Abstract

Adolescents needs serious attention because they are at risk of experiencing various health problems. The Pediatric Social Responsibility (PSR) initiated by the Indonesian Pediatric Society, is an innovation program to overcome the health problems of Indonesia adolescents through assistance to health workers who work at primary health centers in various subject including adolescent health promotion. One of its activities in West Nusa Tenggara was carried out in a hybrid seminar aimed to increase knowledge of health workers and related stakeholders regarding adolescent health with a school-based approach. A total of 289 participated in this activity, with 149 (51.6%) participants attending offline Program evaluation was carried out by comparing the knowledge of participants before and after the activity (pre-test and post-test) and evaluating the implementation of the activity. There was a significant difference of participants' knowledge before and after the activity (p-value=0.005; p<0.05). This program was useful (82.2%), held in a sufficient time duration (90.1%), the material was updated (72.9%) and in accordance with the needs of the participants (89.1%), also might be applied in daily work/practice. Similar activities in this PSR program need to be held again regularly with a wider coverage, varied themes and involve teenagers directly.

Abstract

Abstract

Critical congenital heart disease (CHD) requires immediate diagnosis and intervention, but its asymptomatic nature in early life presents a significant challenge for detection. This study aimed to determine the suitability of a common fingertip pulse oximeter as a low-cost screening tool compared to the standard neonatal pulse oximeter for the early detection of critical CHD. A cross-sectional study was conducted with 150 newborn subjects at a health center in Kediri. The results indicated that while the neonatal pulse oximeter measured pulse frequency and saturation more quickly, there was no statistically significant difference in the preductal (p=0.053) and postductal (p=0.099) oxygen saturation values recorded by the two devices. However, despite a weak positive correlation, a Bland-Altman analysis revealed poor agreement and reliability between the two instruments, with an average bias of 0.93% (95% CI: -7.38 to 9.24) for preductal and 0.74% (95% CI: -8.49 to 9.24) for postductal measurements. In conclusion, although no subjects were diagnosed with critical CHD, the findings suggest that the fingertip pulse oximeter is not a sufficiently reliable substitute for neonatal pulse oximetry in screening for this condition due to the poor agreement between the two methods.

Abstract

Inguinal hernia is a condition when intra-abdominal fat or part of the small intestine protrudes through a weak area in the lower abdominal muscles. The purpose of this article is to discuss and learn more about inguinal hernia. This article was compiled using the literature review method in articles discussing inguinal hernia. The data or articles reviewed were obtained through searches in databases such as Google Scholar, Medscape, PubMed, and Siencedirect. The publication year limit used as a reference for compiling this article is a maximum of 10 years after publication. The results of compiling this article obtained the definition, etiology and risk factors, epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, management, complications, and prognosis of inguinal hernia. Inguinal hernia is a condition when intra-abdominal fat or part of the small intestine protrudes through a weak area in the lower abdominal muscles. The incidence of hernia according to 2005 to 2010 and Indonesia ranged from 18,145 sufferers. Hernias can be divided into direct, indirect inguinal hernias and femoral hernias based on their location. Hernias can occur due to internal and external factors. Diagnosis can be made through anamnesis, physical examination and supporting examinations. The supporting examination used is an examination using sonography. The management carried out if someone suffers from a hernia is through operative measures that are carefully prepared. Complications that can occur are scrotal edema, testicular atrophy, chronic pain after surgery, intestinal necrosis due to strangulation and complications after surgery such as femoral vein injury, ilioinguinal nerve and iliofemoral nerve. The prognosis for recurrence of hernias can be lighter in light workers and heavier in heavy workers.
