Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus is a collection of metabolic diseases caused by impaired insulin secretion, insulin action, or both so that it has the characteristics of hyperglycemia. Increased will cause a decrease in glucose delivery to the plasma membrane, resulting in insulin resistance in muscle and adipose tissue. This study aimed to compare HbA1c in normal weight and obese individuals with type 2 DM at Dr. Pirngadi hospital.Subjects and Method: This was a cross-sectional study was conducted at Dr. Pirngadi Hospital, Medan, North Sumatera, Indonesia, on May 2022. A sample of 50 patients diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM, HbA1c ≥6.5%). The study variables were HbA1c and body mass index (BMI). Independent t-test was used to compare HbA1c levels between normal weight and obese participants. Results: HbA1c in type 2 DM patients with obesity (Mean= 11.49; SD= 0.60) is higher than those with normal weight (Mean= 8.71; SD= 0.34), with p= 0.002.Conclusion: HbA1c in type 2 DM patients with obesity is higher than those with normal weight.

Abstract

Sustained elevated blood uric acid levels can lead to gout, a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by the deposition of uric acid crystals in the joints. Factors contributing to hyperuricemia include insufficient knowledge of risk factors and management, consumption of high-purine diets, and inadequate uric acid monitoring. Overweight and obesity are also frequently associated with increased uric acid production and reduced renal excretion. The aging process contributes to declining renal function, essential for uric acid elimination. This observational analytic cross-sectional study investigated the relationships between knowledge, nutritional status, and physical activity with blood uric acid levels in 30 elderly individuals at Hamparan Perak Health Center from March 5-19, 2025. Data were collected via questionnaires and analyzed using Chi-Square or Fisher Exact tests. The majority of respondents were female (73.3%) and aged 60-69 years (63.3%). Most had poor knowledge (56.7%) and high uric acid levels (63.3%). A significant relationship was found between knowledge (p=0.002) and nutritional status (p=0.000) with blood uric acid levels. However, no significant relationship was observed between physical activity levels and uric acid levels (p=0.125).

Abstract

Based on data from the Global Tuberculosis Report 2020, it is known that 1.4 million people died from tuberculosis. Indonesia is ranked third in the world with 845,000 cases. It is estimated that as many as 24,000 cases of drug-resistant tuberculosis each year, known as Multi Drug Resistant (MDR). An initial survey conducted in the work area of the UPT Puskesmas Tanjung Morawa found that the complete treatment rate for all tuberculosis cases was 60%. One of the indicators of the success of the TB eradication program is drug compliance, so research was conducted using descriptive methods with a cross-sectional approach to see the behavior of tuberculosis patients in efforts to adhere to taking medication. The results obtained in the form of a description of the level of knowledge, attitudes and actions of TB patients who have a high level of compliance in the respondents of this study.
