Abstract

Modern education not only focuses on the development of cognitive abilities but also emphasizes the importance of shaping students' character to be balanced spiritually, socially, and environmentally. The Tri Hita Karana philosophy, rooted in Balinese culture, provides a framework that underscores the significance of harmonious relationships between humans and God (Parahyangan), humans and others (Pawongan), and humans and nature (Palemahan). This research aims to examine the synergy between the Tri Hita Karana philosophy and the Project-Based Learning (PBL) model in creating holistic and sustainable learning. The method used in this study is a literature review, where various relevant works on Tri Hita Karana and PBL are analyzed to understand the integration of these two concepts in the educational context. The analysis is conducted by identifying how each dimension of Tri Hita Karana can be applied in PBL-based projects, as well as the impact of this synergy on students' character development. The results of this review indicate that integrating Tri Hita Karana with PBL can create a learning environment that supports students' spiritual, social, and environmental awareness development. Through PBL, students engage in real-world projects that not only enhance academic skills but also instill values of harmony with God, others, and nature. This synergy results in a more meaningful, relevant, and sustainable educational approach, where students not only improve their cognitive skills but also become socially and environmentally responsible individuals.

Abstract

The Synergy of Perang Topat Tradition and Tri Hita Karana: A Study of the Relationship Between Religion, Society, and Environment in Lombok SocietyAbstractThe Perang Topat tradition in Lombok is a cultural heritage that reflects harmony between humans and God, fellow humans, and the environment, as embodied in the philosophy of Tri Hita Karana. This tradition not only symbolizes interreligious tolerance but also serves as a means to maintain ecosystem balance through respect for the agrarian cycle. This article aims to analyze the Perang Topat tradition within the context of Tri Hita Karana, highlighting the challenges of preserving its values in the modern era and offering practical solutions and recommendations for its sustainability. The method used is a qualitative approach based on literature review, collecting data from academic articles, books, and digital documents. The analysis is conducted based on the three pillars of Tri Hita Karana: Parahyangan (relationship with God), Pawongan (relationship with fellow humans), and Palemahan (relationship with the environment). The findings indicate that the Perang Topat tradition plays a crucial role in strengthening spiritual relationships through interreligious prayers, fostering social harmony through cross-community cooperation, and maintaining environmental sustainability through agrarian symbolism. However, challenges such as cultural commercialization, environmental degradation, and the lack of youth involvement threaten the preservation of these traditional values. Therefore, this article recommends strengthening education based on local wisdom, revitalizing traditions with creative approaches to engage younger generations, and developing sustainable cultural tourism. The Perang Topat tradition is not only relevant as a local cultural heritage but also holds potential as a model for social harmony and environmental preservation that can inspire the world.

Abstract

This study explores the role of the Begarap tradition in shaping character and maintaining social integrity within the Sasak community in Lombok. The primary objective is to understand how Begarap functions as a conflict resolution mechanism and social control tool in the face of modernization challenges. The research employs a qualitative approach, combining literature studies and in-depth interviews with traditional and religious leaders in Pujut and Praya Timur. The findings reveal that Begarap remains relevant in upholding values of honesty and social responsibility. This ritual carries strong spiritual elements, where individuals swear an oath using sacred water from Nyatuq’s grave. The belief in supernatural consequences enhances its effectiveness in regulating behavior. Despite social transformations due to globalization, Begarap endures as a symbol of cultural and religious identity. The study concludes that Begarap contributes significantly to maintaining social stability and reinforcing moral values within the Sasak community. Recommendations include integrating Begarap’s values into education and promoting its preservation through documentation and further research to ensure its relevance in the modern era.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the implementation of the Tri Hita Karana (THK) approach in Social Studies (IPS) learning in the fourth grade of elementary school to build social harmony and environmental awareness. The THK approach, focusing on three harmonious relationships—Parahyangan (the relationship between humans and God), Pawongan (the relationship among people), and Palemahan (the relationship between humans and nature)—is applied through various relevant learning activities. This research employs a qualitative method with data collection techniques including observations, interviews, and questionnaires. The results indicate that the THK approach significantly enhances students' social harmony and environmental awareness. This improvement is reflected in an increase in social harmony from 65% to 85% and environmental awareness from 60% to 82% after the method's application. Thus, implementing THK in Social Studies learning can be an effective approach to fostering students' harmonious and ethical character.
