Abstract

Abstract

The mineral feldspar is a potential raw material in zeolite synthesis because of the high content of SiO2 and Al2O3. Characterization of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray fluorescence (XRF) on Mesawa feldspar minerals showed high crystallinity and aluminosilicate composition. The synthesis process uses the hydrothermal method with various times and concentrations of NaOH. The sample was mixed with NaOH, stirred until homogeneous at 300 rpm for 1 hour, and transferred to an autoclave. The autoclave was tightly closed and heated in an oven at 170 °C for 72 hours. XRD and XRF analysis revealed that the feldspar mineral had changed to sodalite with a purity of 90.89% and 90.06%; with a yield of 80.89% and 87.36%. FTIR characteristics show a specific peak for sodalite at 422-460 cm-1 related to Si-O bond vibrations, and absorption bands at 698 and 719 cm-1 related to Al-OH vibrations. The SEM results confirmed the morphology of the sodalite resembling balls like raspberries". This research proves that the Mesawa feldspar mineral sample contains type 6 secondary building units, the same blocks as zeolite analcime and cancrinite, so it has the potential as an adsorbent for heavy metals and as a catalyst alternative

Abstract

Tagetes erecta is one of traditional herbs with a variety of pharmacological actions. This study attempted to assess the toxicity and antidiabetic activity of T. erecta leaf extract. The extraction was carried out by maceration, then continued with phytochemical analysis. Toxicity of the extract was conducted using the brine shrimp lethality test. The antidiabetic activity was evaluated by α-amylase inhibitory using the 3,5-dinitrosalicylic acid method. The phytochemical of the most active extract was identified using GC-MS and subjected to bind the α-amylase (PDB ID: 2QV4) employing molecular docking. The LC50 values of n-hexane, EtOAc, and MeOH extracts were 33.41, 14.00, and 35.03 ppm, respectively, indicating high toxicity. The antidiabetic activity showed that EtOAc extract has the lowest IC50 value (1053.95 mg/L). Molecular docking analysis revealed the compounds 1–5 has range of binding energy at −4.07 to −4.83 kcal/mol. Acarbose as a positive control showed the lower binding energy at −5.03 kcal/mol, indicated more effective α-amylase inhibitory. This study revealed that T. erecta leaf extract has significant cytotoxic potential, which may warrant further exploration for anticancer applications. However, the relatively weak α-amylase inhibitory and lower binding affinity compared to acarbose imply limited utility as an antidiabetic agent.

Abstract

The community service program "Enhancing the Capacity of the Wala Community in Sidrap Regency through the Local Biopolymer Innovation 'Kakatansea' for Sustainable Economy" aims to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions in improving community capacity. The main activities include providing education on the utilization of seaweed as an environmentally friendly biopolymer raw material for food and non-food products; training in producing edible coating spray from seaweed polysaccharides to extend the shelf life of local products; training in making modified tempeh from peanuts and seaweed to improve nutrition and shelf life; and training in making environmentally friendly soap with seaweed extract for skin health and economic value. The program involved 50 participants, using a quantitative approach with paired t-test analysis on pre- and post-intervention questionnaire data, measuring understanding, knowledge, and skills through ten key indicators. The results showed a significant increase in the average participant capacity score from 21.06 (pre) to 21.82 (post), with a statistically significant difference (p=0.000; t=-3.882; df=49). This indicates the program’s success in increasing understanding of biopolymers, production processes, product benefits, successful practices, and independent skills. Although the pre- and post-intervention correlation was not significant (r=0.240; p=0.093), the overall increase confirms a positive impact. In conclusion, this program was effective in enhancing the capacity of the Wala community in biopolymer innovation, laying a foundation for sustainable economic development.
