Abstract

Islamic banking in Pakistan has unique characteristics compared to other Muslim countries, as from its early development it was directed toward the Islamization of the entire national banking system. This study aims to analyze the development of Islamic banking products and services in Pakistan as well as the dynamics accompanying it. The research method employed is a descriptive qualitative approach through a literature review, utilizing secondary data obtained from books, scholarly articles, and relevant reports. The results indicate that Islamic banking in Pakistan has experienced significant growth, as reflected in the diversification of financing products such as murabahah, mudarabah, musharakah, and ijarah, as well as savings and investment services and Islamic financial instruments such as sukuk. In addition to functioning as commercial financial institutions, Islamic banks in Pakistan also perform a social role through the management of zakat, waqf, and Islamic social funds. Regulatory support from the State Bank of Pakistan has further contributed to the growth of this sector. Nevertheless, this development continues to face challenges, including limited Islamic financial literacy, the need for product innovation, and competition with conventional banks. This study is expected to contribute to the enrichment of academic literature on Islamic banking and to serve as a reference for the sustainable development of the Islamic banking industry in Pakistan.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to examine the ethics of decision-making and risk mitigation in the Qur’an through the narrative of Prophet Moses and Khidr (peace be upon them) in Surah Al-Kahf verse 71, and to explore its relevance to asset protection and contemporary Islamic insurance. Design/methodology/approach: The study employs a qualitative descriptive approach with library research. The main reference is Tafsir Al-Iqtishodiy by Rafiq Yunus Al-Mishri, analyzing the dialogue between Moses and Khidr to extract ethical and economic lessons on risk identification and mitigation. Findings: Khidr’s actions exemplify wisdom-based decision-making and long-term risk mitigation aligned with maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah, particularly hifẓ al-māl. Asset protection is presented as a moral and social responsibility, while takaful, ta‘āwun, and prudence in Islamic insurance reflect Qur’anic ethics of risk management. Research limitations/implications: The study is limited to textual analysis of one Qur’anic narrative and one tafsir perspective, which may constrain generalization. Practical implications: Findings provide an ethical foundation for sustainable risk management and development of Sharia-compliant insurance policies. Originality/value: The study bridges Qur’anic ethics, Islamic decision-making, and modern risk management, offering a novel conceptual framework for ethical asset protection. Paper type: Research paper Keywords: Asset Protection, Decision Ethics, Islamic Insurance, Quranic Interpretation, Risk Mitigation

Abstract

ABSTRACT Purpose: This study examines the role of hoarding (iḥtikār) and food distribution inequality in driving food inflation in Indonesia from the perspective of Islamic microeconomics. Design/methodology/approach: A qualitative approach is employed through a systematic literature review of classical fiqh sources, contemporary Islamic economic theory, national macroeconomic data, and policy-related reports. Findings: The study finds that hoarding contributes directly to food inflation, social welfare deterioration, and distributive injustice. Islamic economic principles prohibit such practices due to their inconsistency with distributive justice (‘adl), public welfare (maṣlaḥah), and the objectives of Sharīʿah (maqāṣid al-sharīʿah). Research limitations/implications: The study is limited to secondary data and conceptual analysis without empirical field investigation. Practical implications: State intervention, price controls, and Sharīʿah-based redistributive instruments such as zakat and infaq are justified to correct market failures. Originality/value: This paper integrates Islamic microeconomic principles into contemporary food inflation discourse. Paper type: Literature review Keywords: distributive justice, food distribution, hoarding, inflation, iḥtikār, Islamic microeconomics
