Abstract

The objective of this study is to enhance comprehension of how the podcast LPM Dynamics Editorial Synopsis as an academic information medium for students. Qualitative descriptive methods are used in this study to observe the use of media podcasts. In data collection, researchers conduct interviews and analyses. Researchers divide key informants and supporters in the data collection process. Key informants are individuals who understand research issues in detail and are willing to be interviewed. The podcast manager, LPM Dynamika's Siniar Editor, provides important information here. To select a supportive informant, the researchers also used purposive urposive sampling. The researchers used eight UIN SU student informants, the study was conducted at the Islamic State University of North Sumatra. The study's findings suggested that students liked the podcast LPM Dynamika Sinyar Editorial because of its interesting message delivery. LPM Dynamics Podcasts provide an extensive array of accessible information. The Podcast is considered effective as an academic information medium for students because of its excellence that is accessible at any time.

Abstract

Personal branding is the process of creating and managing an image or reputation to gain the trust of others and make yourself known. Rachel Vennya, an influencer and entrepreneur, uses Instagram as a forum to build a personal brand. The study aims to study how Rachel Vennya's personal branding as an influencer and entrepreneur grows in Instagram media. In terms of personal branding, Rachel Vennya is known as an innovative and creative person. He keeps moving forward in various fields because of his creative talents. Rachel used Instagram as a place to build her personal branding as an influencer and entrepreneur by implementing eight concepts of personalized branding. Rachel used her Instagram account under her username @rachelvennya to post photos and videos related to her work as an influencer and her business activities. He also posted stories about his personal life, family, friends, co-workers, and community members.

Abstract

Chat-GPT has changed communication, information access, and student education, therefore UINSU Medan communication science students must adapt quickly to AI in learning. This research examines how Chat-GPT enhances UINSU students' learning. This research uses quantitative descriptive method. This survey sampled UINSU Communication Science students. The results showed Chat GPT provides correct, simple data. In-depth content helps academic projects and arguments, although it might be better. Strong and responsive, this platform simplifies learning. Academically relevant and personalized GPT Chat comments demonstrate adaptability. Use improves critical thinking. Happy users learn well. GPT speeches boost learning and competencies. Many responders offered favorable feedback, however some portions need updating

Abstract

This study aims to analyse Ganjar Pranowo's populist strategy on Instagram through the use of the slogan “Tuanku rakyat, jabatan cuma mandat” (“The people are my master, office is merely a mandate”) as a form of symbolic and strategic political visual communication. In the digital era, social media has become a strategic space for politicians to construct public image, disseminate narratives, and build emotional closeness with the public. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach with a non-participant digital observation method on the Instagram account @ganjar_pranowo from November 2023 to April 2024. Data were collected from visual posts, digital interactions, and relevant literature. The data analysis follows the model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana, involving data condensation, display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that Ganjar consistently constructs a populist image by emphasising simplicity, closeness to the people, and the use of local symbols and language. The slogan is not only textual but also embodied through grounded lifestyle and political performance. Drawing on Berger and Luckmann’s theory of social construction, the study concludes that digital populism can be effectively materialised through simple yet meaningful visual symbols that shape political reality and strengthen the bond between leader and people. Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis strategi populisme Ganjar Pranowo di Instagram melalui slogan “Tuanku rakyat, jabatan cuma mandat” sebagai bentuk komunikasi politik visual yang simbolik dan terencana. Media sosial di era digital menjadi ruang strategis bagi politisi untuk membentuk citra, menyebarkan narasi, dan membangun kedekatan emosional dengan publik. Studi ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan metode observasi digital non-partisipatif terhadap akun Instagram @ganjar_pranowo pada periode November 2023 hingga April 2024. Data dikumpulkan dari dokumentasi unggahan visual, interaksi digital, dan studi pustaka. Analisis data mengacu pada model Miles, Huberman, dan Saldana melalui tahap kondensasi data, penyajian, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa Ganjar secara konsisten membangun citra populis dengan menekankan kesederhanaan, kedekatan dengan rakyat, serta penggunaan simbol dan bahasa lokal. Slogan tersebut bukan hanya teks, melainkan direpresentasikan lewat gaya hidup dan performa politik yang membumi. Dengan mengacu pada teori konstruksi sosial Berger dan Luckmann, penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa populisme digital dimaterialisasi secara efektif melalui simbol visual sederhana yang mampu membentuk realitas politik dan memperkuat kedekatan antara pemimpin dan rakyat.

