Abstract

The rapid expansion of Islamic banking underscores the need to integrate Sharia business ethics with sustainability principles, positioning ijarah-based financing as a pivotal mechanism for ensuring fairness and transparency in asset utilization. Despite its normative strength, a persistent gap exists between the conceptual framework of Sharia business ethics and its practical application. This study investigates the values of Sharia business ethics, explores the implementation of ijarah financing, evaluates the alignment between theory and practice, and examines the role of ijarah in advancing sustainability within Islamic banking. Employing a qualitative case study approach, the research was conducted at the Medan-Serdang Branch Office of Bank Sumut. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, direct observation, and documentation, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model comprising data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Thematic findings reveal that institutional practices of honesty, fairness, transparency, and trustworthiness are embedded in ijarah financing, particularly through the ijarah muntahiyah bittamlik scheme. However, limited customer understanding of Sharia business ethics perpetuates a gap between normative ideals and practice. The study concludes that ijarah financing contributes to sustainability by fostering productive economic activities, expanding equitable access to financing, and strengthening public trust. These findings imply that enhancing Islamic financial literacy and internalizing ethical values are critical to optimizing the sustainability impact of Islamic banking.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the main challenges and strategies in improving financial management accountability at Muslimeen Suksa Islamic Private School in Thailand. The research employs a qualitative case study approach. Primary data were obtained through semi-structured interviews with the principal as the person in charge of financial management and classroom teachers involved in budget implementation, supported by observation and document analysis. Data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while validity was ensured through source and method triangulation. The findings indicate that although financial management functions such as planning, implementation, recording, and reporting have been carried out, accountability has not been fully optimized due to limited human resource competence, weak internal control mechanisms, dependence on government funding, and limited digital financial systems. Accountability is reflected in documented financial reports and conformity between budget plans and realization; however, transparency and digital documentation still require strengthening. Therefore, integrated strategies including digitalization, capacity building, internal supervision, and standardized reporting are needed to enhance sustainable financial accountability. These findings affirm that strengthening institutional accountability is essential to ensure transparency, efficiency, and long-term sustainability of Islamic educational institutions.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the sharia-based MSME empowerment strategy in Serdang Bedagai Regency and to develop an integrated empowerment model. It employs a qualitative approach with in-depth interviews of 7 key informants and observations across 17 districts. The most critical gap is that 77% of the 135,922 MSMEs lack access to formal financing due to the absence of community guarantee mechanisms and low literacy regarding profit-sharing contracts. The results show that the internalization of akhlakul karimah (noble character) values functions as a mediating variable, resulting in an 8% increase in profit margins through trust-based competitive advantage, as well as solidarity-based business resilience through the practice of qardhul hasan (benevolent loans). The novelty of the research lies in the Integrated Empowerment Strategy Model (IESM), which positions akhlakul karimah as a mediating variable rather than merely an additional ethical component, and complements multi-stakeholder collaboration with a collaborative governance mechanism comprising binding coordination forums, a shared database, and joint evaluation standards. Theoretically, the IESM extends empowerment theory by incorporating measurable spiritual outcome dimensions. Practically, it is recommended to establish a Sharia Economic Empowerment Coordination Forum, simplify sharia micro-financing through linkage programs with village cooperatives, and standardize training modules integrated with akhlakul karimah values.

Abstract

lamic early childhood education institutions face increasing challenges in establishing sustainable, accountable, and Sharia-compliant governance while responding to growing demands for high-quality educational services. Existing governance models generally emphasize administrative and financial management, with limited attention to integrating strategic management frameworks and halal principles within Islamic educational institutions. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Halal Business Model Canvas (HBMC) as a strategic governance framework at Tadika Tahfiz Nur Furqan, Kedah, Malaysia. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, with data collected through semi-structured interviews, participatory observations, and document analysis. The findings were analyzed using the nine components of the Business Model Canvas—customer segments, value proposition, channels, customer relationships, revenue streams, key resources, key activities, key partnerships, and cost structure—integrated with Islamic principles of halal governance. The results demonstrate that the HBMC strengthens institutional governance through transparent financial management, trustworthy resource administration, strategic partnerships, effective parent communication, and educational services grounded in Islamic values. This study contributes to the advancement of Islamic educational management by proposing the Halal Business Model Canvas as a strategic governance model for Islamic early childhood education institutions. It also offers practical recommendations for enhancing institutional sustainability, managerial professionalism, and Sharia-based educational quality in contemporary Islamic education.

Abstract

This study explores the challenges and efforts in developing a generous attitude in early childhood through Islamic financial education at Tadika Kilauan Impian, Malaysia. The method applied is a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of this study show that Islamic financial education for children faces several obstacles, such as difficulties in understanding abstract concepts, lack of integration into the curriculum, limited teacher competence, and suboptimal application of values between educational institutions and families. This study reveals that approaches such as habituation of values, social activities, role modeling, and collaboration between schools and families are crucial in shaping a contextual generous attitude. Theoretically, these results indicate that Islamic financial education plays an important role in instilling values, not just in educating knowledge. In the policy context, this study recommends that a curriculum based on Islamic finance become a priority, teachers' capabilities be improved, and support from institutions be provided to uphold character education of generosity from an early age.
