Abstract

Community Service (PKM) conducted by the Faculty of Medicine at the Indonesian Methodist University provides counseling on stunting prevention. PKM was held on April 14-16 2023 in Ajijulu Village, Tigapanah District, Karo Regency, North Sumatra. Lectures, discussions and motivations are used as orientation methods. Question and answer discussions were held with the aim of gaining insight, understanding and solutions to solve the problems and limitations faced by the local community. The results of the PKM suggestions and research are very effective, considering that there are still many people who are ignorant of stunting prevention. This counseling increases public awareness about stunting prevention. Residents of Ajijulu must be aware and know the importance of preventing stunting, starting from the time of pregnancy and the first 1000 days of life for toddlers.

Abstract

In accordance with the application of the Tri Darma of Higher Education in the doctor's professional study program, one of which is community service. The purpose of community service activities is to provide explanations and education that can influence community behavior. This community service was carried out at an advent orphanage caring for children and adolescents with 25 participants. This community service activity was carried out on December 6, 2023, with the material of acute otitis media. This topic is very much needed in order to provide information and knowledge about acute Otitis media. Behavior to maintain ear hygiene and health to prevent this disease. Lack of knowledge many are subjected to unfavorable issues. Through this health counseling, it is expected that children and adolescents at Advent Peduli Orphanage, Gg. Kasih no 8, Sudirejo II, Kec. Medan Kota are always motivated to stay alert when playing with friends and keep their ears healthy.

Abstract

Keeping the integrity and the individual balance needed an adequate immunity system. Therefore the immunity mechanism to the dangerous antigen consists of physical immunity and chemical, symbiosis with a normal flora bacteria, innate immunity with a specific immunity which is got, consist of humoral immunity and cell immunity (cell-mediated immunity). The antibody is the component of immunity that is gotten which protects the body from microorganism infection and the product which is toxic. Because of that, the interaction between antigen and antibody is very important and much used in vitro for diagnostic purposes. The use of this reaction in vitro between antigen-antibody is called serology.

Abstract

Background: Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) significantly impact global reproductive health. Sodomy, defined as anal intercourse often involving coercion, poses a high risk for STI transmission. Purpose: To analyze the effectiveness of Gram staining and 10% KOH examinations in detecting pathogens from anal swabs of sexual assault victims. Method: This analytical observational study used a retrospective cross-sectional design. Medical record data from 33 sodomy victims at Dr. Pirngadi Regional Hospital, Medan (2022–2024), were analyzed using total sampling. The reporting of this section adheres to the STROBE. Results: Most victims were male (57.58%), with the 11–20 year age group being most prevalent (69.70%). Gram staining identified Gram-negative diplococci in 17 individuals (51.52%), while 10% KOH detected yeast in 4 individuals (12.12%). McNemar’s analysis yielded a p-value 0.0016 indicates that Gram staining is more effective for STI detection in this context than 10% KOH. Conclusion: Gram staining is a more reliable diagnostic method for detecting STIs in anal swab samples compared to 10% KOH. The high prevalence of bacterial infections highlights the urgent need for early STI screening in sexual assault cases.
