Abstract

This study aims to analyze the extent of students' needs for the use of e-modules in English subjects at high schools. Analyzing students' needs for learning media is a process carried out to identify the needs and characteristics of individual students to develop appropriate learning programs by utilizing suitable learning media. In analyzing students' needs for learning media, it is important to consider various factors, such as the most effective and efficient type of learning media to achieve learning goals, students' interests and preferences for learning media, and students' technological abilities. This research is quantitative and was conducted in 2023. The study sample consisted of students from three high schools in West Sumatra. The research instrument was a questionnaire consisting of 42 statements to analyze students' needs, covering three main aspects: (1) Necessities: Language aspects that students must master, (2) Lacks: Language aspects that students have and have not mastered, (3) Wants: Language aspects that students want to learn. The questionnaire used a Likert scale with four response categories: very needed, needed, not needed, and very not needed. Data were analyzed using the class interval technique to categorize the results. The findings revealed that English language skills are highly needed by students, and they are eager to master them. Additionally, English learning media is considered essential by students to support their learning process. The types of learning media students desire include: (1) Electronic learning media that can improve English language skills, (2) Media that utilizes audio-visual elements, (3) Media that is flexible, accessible anytime and anywhere. These results emphasize the importance of developing learning media that aligns with students' needs and preferences to enhance the effectiveness of English learning in high schools.

Abstract

This community service program, designed as English training based on interactive learning and character education, aims to enhance both language competence and character development of high school students in preparing for global challenges. The program was conducted over two months through eight online sessions and supported by eight months of intensive mentoring via WhatsApp groups. The training materials integrated Indonesian cultural elements and global issues while instilling the CERMAT character values (Intelligent, Energetic, Brave, Diligent, Millennial, Noble Morals, and Responsible). Evaluation results indicate that the program successfully met participants’ expectations, particularly through interactive learning methods and continuous mentoring that addressed students’ needs. Significant improvements were observed in English skills, including listening, speaking, grammar, writing, and vocabulary, as well as in character aspects such as self-confidence, responsibility, cooperation, and courtesy. With its holistic approach, the program not only strengthened students’ linguistic competence but also fostered positive character development, thereby better preparing them to face challenges at national and global levels. Recommendations for future implementation include greater flexibility in duration and diversification of materials to optimize effectiveness and sustain students’ learning motivation.

Abstract

Abstract

Technological advances affect people’s working lives and contribute to the education system, especially in the learning process for generation 4.0. Generation 4.0 is a generation that is fully exposed to technological developments even from birth, so learning using technology will have a very good effect on them. However, conventional learning in schools is still dominated by conventional learning that uses textbooks as teaching media. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the benefits of implementing interactive learning using the E-Learning Module. The data was collected through a review of international journals starting from 2015 to 2019. The findings show that one of the appropriate media used to teach the current 4.0 generation is interactive learning or known as learning, which uses interactive multimedia with interesting materials to motivate students to learn when and anywhere. This study also found that learning using the interactive learning module has advantages in pedagogical aspects such as collaborative learning, mixed learning, interactive learning, experiential learning, and problem-based learning. Keywords: E-learning; Interactive Learning Module; Multimedia; Motivation; and Generation 4.0.
