Abstract

This article delves into the unequivocal prohibition of drunkenness and gambling in Islam, as elucidated in the Qur’an Surah al-Mā’idah [5]: 90-91. While the Quranic prohibition clearly labels certain actions as ‘rijs’ (abominable acts) and associates them with the deeds of the devil, contemporary scholars often prioritize historical and juridical analyses over examining the relevance of these verses in the present day. Thus, this article endeavors to enhance interpretation by situating the text within both its historical context and contemporary circumstances. By employing the ma‘nā-cum-maghzā approach, which equally considers the verse’s historical background and the contemporary reader’s context, the article posits that the prohibition on khamr (intoxicants) and all forms of gambling transcends mere restriction to constitute a ‘binding prohibition.’ This assertion is substantiated by the identification of inherent implications significantly correlated with these proscribed acts, encompassing the promotion of temporal respect, avoidance of diverse adverse impacts on health, economy, social relations, and religious facets, as well as a deterrent against arrogance and mutual reproach.

Abstract

Abstract

Female circumcision in the Bugis Muslim community is one of the processions in affirming one's Islamic faith. What makes female circumcision problematic is the gender, health and cultural issues involved. Religious interpretations of the legal status of female circumcision, traditions and the impact or health risks of the practice have many aspects to analyze in more depth. Therefore, this paper aims to show how the tradition of the practice of makkatte’ (female circumcision) has developed in the Bugis Muslim community in South Sulawesi and is examined using gender analysis. This paper shows that there are differences in the practice of makkatte’ tradition in the Bugis Muslim community. In addition, this paper also shows that the makkatte’ tradition is influenced by religious factors under the pretext of being a form of consecration of religious perfection and on the other hand, tradition factors as a form of cultural conservation. From a gender perspective, the practice of makkatte’ in Bugis society is found to have improved gender conditions. Despite experiencing an increase in gender conditions which in practice is not dangerous, the practice of makkatte’ can be risky for girls' psychology because it continues to infringe on women's privacy.

Abstract

The LGBT phenomenon is increasingly prominent and even the perpetrators openly expose themselves to get recognition and legality of their existence. Their demands for their existence reap the pros and cons in various circles and become a polemic, including in Indonesia. This research aims to examine the LGBT phenomenon in the Indonesian context, with a particular emphasis on the perspectives of Indonesian Islamic figures and organizations on the phenomenon. The data collection method used in this research is a literature study, with data collection techniques through the collection and analysis of various literature related to the research theme, including books, journal articles, websites, Youtube channels and other sources relevant to the topic of LGBT in the Indonesian context. The research findings show that despite strong social resistance, there is a need for a balanced approach between religious values and human rights in dealing with this phenomenon. In this case, human rights become one of the bases for groups that support the existence of LGBT. However, in general, Indonesia with the majority of its population embracing Islam, the existence of LGBT on the basis of religion is firmly rejected, with the statement that the act violates the human nature given by God. The rejection is also supported by several perspectives that review the mudharat of LGBT actions. The theoretical implication of this research is the need for a balanced approach between religious values and human rights in dealing with the LGBT phenomenon in Indonesia, which reflects a fundamental challenge in harmonizing human rights universalism with the context of strong religious values.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the the items of multiple choice of Arabic language in the final semester exam subject grade X by reviewing five main indicators: validity, reliability, difficulty, discrimination and distraction effectiveness. The method used was descriptive quantitative with research subjects as many as 44 grade X students at MA Tasbeeh Baitul Qur'an Pinrang. The analysis showed that 80% of the questions were considered valid, and the instrument's reliability was in the high category, with an established Cronbach's Alpha value of 0.713, the difficulty level of most questions was in the medium category (50%), the discrimination of the questions was in the sufficient category (50%) with some questions still classified as poor and the distraction effectiveness found that the distractors functioned well more at 75% than the distractors functioned poorly at 25%. These findings indicate that the questions analyzed are of fairly good quality but still require revision of some items to improve the effectiveness of learning evaluation.