Abstract

This study investigates the semiotic construction of local cultural symbols in Gudang Garam’s 74th-anniversary advertisement, titled “Towards an Excellent Indonesia.” Using Roland Barthes’ semiotic theory, the research explores how visual and auditory elements such as traditional costumes, dances, landscapes, and nationalistic narratives are strategically employed to build a brand image that aligns with nationalism and cultural pride. The analysis reveals that at the denotative level, the advertisement portrays Indonesia’s cultural richness through aesthetic visuals. At the connotative level, however, it embeds ideological narratives that associate the Gudang Garam brand with national unity and excellence. Through the concept of myth, the advertisement constructs a symbolic link between cigarette consumption and national identity a connection that is manufactured rather than organic. Audience interpretations vary: some fully accept the nationalistic message (dominant reading), while others negotiate or reject it due to concerns about the ethical implications of using cultural symbols to promote tobacco products. The study concludes that while the advertisement successfully elicits national pride, it simultaneously raises critical ethical issues regarding cultural commodification in commercial advertising. The findings highlight the complex interplay between visual communication, ideology, and cultural identity, emphasizing the need for a more ethical and culturally respectful approach in future advertising strategies.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi pemanfaatan media sosial WhatsApp Group (WAG) Gojek Kampus (Gopus) dalam meningkatkan mobilitas mahasiswa UIN Sumatera Utara Tuntungan. Gopus merupakan layanan transportasi berbasis komunitas yang diinisiasi oleh mahasiswa, memanfaatkan WhatsApp sebagai platform utama dalam koordinasi layanan antar-jemput, pengantaran makanan, dan pengiriman barang. Dengan pendekatan kualitatif dan metode studi kasus, data diperoleh melalui wawancara mendalam terhadap sepuluh narasumber dari berbagai fakultas dan semester. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Gopus memberikan kontribusi nyata dalam mempermudah mobilitas mahasiswa, khususnya bagi mereka yang tidak memiliki kendaraan pribadi dan sulit mengakses transportasi umum. WhatsApp Group terbukti menjadi sarana komunikasi yang cepat, fleksibel, dan efisien. Selain itu, Gopus juga memperkuat solidaritas sosial dan menjadi ruang pemberdayaan ekonomi bagi mahasiswa. Namun demikian, tantangan seperti lambatnya respons driver, miskomunikasi, dan belum adanya sistem layanan yang terstruktur masih menjadi kendala yang perlu dibenahi. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa media sosial dapat dimanfaatkan secara kreatif untuk menjawab kebutuhan nyata mahasiswa dan membentuk ekosistem mobilitas kampus yang kolaboratif, inklusif, dan mandiri.

Abstract

When reflecting on the state of law enforcement in Indonesia, it becomes apparent—after reviewing various cases—that the system has not functioned effectively, and in fact, may be considered poor. The weakness of law enforcement in Indonesia is reflected in the unresolved major cases, one of which is the entrenched practice of corruption, the perpetrators of which are rarely held accountable. This reality stands in stark contrast to the treatment of cases involving ordinary citizens, where law enforcement officers are notably more responsive. As is widely known, individuals involved in corruption often belong to the upper class—officials and affluent individuals—who possess the power to interfere with the effectiveness of law enforcement itself. This study employs a qualitative approach, where data in the form of narrative descriptions or attachments are collected and then analyzed descriptively. Descriptive qualitative research is a method that describes situations and events (Nurdiansyah and Rugoyah, 2021). The data collected comprise words, images, and not numerical values. These data may originate from interview transcripts, field notes, photographs, personal documents, memos, and other official documents. These informants included Jaka, the owner of the Instagram account @tebingtinggiku, and two followers, namely @chindykhr_ and @nwanny12, who emphasized that the use of social media by the @tebingtinggiku account as a platform for public service information has had a significant impact on the law enforcement process in the City of Tebing Tinggi. This platform has been utilized optimally to ensure more effective law enforcement efforts in the region.

Abstract

Online gambling has increasingly attracted Generation Z due to aggressive promotional strategies and the widespread availability of digital platforms. Beyond entertainment, it offers the allure of quick financial gains, which intensifies participation. This study aims to explore Generation Z’s perceptions of online gambling within a specific local context, highlighting behavioral attitudes and potential risks. Employing a qualitative approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews and non-participant observations with selected respondents in Rahuning II village, Asahan Regency. Findings reveal that participants generally view online gambling as an inappropriate and ethically questionable activity, associating it with adverse psychological, financial, and social consequences. Respondents emphasized the long-term risks, including addiction, economic instability, and strained interpersonal relationships. These results contribute to the discourse on digital risk behavior among youth, providing insights for policymakers, educators, and community leaders to design targeted interventions and educational campaigns aimed at prevention. This research also enriches theoretical understanding of risk perception in the digital era.
