Abstract

Evaluating the Impact of a Women's Empowerment Program on Environmental Sustainability through Eco-Friendly Fertilizer Production. The high potential in Grenden Village as a corn producer has the side effect of increasing corn plant waste. Most people do not utilize corn waste, especially corn cobs. Corn waste is rich in organic matter and can be reused for plant fertilization. Corn cobs can be used as an alternative fertilizer that can replace the role of chemical fertilizers. PPK Ormawa Team of HMPS S1 Science Education ASE held training for village residents through the Gayati Women's School to provide education and practical activities to residents to utilize corn waste as organic fertilizer. This research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a training program in teaching local women to utilize corn cobs as organic fertilizer. This research was conducted using a descriptive qualitative method that focuses on describing the results obtained in real terms based on conditions in the field. Data were collected through observation, activity documentation, and interviews. The implementation of the activity was carried out in Grenden Village, Puger District in August 2024. The target of this activity was mothers who were members of the Gayatri Women's School, totaling around 20 people. The object of this activity is corn cobs which are one of the local wastes in Grenden Village. Evaluation of this activity through the results of the pretest and post-test shows that education and training in making fertilizer from Corn Cobs have a positive impact on the community such as waste reduction, economic improvement, soil health, and empowerment education.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the effect of using Notion-based e-modules to improve students' digital literacy. The study was implemented in the odd semester of the 2023/2024 academic. This study used a quasi-experimental method with a quantitative approach. The design of the study used a pretest-posttest control group design.  The data obtained were analyzed using a t-test to compare the results. The finding of study shows that the average pretest and posttest scores in the control class show a difference score of (0.52) less than the experimental class (22.00). Meanwhile the percentage of score increase obtained in the control class is (0.79%) lower than in the experimental class (33.28%). So it can be concluded that the increasing score of students’ digital literacy in the experimental class higher than the control class. Based on the results of data analysis using the t-test showed a significant increase scores in posttest compared to pretest score (t(62)= 82.76, p<0,0001), the control group also showed increase scores but not significantly different between the pretest and posttest scores (t(59)= 1,95, p=0.0571). It can be interpreted that the experimental group showed a more significant increase compared to the control group. So, the conclusion of the study show that the use of Notion-based E-modules has a significant impact on improving students' digital literacy. Further research is recommended to expand the scope of subjects from other study programs and compare the effectiveness of Notion with other digital platforms.

Abstract

Abstract

Science process skills (SPS) are fundamental to inquiry-based science learning and important for linking chemistry concepts with environmental issues. However, valid instruments to assess SPS in specific topics, such as salt hydrolysis, are still limited. This study aimed to develop and validate a multiple-choice test to evaluate eleventh-grade students’ SPS in the context of salt hydrolysis, emphasizing environmental chemistry applications. A research and development (R&D) design with five stages was employed: literature review, item development, expert validation, pilot testing, and finalization. Four chemistry education specialists provided expert judgment, and a pilot study was conducted with 150 eleventh-grade students from five high schools. Item validity, difficulty, discrimination index, and reliability were analyzed. The final test contained 28 items with a high content validity index (CVI = 0.90). Item analysis indicated two easy, 25 medium, and one difficult item. Discrimination indices classified five items as very good, 20 good, two sufficient, and one poor. All items were empirically valid, and the reliability coefficient (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.891) demonstrated strong internal consistency. Compared with similar SPS instruments, this test integrated authentic environmental contexts, such as the impact of salt hydrolysis on water pH, thereby enhancing ecological validity. The instrument provides teachers with a reliable diagnostic tool to identify students’ strengths and weaknesses in SPS. Beyond assessment, the instrument supports formative and summative evaluations, integrates environmental issues into chemistry learning, and serves as a reference for developing similar instruments in other science domains.
