Abstract

Background. The gig economy has seen substantial growth in recent years, characterized by short-term, flexible work arrangements. Micro business actors, including freelancers and independent contractors, are significant contributors to this economy. However, they often lack the legal protections and benefits afforded to traditional employees, exposing them to various risks such as unstable income, lack of health benefits, and insufficient legal recourse in disputes. Purpose. This study aims to evaluate the current legal protections available for micro business actors in the gig economy. The research seeks to identify gaps in the legal framework and propose solutions to enhance the protection and support for these workers. The goal is to ensure fair treatment and security for micro business actors, thereby promoting a more equitable and sustainable gig economy. Method. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews. Quantitative data were collected from 300 micro business actors across various sectors of the gig economy, assessing their awareness and experience with legal protections. Results. Findings indicate significant gaps in the legal protections for micro business actors. Only 25% of survey respondents reported feeling adequately protected under current laws. Common issues identified include lack of access to social security benefits, inadequate dispute resolution mechanisms, and insufficient regulatory oversight. Interviewees highlighted the need for updated legal frameworks that recognize the unique nature of gig economy work. Conclusion. The research underscores the urgent need for enhanced legal protections for micro business actors in the gig economy. Implementing comprehensive legal reforms can address existing gaps, providing these workers with the security and support they need.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of technology, particularly in augmented reality (AR), has opened new possibilities for interactive language learning. Traditional language learning methods often fail to engage learners actively, limiting the development of real-world communication skills. AR, with its immersive and interactive nature, offers an innovative approach that can bridge this gap by providing contextualized language learning experiences. This research aims to explore how augmented reality can be leveraged to enhance the effectiveness and engagement of language learners in both formal and informal educational settings. A mixed-methods research design was employed, combining quantitative data from language proficiency assessments and qualitative insights gathered through surveys and interviews with both learners and educators. AR-based language learning applications were implemented over a period of three months with a sample of 150 students, and their progress was monitored through pre- and post-tests. Learners interacted with virtual objects, scenarios, and conversations in real-world environments, providing immersive language practice opportunities. The results indicated a significant improvement in language proficiency, particularly in speaking and listening skills, with learners showing increased confidence and engagement. AR-enhanced lessons allowed students to practice language in context, making the learning process more intuitive and enjoyable.

Abstract

The rapid evolution of educational paradigms in the 21st century has underscored the necessity for a shift from traditional teacher-centered instruction to more learner-driven approaches, such as heutagogy. Heutagogy emphasizes self-determined learning, where learners are empowered to take control of their educational journey. This study aims to explore the evolving role of educators in higher education as they transition from knowledge transmitters to facilitators of autonomous learning within heutagogical frameworks. Employing a qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews and focus group discussions involving 15 university lecturers across various disciplines. Thematic analysis revealed that educators play a pivotal role in designing flexible learning environments, fostering learner agency, and integrating digital tools to support independent learning pathways. Challenges identified include institutional constraints, limited professional development, and resistance to pedagogical change. However, the findings indicate that with proper training and institutional support, educators can effectively adapt their roles to facilitate heutagogical practices. The study concludes that the transformation of educators into facilitators is crucial for nurturing self-determined learners capable of navigating complex and dynamic knowledge landscapes.

Abstract

The challenge of catering to diverse learning paces and styles in traditional high school classrooms often limits student potential. The emergence of advanced AI, such as ChatGPT, presents a novel opportunity to create adaptive learning environments that personalize educational content in real-time. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of a ChatGPT-driven adaptive curriculum on student academic performance and engagement compared to conventional, non-adaptive teaching methods. A quasi-experimental, pre-test/post-test design was conducted with 110 high school students. The intervention group (n=55) utilized an adaptive curriculum where content was dynamically adjusted by ChatGPT based on performance, while the control group (n=55) received standard instruction. Academic performance was measured via subject-specific tests, and engagement was assessed using the Student Engagement Instrument (SEI). The intervention group demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in academic performance (p < .01) and higher engagement scores (p < .05) compared to the control group. The adaptive curriculum effectively addressed individual learning gaps and maintained student interest. Integrating ChatGPT to facilitate personalized, adaptive curricula is a highly effective strategy for enhancing both academic achievement and student engagement in high school settings. This approach offers a scalable solution to individualized instruction.

Abstract

The concept of the caliphate has played a central role in Islamic political history, evolving significantly from the early classical period to contemporary times. Throughout Islamic history, the notion of the caliphate has shifted, reflecting the political, social, and cultural contexts of different eras. This evolution has sparked debate and differing interpretations among scholars, political leaders, and communities across the Muslim world. This study aims to explore the evolution of the concept of the caliphate, analyzing key case studies from classical Islamic history through to contemporary movements. The research seeks to understand how the concept has transformed over time and how these changes have influenced political thought in the Muslim world. The research utilizes a historical comparative approach, examining primary texts, political documents, and scholarly interpretations of the caliphate across different time periods. Case studies include the early Rashidun Caliphate, the Abbasid Caliphate, the Ottoman Caliphate, and modern interpretations by groups such as ISIS. A combination of qualitative content analysis and historical contextualization was applied. The study reveals that the concept of the caliphate has undergone significant ideological transformations, moving from a unifying political and religious institution in the classical period to more fragmented and symbolic representations in the modern era. Contemporary movements have reinterpreted the caliphate for political purposes, often deviating from classical principles. The evolution of the caliphate reflects broader changes in Islamic political thought, adapting to different historical and cultural contexts. This research highlights the complexity and diversity of interpretations surrounding the caliphate, emphasizing the need for nuanced understanding in contemporary discussions.

Abstract

The quality of elementary education is fundamentally linked to teacher effectiveness, with professional competence being a cornerstone of student success. This study aimed to quantitatively determine the relationship between the professional competencies of elementary school teachers and the achievement of Graduate Competency Standards (GCS) by their students. A quantitative correlational design was employed, involving a sample of certified teachers and their respective students from several elementary schools. Teacher professional competence was assessed using a standardized competency test, while student achievement data was obtained from official GCS scores. The data were analyzed using Pearson correlation. The results revealed a significant and strong positive correlation (r = 0.78, p < 0.01) between the level of teachers’ professional competence and students’ GCS achievement. Higher teacher competence scores were consistently associated with higher student achievement. This study concludes that teachers’ professional competence is a critical and significant predictor of students’ success in meeting educational benchmarks. Therefore, enhancing the quality of elementary education hinges on targeted and continuous professional development programs for teachers.
