Abstract

The study conducted at the National Potential Young Athletes Training Center (SLOMPN) of Unesa provides a crucial perspective on the use of an Android-based match statistics application. The research aims to optimize athletes' potential through the Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) approach, integrating knowledge of athlete development with the application of technology in training. The survey results from 5 coaches indicate that the application aids in planning training, understanding application features, and assessing athlete development with positively skewed average scores. However, there is room for improvement, especially in terms of comfort during matches and communication with athletes. Meanwhile, 18 athletes showed positive acceptance of the application by rating its ease of use and impact on performance enhancement highly. Nevertheless, there is a need for improvement in injury recovery features and data security. This study underscores the importance of continuous collaboration between application developers and users to enhance the effectiveness of technology in sports training.

Abstract

The rapid evolution of digital technology has significantly impacted various sports, including niche ones like petanque. This study explores the perceived benefits and barriers of using an Android-based application for scoring and statistics management in petanque, a sport gaining popularity in Indonesia. Traditionally, performance assessment in petanque relied on manual, paper-based methods, prone to inaccuracies and inefficiencies. An Android app, Petanque Match Statistics, was developed to address these challenges, offering real-time data accuracy, improved workflow, and enhanced performance analysis. This study employed a quantitative approach, surveying 50 participants (35 players and 15 coaches) in Surabaya, Indonesia, to assess their impressions of the app's usability, accuracy, efficiency, and overall satisfaction. Results indicated high ratings across all parameters, with no significant differences between players and coaches. The app was commended for its intuitive design, reliability, and time-saving efficiency. Findings highlight the potential of digital solutions to modernise petanque match administration, enhance strategic decision-making, and improve the user experience. The study underscores the importance of user-centred design in facilitating the adoption of digital advancements in sports, offering valuable insights for future developments in petanque and other emerging sports.

Abstract

This qualitative study explores the role of pickleball in promoting healthy aging among elderly players in Indonesia. As the global elderly population continues to rise, the need for effective strategies to enhance physical, mental, and social well-being in older adults becomes more pressing. Pickleball, a low-impact sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis, has gained significant popularity worldwide due to its accessibility, moderate intensity, and low risk of injury. This study employed a phenomenological approach, conducting semi-structured interviews, participant observations, and focus group discussions with 19 elderly pickleball players aged 50 and above in Surabaya, Indonesia. The findings suggest that regular participation in pickleball leads to significant improvements in physical health, including enhanced strength, balance, flexibility, and cardiovascular endurance. The sport also has positive effects on mental well-being, helping to reduce stress, improve cognitive function, and provide a sense of purpose and accomplishment. Socially, pickleball fosters community engagement, reduces feelings of isolation, and strengthens intergenerational relationships, allowing older adults to connect with younger generations. However, barriers such as physical limitations, limited access to facilities, and unfavorable weather conditions hinder consistent participation. In conclusion, pickleball is a valuable and effective activity for promoting healthy aging by providing a holistic approach to improving the quality of life in older adults. Policymakers, healthcare providers, and community leaders are encouraged to invest in pickleball infrastructure, promote awareness, and support active aging initiatives to further enhance the well-being of elderly populations.
