Abstract

This study investigates the European migration crisis, focusing on its root causes, cultural conflicts, and social integration challenges. The research highlights how armed conflict, political instability, economic disparities, and climate change drive mass migration and create significant social and economic pressures on host countries. Using a systematic literature review, this paper identifies the main barriers to integration, including language differences, discrimination, and unequal access to resources. The findings emphasize the importance of comprehensive policies that promote social cohesion, inclusive integration programs, and international cooperation to address migration flows and humanitarian concerns effectively. This research contributes to the ongoing discussion on sustainable migration policies by providing insights into both immediate and long-term strategies for managing migration challenges.

Abstract

This qualitative comparative literature study investigates the lexical evolution driven by artificial intelligence (AI) technologies within English and Indonesian linguistic contexts. Focusing on AI-related vocabulary, such as machine learning, prompts, and fine-tuning, the research critically analyses how these terms emerge, adapt, and shift semantically across both languages. English, identified as a global language, serves predominantly as a lexical innovator and supplier of new technological terms. In contrast, Indonesian demonstrates dynamic lexical negotiation through processes of borrowing, semantic adjustment, and selective localisation. The analysis highlights that these linguistic responses reflect deeper cultural, ideological, and social considerations, wherein borrowed terms often undergo subtle semantic shifts influenced by local perceptions of technology and digital interactions. The study explores hybrid linguistic practices that have arisen, particularly in digital communication, reflecting users’ strategic linguistic choices rooted in cultural identity, technological authority, and social contexts. This hybridity highlights the complexities of language use in the digital age, reflecting the negotiations between global integration and cultural authenticity. This research sheds light on broader implications regarding globalisation, linguistic sustainability, and sociocultural identity, suggesting that future research should further investigate empirical data to enhance our understanding of how communities actively navigate linguistic changes amid technological advancements.

Abstract

This study explores the psycholinguistic dimensions of lexical choice and emotional expression in Bill Gates’ 2007 Harvard Commencement Speech. Drawing on a qualitative descriptive methodology and discourse analysis of the speech transcript, this research investigates how Gates strategically employs emotionally charged vocabulary, humor, metaphors, and narrative structures to evoke specific emotional responses, foster audience engagement, and advocate for social change. The findings reveal that Gates utilizes high-emotion lexical items such as regret, inequity, and disparity to highlight global injustices while employing self-deprecating humor to reduce psychological distance and build rapport with the audience. Metaphorical constructs further enhance cognitive processing and emotional resonance by simplifying complex societal issues. This paper extends its analysis to emphasize the educational implications of Gates’ linguistic strategies, particularly in relation to public speaking pedagogy, emotional intelligence in communication, and the role of language in shaping critical thinking and social awareness. The study contributes to the understanding of psycholinguistic dynamics in influential public discourse and underscores the importance of integrating affective and cognitive dimensions in language education.

Abstract

The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in translation services has transformed the landscape of linguistic studies. This study assesses the effectiveness of AI-driven translation tools among English Literature students at UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung, focusing on translation accuracy, usability, and impact on language learning. Using a mixed-methods approach, the research collected quantitative data through questionnaires and supported it with a literature review. Findings indicate that 96.6% of students regularly use AI translation tools, with a majority finding them helpful. However, concerns about over-reliance on these tools and their potential negative impact on language skill development were noted. The study highlights the dual role of AI tools in enhancing learning while requiring human oversight for accuracy and contextual relevance. Recommendations for improving AI tools include ensuring contextually accurate translations, enhancing vocabulary databases, and integrating human input. Overall, while AI translation tools significantly aid students' academic activities, a balanced approach is crucial to avoid dependency and ensure the development of independent language skills
