Abstract

Microplastics will cause serious health problems if they are consumed by living creatures. The public's unwittingly disposing of garbage leads to increasing amounts of microplastic waste every day. The objective of the research is to examine the presence of microplastics in living creatures and to analyse what factors are causing society to engage in these non-conformist actions. The study was carried out on the Aceh Krueng River (Lambaro Bridge) in Greater Aceh district. Data was collected through in-depth interviews and observations of communities in the surrounding area. Research findings suggest that there are several kinds of plastic garbage found around the Lambaro Bridge riverway, such as: a. plastic packaging trash; and b. plastic glass trash. The effects of microplastics on living creatures are: a. for fish, they will affect a decrease in appetite and have a high potential for death. b. for zooplankton, affecting digestive disorders and acute and chronic effects of zooplanton. c. impact on humans, i.e., inflammation of organs and intestinal microbial disorders. The existence of plastic garbage is caused by non-conforming behaviour in the community, i.e., a. dumping in the river has become a bad habit; b. lack of public concern for the environment due to poor education; c. minimal interest in selling plastic waste to the wrappers; d. no punishment for the perpetrators of discreetly disposing of plastic waste; and e. minimum means and facilities of TPA in some locations

Abstract

The community empowerment program for sugar palm farmers in Dusun Batu Delapan through the CSR program Meghgek Betuah of PT Pertamina aims to enhance farmers' production capacity. However, challenges related to limited land and raw materials have hindered the sustainability of this program. This study aims to examine the implementation of the Meghgek Betuah program in Batu Delapan. The research method employed is a qualitative approach with a case study design, utilizing data collection techniques such as observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that the program has not been optimal in increasing sugar palm production. Among the four aspects of community empowerment proposed by Robert Chambers (people-centered, participation, empowerment, and sustainability), only the sustainability aspect has not been fully achieved. The limited availability of raw materials and land has prevented farmers from significantly increasing production. The other three aspects—people-centered, participation, and empowerment—have been met, as evidenced by the implementation of training, active participation of farmers, and the application of training outcomes in the farmers' daily activities. Overall, while the program has succeeded in certain aspects, sustainability remains a key challenge in improving sugar palm production in Batu Delapan.

Abstract

Ulee Kareng District is the largest coffee powder producing area in Aceh. This success cannot be separated from the social network formed by coffee traders and consumers. This study aims to analyze the social network that occurs in Ulee Kareng coffee powder traders, namely Solong Coffee Powder, Said Ida Coffee Powder, and Kupi Ceeh23. This study was conducted in Ulee Kareng District and has a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques through observation, interviews and documentation. Furthermore, the data will be analyzed from data reduction, data presentation to drawing conclusions. The results of the study show that the social network that is formed is very good including 4 things, namely: 1. Strong network norms and density, 2. Strong ties and weak ties run continuously to help open new networks, 3. The role of active structural holes, and 4. The anchorage of non-economic actions to economic actions runs sustainably. Therefore, it can be concluded that the social network that has been formed in coffee traders in Ulee Kareng District is very good. Indirectly, this shows that there is very good social network management by coffee traders. It is hoped that the social network formed among these coffee traders can be an example for other coffee traders and the government to provide empowerment for coffee traders who do not yet have a social network like the network formed among coffee traders in Ulee Kareng District.
