Abstract

Traditional architecture is an architectural form that passed down from one generation to the next. Traditional houses are formed through a long time that are responsive to the environment. The traditional houses adapt with the environment to increase their level of comfort and reduce disturbances for a comfortable living. This study aimed to identify the thermal comfort of Betang Ensaid Panjang, which is the traditional Dayak houses in Sintang Regency. Identification of the thermal comfort was done by measuring the influential thermal variables; air temperature, humidity, wind speed, the clothing insulation and the metabolism at Betang Ensaid Panjang. As a building that located in a tropical climate, an analysis of the tropical architecture theories was carried out at Betang Ensaid Panjang. The results of the analysis become the hypothesis that the building applies the principles of humid tropical architecture. Based on PMV and PPD analysis by ASHRAE 55 Standard, it can be identified that the Betang Ensaid Panjang have different levels of thermal comfort in ruai, bilik and tingkak at different times. In the morning it can be identified as slightly cool, in the afternoon and evening, can be identified as slighltly warm and at night, it can be identified as neutral or comfort.

Abstract

The typical handicrafts of Sintang Regency have been known worldwide and have been registered by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage. The handicrafts that are quite famous for being typical handicrafts of Sintang Regency are Dayak Ikat Woven, Bead Embroidery, and Rattan Weaving. The current problem is the lack of adequate facilities for craftsmen in marketing, exhibiting, and introducing handicrafts so that the development of the creative economy is slow. The purpose of designing the Art Craft Gallery is as a place for production, exhibitions, and buying and selling activities for handicrafts typical of Sintang Regency by applying traditional architectural forms through a Neo-Vernacular design approach. The design uses the J.C. Jones, which contains ideas, information, and analysis, synthesis, evaluation, and optimization. Located on Jl. Sintang-Putussibau, Kelam Permai District, Sintang Regency, the design consists of many mass buildings with the main function being the Art Craft Gallery as an exhibition place and the art market as a place for buying and selling, supporting functions in the form of a multipurpose hall, studio workshop, plaza, and cafeteria. Supporting functions accommodate service activities such as prayer rooms, lavatory, and management areas. Through the Neo-Vernacular approach, the main building design refers to the Betang Ensaid Panjang House as a concept of traditionality which is applied through the shape of the building, the provision of Dayak motifs, to the outer and inner layout with a symmetrical pattern such as the Neo-Vernacular design principle.

Abstract

A museum with artistic value and function is a building created to maintain and retell a silent evidence relating to the history of a field, place and nation. This design is intended as an effort to meet the needs of the Pontianak City museum which is also the discourse of the city government in the near future. The design of the Pontianak City Museum was deemed necessary, because as the provincial capital, Pontianak City is a city that has a variety of cultures. Heritage objects that need to be maintained and preserved need a place such as the city museum. The steps taken in designing the Pontianak City Museum were using the 5-step analysis design method by J.C Jones: Idea, Analysis, Synthesis, Evaluation, and Optimization. Data collection techniques in the design of the Pontianak City Museum used primary data obtained from observations and field interviews regarding visiting data and arrangements at the West Kalimantan Provincial Museum as well as secondary additional data collected from books and articles. The result of this design is the building design of the Pontianak City Museum which is included in the landscape of the riverside area with the adaptation of the iconic city monument. Consists of permanent and non-permanent showrooms, auditorium, storage and conservation rooms.

Abstract

Flooding is a river flow that overflows natural or artificial dikes, thus inundating several areas, including the central office area. Flood control and prevention in the central office area can be done by analyzing hydrological conditions in the catchment area, where the central office area is in its area. One of the central office areas that often experience flooding is in Melawi Regency. The existing condition of the area is between 2 rivers, namely the Melawi River and the Pinoh River. This study aims to analyze the drainage system's capacity in the Melawi Regency office area. The study was conducted in Melawi Regency which is located at 0°07' - 1°21' South Latitude and 111°07' - 112°27' East Longitude. The data used are primary data and secondary data. The primary data used is the channel dimension. The secondary data used are rainfall, population, and topographic maps. The hydrological analysis was carried out, namely the analysis of rainfall intensity, waste discharge, and design discharge using the Rational method. The results showed that the largest design discharge was found in Region VII, which was 0.21272 m3/sec.

Abstract

Preserving damaged memorial buildings are vital to maintain a cultural identity to be reused and inherited by future generations. Buildings established in the past will overlook that they will be aging and weathering. Wooden construction in Malay traditional houses built more than 100 years ago faces durability issues. Environmental conditions equally make its structure unusable. In addition, its surrounding environment has changed, and the demands for new functions for improving the structure’s condition have become challenges in retrofitting the traditional roles into the current contemporary activities needs. The traditional Malay house in Kampung Bangka, Pontianak, which experienced a transfer of ownership from the original owner to the city government, altered its function from a residential house to a cultural house. Buildings having experienced weathering requires a well-planned reconstruction and re-functioning efforts from the city government. The reconstruction stages and house’s identification process of previous roles are required to accommodate new activities fit for culture and public space. Identification and analysis process carried out to resolve the damaged condition of structural elements of the building to maintain its authenticity as memorials building for the community. Identification is also required to anticipate the new function of the building by providing a new structure or reinforcement to govern the future activities during the operation period of the building. Cultural and structural analysis is carried out to improve the function of the building and the surrounding area into a cultural space that enhances its image as a public space.

Abstract

The Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) Center is a place that is the center of SMEs activity to develop SMEs products and services. Based on data from the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs in 2021, SMEs in Indonesia absorb 96.9% of the total workforce and provide 99.9% of jobs. However, SMEs have Human Resources (HR), production and marketing, financing and institutional problems. This is because there are no facilities that provide integrated assistance for SMEs players. This problem occurs systematically, so a solution is needed which is also carried out systematically, namely by providing SMEs Center facilities in Kubu Raya Regency. The aim of the design is to produce an SMEs Center design that can accommodate Kubu Raya Regency SMEs development activities while also reflecting the identity of Kubu Raya Regency in the design. The design method used is the glass box method using five design stages, namely: ideas, information, analysis, synthesis, evaluation and optimization. The result is a building design that prioritizes functionality as the main building concept. The functional aspect can be seen in the spatial functions that complement each other and are integrated into one area to systematically facilitate the needs of Kubu Raya Regency SMEs. The building accommodates training, mentoring and commercial functions as the main functions. These functions are supported by management, distribution and regulatory functions and are supported by educational functions and service functions.

Abstract

Architects, interior designers, and contractors are key professionals in the construction industry who play a vital role in Indonesia's development. In the design process, designers must consider a wide range of building materials and furniture options, which are constantly evolving. Design District facilities serve as a platform for construction industry players to select appropriate materials based on their specific needs and preferences. One notable example is the Indonesia Design District (IDD), one of the country's largest design and lifestyle expo centers, spanning 12.1 hectares. It features a shopping center that acts as a primary destination for design inspiration and high-quality materials. The Borneo Design District is an innovative initiative aimed at responding to shifts in architectural design and form. It focuses on becoming a central hub for finishing materials and home furnishings, with the goal of consolidating building design needs within a single, integrated area. The project also seeks to enhance the potential of local materials in West Kalimantan. The design approach follows R. Whittaker's five-step method, which includes the stages of introduction, definition, preparation, analysis and synthesis, and evaluation. The outcome of this process is the Borneo Design District building design, developed under the Mixed-Use District theme and incorporating a Contemporary Architectural approach. This includes sustainable design, the use of innovative materials, and an emphasis on user experience. This serves as a solution to the challenge of attracting visitors to shop, enjoy recreational activities, work, and collaborate.
