Abstract

Based on experience of the observation during as junior teacher in SMA N 1 Pulau Punjung. The researcher found the students have difficulties in speaking. Based on that problem the researcher tried to analyze students' speaking skills by presenting and the conversation included asking the information in that conversation. There are 3 problems were mentioned such as: (1) the students had problem with their confidence to take a part in the conversation, (2) students were not familiar with what expressions should be said when asking information and (3). the teacher did not apply varied and effective techniques in teaching speaking. This research was conducted in SMAN 1 Pulau Punjung in academic year 2022/2023. The research method used is descriptive research method, where this Research involved 18 students took the test. The population in this research was 16 students first year of English department. In taking the sample, the researcher used random sampling. The research instrument used was a speaking test which involved several components in the speaking score rubric. This data collection, the researcher asked the students to perform the speaking performance by including the asking and giving information expressions. In evaluating the test, the researcher focused on the five criteria of speaking itself; pronunciation, fluency, grammar, vocabulary and comprehension. From the result of the research showed that students’ speaking skill was good the average score got by the English student in English speaking performance. The average score was 72.7. this score categorized as moderate. The most difficult component faced by the students was grammar component, where the students only got 14,1 in percentage. It menas that this component was the most difficult for the students. So, the students difficulties in speaking skill through task based learning is grammar.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to find out grammatical errors transforming affirmative to negative and interrogative sentence of simple past tense made by the first grade students’ of SMAN 1 Sipora. In this research, the population was the first grade students of SMAN 1 Sipora, the number of the population members was 84 students. The sample of this research was class X MIPA 2, and the size of the sample was 30 students. The method used in this research was descriptive analysis method to describe students’ errors and analysis the data by using formula: method to describe students’ errors and analyze P = × 100 %. The data was taken from the test; it was grammar test. The test contains 25 questions, every question was devided by into 3 parts, negative sentences, yes/no questions, and WH questions. The result of analyzing data showed that there were grammatical errors made transforming affirmative to negative sentence of simple past tense made by the first grade students of SMAN 1 Sipora. The researcher devided grammatical errors into four types. They were 217 omission errors (30.7%), 269 addition errors (38.1%), 80 misformation (11.33%), and 140 misordering (19.83%)

Abstract

This thesis discussed about an analysis of students’ vocabulary through song. This research was conducted at elementary school Baiturrahmah Padang, the academic year 2022/2023. The researcher conducted this research based on finding in the classroom. This research used descriptive research. The population in this research was 11 students at first grade of elementary school Baiturrahmah Padang. In taking the sample, the researcher used total sampling technique and the class wasselected as a sample with a total of 11 students. Most of students have moderate vocabulary. The instrument for collecting data was vocabulary test. In collecting the data, the researcher gave students a song and asked them to read and singwith loudly in order to analysis their vocabulary. In data analysis, researcher calculated the test by using vocabulary rubric score that was adopted from the teacher.
