Abstract

Indonesia is the world's fourth-largest coffee producer, known for its distinctive varieties such as Mandailing, Gayo, Kintamani, and Toraja. Amidst the growing global demand for organic products, especially in the United States market, Indonesian organic coffee holds significant potential to enhance its competitiveness. This study aims to analyze the opportunities and challenges of the competitiveness of Indonesian organic coffee in the U.S. market. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed using secondary data analysis derived from official reports, international trade statistics, and recent academic publications. The findings reveal notable opportunities, including U.S. consumers’ preference for organic, fair trade, and sustainable products. However, the sector faces substantial challenges, such as competition from other coffee-producing countries, non-tariff barriers like stringent organic certification requirements, producer fragmentation, and climate-related impacts. Strengthening Indonesia's position in the premium market requires a comprehensive strategy involving the enhancement of farmers’ institutional capacity, development of structured cultivation systems, and collaboration among key stakeholders.

Abstract

This study offers an in-depth examination of the opportunities and challenges Indonesia faces in its textile trade with Australia, particularly within the framework of regional economic cooperation under APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation). Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, the research explores various factors that influence Indonesia’s textile export performance, including the impact of the Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IA-CEPA). The findings reveal that Indonesia holds considerable potential to expand its textile market in Australia. However, several obstacles remain, such as competition from major textile-exporting countries like China and Vietnam, as well as increasing demands from the Australian market regarding sustainability and product quality. In response to these challenges, the study recommends strengthening Indonesia’s competitiveness through improved product quality, design innovation, market diversification, and closer collaboration between the government and private sector to promote environmentally friendly production practices.

Abstract

Agricultural trade between Indonesia and Australia holds strategic importance in supporting national food security and expanding access to global markets. This study aims to examine the opportunities and challenges faced by Indonesia in enhancing agricultural exports to Australia under the framework of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). Using a descriptive qualitative method and secondary data from government institutions, international organizations, and academic sources, the study finds that export opportunities are largely driven by product complementarity and trade liberalization initiatives. Nevertheless, technical barriers such as Australia’s stringent biosecurity regulations and quality standard discrepancies remain key obstacles. Therefore, improving product quality, engaging in proactive economic diplomacy, and strengthening export infrastructure are vital strategies to boost Indonesia’s agricultural competitiveness in the Australian market.

Abstract

Indonesia’s spice trade, particularly in nutmeg and cardamom, has shown significant growth in recent years, especially with China as one of the largest and rapidly expanding markets in Asia. Indonesia possesses a comparative advantage in terms of product quality, particularly in the aroma and essential oil content of its nutmeg and cardamom. However, this trade relationship also faces numerous challenges, including technical barriers to trade (TBT/SPS), inadequate infrastructure and logistics, and intense competition from other major exporters such as India and Sri Lanka. This study aims to analyze the opportunities and challenges of Indonesia–China agricultural trade within the framework of APEC, focusing specifically on nutmeg and cardamom exports. A descriptive qualitative method was employed, using secondary data from official sources and academic journals. The analysis reveals that enhancing Indonesia’s export competitiveness requires strategic actions such as trade diplomacy through APEC, product standardization, international certification, and support for farmers and SMEs. Strengthening Indonesia’s spice branding as premium spices is also crucial to increase competitiveness in the global market, particularly in China.
