Abstract

This research was conducted to find out and investigate the student’ reading comprehension through the use of extensive reading in teaching at MTs. Fatahillah, South Jakarta. This research use qualitative research method which its approach is case study. The researcher use questionnaires and interview as the instruments of this research. Twenty four students as participants in this research. Based on the findings it is shown that participants feel anxious if they don't know all the words. They also feel anxious if they are not sure whether they understood what they read. Second, all of the participants agreed to think that reading is useful to shape personality. But they think they still cannot read quickly and their reading ability is still not advanced, even though half of them think they read a lot already. In conclusion, first teachers should give students friendly environment for students to read relax and comfort. Second, teachers need to influence the students’ habits and attitudes toward English reading by facilitating them interesting books such as comics and novels regularly. Third, parents or elder relative encourages students to engage in a large amount of reading books at home.

Abstract

Dalam kehidupan digital yang semakin mendominasi, generasi Milenial dan Gen Z menghadapi tekanan psikologis yang signifikan akibat intensitas keterlibatan dengan media sosial. Kebutuhan untuk terus tampil dan terlibat secara daring memicu kelelahan emosional, perbandingan sosial, serta gangguan keseimbangan hidup. Di tengah realitas ini, praktik digital detox atau puasa media sosial muncul sebagai alternatif untuk memulihkan kondisi mental. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi dampak positif puasa media sosial terhadap kesehatan mental generasi Milenial dan Gen Z. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan mengkaji berbagai sumber literatur dan penelitian terdahulu yang relevan. Data yang terkumpul dianalisis secara mendalam untuk mengidentifikasi pola-pola pengalaman, respons emosional, dan manfaat psikologis selama masa jeda digital. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa jeda dari media sosial mampu mengurangi tingkat kecemasan, meningkatkan kualitas tidur, serta memperbaiki fokus dan ketenangan pikiran. Praktik ini juga membuka peluang bagi interaksi sosial langsung yang lebih bermakna dan refleksi diri yang mendalam terhadap konsumsi digital. Terdapat perbedaan respons antara Milenial dan Gen Z, baik dalam motivasi maupun cara menghadapi jeda, yang menunjukkan perlunya pendekatan khusus bagi masing-masing generasi. Secara keseluruhan, digital detox terbukti sebagai strategi efektif dalam menjaga kesehatan mental di era media sosial yang padat akan stimulasi.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to describe the process of improving students’ speaking skill, to explore and clarify a phenomenon in social reality, especially to know how the teacher improves students’ speaking skill through pattern drill technique. This research was done at SMK BPS&K II Bekasi using Class Action Research based on descriptive data to improve students’ speaking ability which was taken sample of 25 eleventh grade students using speaking tests, interviews, observation and documentations of students’ activities while research was running in the class. The research was done by four steps in every cycle; they were planning, acting, observing and reflecting. The research scored the students’ speaking ability through pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension. Based on the Classroom Action Research done by the researcher, it has shown that the eleventh grade students of SMK BPS&K 2 Bekasi have made increase in speaking English. In cycle 1, the researcher got data from 25 students and the score was 1824 with average score 72, 96. At the cycle 2, their score increased be 1924 with average score 76, 88 and at the cycle 3, final presentation from 25 students have gotten score 2018 and the average score was 80, 72. The conclusion from the observation from Cycle 1 to Cycle 3 was that using Pattern Drill Technique proven improved students’ speaking English. The implementation of pattern drill technique used by the researcher was very appropriate for students at the eleventh grade, because they were more active to speak up in class. The repetition technique promoted students who were still difficult to arrange the sentences. The questions given to them stimulated their mind in mastering some vocabularies to speak up during speaking and learning activities. Their enthusiasms were high and they were confident to improve their speaking ability.

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to describe, Improving Vocational  School Student’s Speaking Skill Using Role Play and Video Clips. The subjects of this research were the ten grade of students SMK Nusantara Ciputat in the academic year of 2017/2018. The number of the subjects were 31 students. This research was classroom action research. The process of this research was conducted in three cycles. The data was collected by using observation checklist to know the events in the classroom during teaching-learning process. Besides, she also used the test to get the students? scores to know the improvement of students? skill in speaking from their score. The data were analyzed by using qualitative analysis.  The result of the research shows that Improving  Vocational  School Student’s Speaking Skill Using Role Play and Video Clips SMK Nusantara Ciputat in the academic year of 2017/2018 could improve students speaking skill. This successfulness could be seen from the result of students’ average score and good responses by students. The result of getting all of the treatment Speaking Skill Using Role Play average score increased in line with the increase of the students' achievement in each cycle. Before getting the treatment students' average score was 63,64 and after giving treatment was 69,84, so it increased 6.4. The average score of students in the first cycle was 63,09, the second cycle was 65,96, and the third cycle was 67,35. Based on the result of the research, it can be Improving  Vocational  School Student’s Speaking Skill Using Role Play and Video Clips.it can be valuable as the information resource for students, teachers, and the researcher.
