Abstract

 AbstractThe aims of this research were to determine  whether there is a difference in understanding the concept of students class taught by environmental-based practice method with taught convensional  student class on the reaction rate material and determine of the influence of the use of practice method based on the understanding of the concept of students on the reaction rate material. This form of research is a quasi experiment with the design of Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The sample of this research is class XI IPA which is divided into two groups, the first group as the experimental class and the second group as the control class. The worksheet were used are instruments and concept comprehension test. Based on the U Mann-Whitne testwith significance level α = 5% indicates that there is a difference between understanding the concept of students taught by environment-based practice method with those taught without using environment-based practicum methods. The value of effect size  is 1.06  with high category and gave the contribution 35,54%, it means the use of environment-based practice method influence the students' concept of understanding. Abstract

AbstractThis study aims to describe the students’ scientific work skills before and after implementing the guided inquiry model and determine whether there are differences in the scientific work skills of students on environmental pollution material. This is a pre-experimental study on seven grade students of Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs) Babussalam Peniraman, of which 27 students took part as the research subjects. Data collection tools used were scientific work skills tests, observation sheets, and interview guidelines, while the Wilcoxon test was used to analyze scientific work skills before and after the guided inquiry model was applied. Analysis results of students’ scientific work before applying the learning model were in the less skilled category by 32% and unskilled by 68%. Meanwhile, the analysis results of the skills after implementing the guided inquiry model were in the highly-skilled, skilled and less skilled categories 33.3%, 29.2%, and 37.5% respectively. Wilcoxon test results showed that the value of Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) was 0,000, which means less than 0.05 (<0.05). In conclusion, there are differences in the scientific work skills of seven grade students of MTs Babussalam Peniraman in learning environmental pollution material before and after the guided inquiry model was applied.Keywords:   Guided Inquiry, Scientific Work Skills, and Environmental Pollution

Abstract

The research was aimed to know the feasibility and readability of the guidance of chemistry practical work that was developed in electrolite and non electrolite solution’s material. This research uses research & development (R & D) which adopted development model of Borg & Gall. The subject of this research is the guidance of chemistry practical work which the readability to the student of XI IPA 2 SMA Negeri 2 Sungai Raya is examined in the first readability test and to the students of XI IPA 1, 2, and 3 in the second readability test. The result of expert judgement shows that the guidance of chemistry practical work is really feasible to be used in learning process considered of the content, present, language, and graph feasibility are 82.40%; 84%; 91.11%; and 80%. Based on the calculation of  student response percentage to the guidance of chemistry practical work gained the result of  first readibility test is 82.62% and the second readability test is 80.04%. This shows that the readability of the guidance of chemistry practical work is categories very high. Keywords: Guidance of practical work, electrolite and non electrolite, feasibility, readability

Abstract

AbstractThe study aimed to determine  the effect of systematic approach to problem solving on students’ problem solving ability on chemical calculation material at SMAN 1 Tebas. The form of this study was pre exprimental design with one group pretest posttest design. As many as 20 students of  X grade MIA 2 as sample which was selected by purposive sampling technique. Data in this study were obtained from the result of pretest and  posttest. The result showed that the percentage of students’ problem solving ability were on pretest and posttest were 22.17% (less category) and posttest 72.66% (good category) respectively. The Wilcoxon test result showed that there was a difference in problem solving ability before and after treatment. The result improved on medium category with N-Gain score 0.67. This study was expected to be an alternative learning for students to improve the problem solving ability in solving problems.Keywords: Chemical calculation, Problem solving ability, Systematic approaach to problem solving

Abstract

Abstract The purposes of this research were to know the difference between the critical thinking skills of the students of class XI MAN 1 Pontianak which is taught using predict-observe-explain (POE) learning and is taught using conventional model and know the influence of predict-observe-explain (POE) learning model on students' critical thinking skills on colloid subjects. The form of this research is Quasi Experiment with research design "Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design". The sample of this research is the students of class XI IPA 1 as the experimental class and XI IPA 2 as the control class. The measurement technique was used is technique of data collection.. The data collecting tool of this research is critical thinking skills test in the form of essay. Statistical test result using U Mann-Whitney test with α = 0,05 obtained value Z = -4,713 with Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) = 0,000 located at the acceptance area. This shows that there is a significant difference between the critical thinking skills  of the students of class XI IPA MAN 1 Pontianak taught using predict-observe-explain (POE) learning and taught using conventional model on colloid subjects. The effect of POE learning model obtained percentage of 30,23 % calculated using effect size.  Keywords: POE Model, Critical Thinking Skills, Colloid

Abstract

AbstractThis research aimed to synthesis the natural indicator paper, determine the range of pH and its feasibility. Synthesis natural indicator paper from turmeric extract (Curcuma domestica), hibiscus flowers extract (Hibiscus rosasinensis), adam hawa extract (Rhoeo discolor), asoka flowers extract (Saraca indica), determine the range of pH and its feasibility. The extract synthesis in paper form and be used as practical tool to replace litmus paper in determining acid-base characteristics of solution. This research was using  qualitative method. This research was conducted in two stages, which were the synthesis of indicator paper and determine the range of pH and feasibility. Data collection techniques were carried out by  using observation sheets to testing acid-base indicator paper from plant extracts and questionnaires for testing the feasibility of indicator paper by several teachers of the Junior High School in Tebas. The results showed that the range of pH and its colour change of hibiscus flowers, adam hawa, asoka flowers and turmeric were respectively, 4-10 (red-green), 6-8 (red-green), 4-10 (red-green), 9-10 (yellow-brownish red). The results of the feasibility of indicator paper obtained at 97.04%. It can be concluded that acid-base indicator paper from natural resource can be used as a science learning practice tool in the Junior High School in Tebas, West Kalimantan Province. Keywords: Feasibility, Natural Indicator, Range pH
