Abstract

Patients with myofascial pain syndrome of the upper trapezius muscle are a population that is widely found by various groups, one of which is in stone crusher workers. Myofascial pain syndrome of the upper trapezius muscle is an implication of the presence of trigger points in the taut band caused by adhesion to the myofascial structure. This study is an experimental study using pre and post test control group design which aims to compare the better intervention between the provision of myofascial release technique and ischemic compression technique on improving functional ability in cases of myofascial pain syndrome of the upper trapezius muscle. The sample in this study amounted to 22 people and was divided into two application groups with each group totaling 11 people. The results of the related t-test showed that both applications could reduce significant disability (p < 0.05), and the results of the independent t-test showed that each group could reduce disability in cases of myofascial pain syndrome of the upper trapezius muscle but did not show a significant difference, p value = 0.41 (p> 0.05). Conclusion: the application of myofascial release technique is as good as ischemic compression technique and can be used as a physiotherapy technique in reducing disability in myofascial pain syndrome of the upper trapezius muscle.

Abstract

Abstract

Introduction: Obstructive lung disease is characterised by airflow obstruction due to airway narrowing or damage. The Active Cycle of Breathing Techniques (ACBT) is designed to address issues arising from this by mobilising and clearing secretions from the airways, as well as improving breathing mechanics to reduce dyspnea. This study aims to determine the effect of Active Cycle of Breathing Techniques (ACBT) on dyspnea and airway clearance in cases of obstructive lung disease. Results: A review of 7 previous studies revealed the effects of Active Cycle of Breathing Techniques (ACBT) in reducing dyspnea and clearing the airways in patients with obstructive lung disease. Method: This study uses a literature review method. Articles published from 2014 to 2024, related to the effects of ACBT on airway clearance in patients with obstructive lung disease, were identified through relevant databases (Google Scholar, PubMed, and ScienceDirect) using predetermined keywords. Articles that met inclusion criteria, such as appropriate study design, publication year, and language, were selected for analysis. Results: A review of 7 previous studies revealed the effects of Active Cycle of Breathing Techniques (ACBT) in reducing dyspnea and clearing the airways in patients with obstructive lung disease. Conclusion: There is an impact of Active Cycle of Breathing Techniques (ACBT) exercises in reducing dyspnea and clearing the airways in patients with obstructive lung disease

Abstract

Introduction: Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic lung disease that causes lung tissue to stiffen and progressively decreases respiratory function. Patients often experience shortness of breath, fatigue, and decreased capacity for daily activities, which impacts their quality of life. While there is no cure for IPF, physiotherapy plays an important role in helping to manage symptoms and maintain lung function. Various interventions such as physical exercise, breathing techniques and pulmonary rehabilitation have been shown to improve patients' condition. Therefore, this study is needed to understand the effectiveness of physiotherapy interventions in supporting more optimal management of IPF. To assess the effectiveness of physiotherapy interventions such as physical exercise and breathing techniques in improving lung function and quality of life of IPF patients. Methods: Literature review was conducted by searching articles through Google Scholar, PEDro, PubMed, and Scopus databases using keywords related to IPF and physiotherapy interventions. Selection was done using inclusion-exclusion criteria with the help of PRISMA diagram. Results: Interventions such as aerobic exercise, strength training, breathing techniques (including pursed-lip breathing and diaphragmatic breathing), and pulmonary rehabilitation were shown to be effective in increasing functional capacity, reducing dyspnea, and improving the quality of life of IPF patients. Conclusion: Physiotherapy interventions effectively improve functional capacity, reduce symptoms, and enhance quality of life in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis patients.

Abstract

Community Acquired Pneumonia is a major cause of lower respiratory tract disease. Non-severe cases are usually managed without hospitalization, but sputum retention can delay recovery. This case report describes the role of respiratory physiotherapy in a mild pneumonia patient with sputum retention. A 43-year-old male underwent three physiotherapy sessions including infrared therapy, chest physiotherapy, effective coughing, and breathing exercises. After treatment, dyspnea decreased from Borg scale 3 to 2, thoracic expansion improved, and vital signs remained stable. Physiotherapy interventions effectively facilitated sputum clearance, improved ventilation, and enhanced breathing efficiency.
