Abstract

The needs of English at the university level are not only focused on learning general English, but also on learning specific English that relates to academic studies or professional work. English for Specific Purposes is the term given to this particular English language (ESP). As a result, the goals of this study are to investigate the current implementation of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) at UIN Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin Banten's Faculty of Economy and Islamic Business and determine whether the current implementation of ESP meets the needs of the students. This study's participants are 47 students from three different departments: Islamic Banking, Islamic Economy, and Sharia Insurance. The information was gathered using a questionnaire and an interview. The data was then qualitatively analyzed. The findings revealed that the current implementation of ESP is equally well-applied in all three departments; however, there were some issues with course materials and time allocation. Furthermore, the implementation of English class has met the needs of the students, particularly in improving their vocabulary and speaking skills. The findings suggest that lecturers should receive ESP training and that the time allocation for the ESP course be considered.

Abstract

Speaking, as one of four language skills, is vital in people interaction and communication. Since speaking is the foundation of communication, which develops as a result of learning, it is the most crucial part of language learning. This study intends to: 1) describe the implementation of Language Club to maximize students’ speaking skills, and 2) characterize students' responses to certain speaking communities, such as the Learning Club. This study used a descriptive qualitative design. The researcher conducted direct interviews with members and supervisors using a questionnaire to gather data. The questionnaires were given to the Language Club tutors and students. The results show that the Language Club enhances students’ speaking skills supported by the latest media and technology. Besides, positive responses about the language club arise from students. They enjoy the activities and find the club more effective for practicing speaking skills than regular classes. Challenges, such as lack of vocabulary, confidence, and occasional laziness, can be solved by students and they are motivated to overcome these obstacles. Overall, the language club plays an important role in improving students’ speaking skills by providing a dynamic and supportive environment that complements traditional language learning methods.

Abstract

This research aimed to examine the influence of financial literacy and behavior on students' financial planning at the Muslim Santitham Foundation School. Adopting a quantitative method, questionnaires were used as the primary data collection instrument. A total of 100 students from Matthayom levels 4 to 6 were purposively selected as the respondents. The results showed that financial literacy had a positive and significant impact on students' financial planning skills. In contrast, financial behavior, while showing a positive effect, did not significantly influence their planning. Despite financial literacy not being explicitly integrated into the school curriculum, the students demonstrated a satisfactory understanding of the basic principles of personal financial management. This research addressed a critical gap by exploring how financial literacy contributed to shaping planning among students, particularly within a cultural context where discussing financial matters was relatively new.
