers specialized in Indonesian Language Education. The findings revealed an improvement in the students’ average scores from 52.9 in the pretest to 80.4 in the posttest. The Wilcoxon test result showed a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant effect of the Talking Stick model on students’ speaking skills. This model fostered active participation, boosted students’ confidence, and facilitated structured and contextual expression of ideas. Therefore, the Talking Stick learning model can be considered an effective approach to developing students’ speaking skills in elementary education.
