Abstract

Abstract

Teluk Sampit District in East Kotawaringin Regency holds significant potential in the agricultural sector, particularly in supporting national food security. This study aims to measure farmers' satisfaction with the availability of subsidized fertilizers, analyze the impact of fertilizer availability on agricultural productivity, and evaluate the relationship between farmers' satisfaction and crop productivity. The research employs descriptive analysis and multiple linear regression, with data collected through questionnaires administered to 286 farmers who receive subsidized fertilizers. The results indicate that farmers in Teluk Sampit are generally satisfied with the type, price, and quality of the fertilizers; however, complaints regarding the timeliness and quantity of distribution were also noted. Subsidized fertilizers have been shown to have a positive effect on agricultural production, particularly in the food crop subsector. Based on the Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI), the level of farmers' satisfaction is categorized as "satisfied" with a score of 61.52%. To enhance productivity and farmer satisfaction, improvements in fertilizer distribution, evaluation of input assistance programs, and increased technical support for farmers are necessary.

Abstract

East Java Province is recognized as one of Indonesia’s main producers of the white sugar (plantation white sugar/gula kristal putih). However, The closure of these sugar mills raises an important question about the mills efficiency. The urgency of this study lies in the need to develop a comprehensive literature review that synthesizes existing findings on the production efficiency of East Java's sugar mills. The research was conducted in April 2025, using the literature review  method. The results shows that the efficiency of sugar mills in East Java Province remains below the optimal threshold, both technically and economically. This inefficiency is caused by several factors, including inconsistent sugarcane supply, outdated factory machinery, and socio-economic challenges such as price policy and the low welfare of farmers. Inefficiency has become one of the key reasons behind the closure of several sugar mills in East Java, particularly those owned by PTPN X and PTPN XI.
