Abstract

The purpose of this research was to determine students' perceptions of the applying of ice breaking in learning German language, particularly in the Schriflicher Ausdruck course in Unesa's German language education major. This course is often taught teacher-centre, causing students get bored. Ice breaking technique might lessen the boredom during the learning process, so that learning can take place efficiently and effectively, restoring students' concentration and enthusiasm for learning and getting ideas for writing in the Schriflicher Ausdruck course. The research questions in this research was how students perceive the implementation of Ice Breaking in the Schriftlicher Ausdruck course. This type of research is explanatory mixed method. The research population was 36 students in the 4th semester of the German language education study program who took the Schriftlicher Ausdruck course and was also used as a sampling. The data collection method was a questionnaire and observation worksheet of ice breaking implementation techniques. Data analysis techniques use descriptive. These results depicted that students looked more active and have high curiosity. The research results showed that as many as 9 students perceived the implementation of ice breaking very well, with a percentage of 25%, 17 students perceived in the good category, with a total percentage of 47.22%, and 10 students perceived quite well with a percentage of 27.78%.

Abstract

Pelatihan ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan guru dalam mengimplementasikan metode Rollenspiel (bermain peran) dalam pembelajaran bahasa Jerman, khususnya keterampilan berbicara. Kegiatan pelatihan dilaksanakan sebagai bagian dari program pengabdian kepada masyarakat di Kabupaten Magetan, melibatkan 22 guru bahasa asing. Kegiatan pelatihan menggunakan pendekatan partisipatif melalui kegiatan pelatihan, dengan instrumen berupa angket kesanggupan guru dalam mengimplementasikan Rollenspiel. Hasil pelatihan menunjukkan bahwa guru memiliki kesanggupan tinggi dalam mempraktikkan metode ini, dengan rata-rata skor indikator antara 3,9–4,6 (skala 1–5). Indikator tertinggi adalah kesanggupan memanfaatkan Rollenspiel untuk meningkatkan keberanian siswa berbicara, sedangkan indikator terendah adalah kemampuan merancang skenario peran. Secara umum, Rollenspiel dipandang bermanfaat, aplikatif, dan menyenangkan, serta dapat menjadi alternatif inovatif dalam pembelajaran bahasa asing.

Abstract

One of the abilities of living beings is to interact with each other. The medium used is language. By using language, one can get to know others through digital programs. Süddeutsche Zeitung, an online newspaper in Germany provides an introduction room that is Heirats- & Bekanntschaftsanzeigen (wedding advertisements and introductions) which has five rubrics. One of the rubrics is Urlaubs-/Freizeitbekanntschaften. This qualitative descriptive research seeks to analyze the nouns and adjectives selected by the authors of the advertisement in the rubric Urlaubs-/Freizeitbekanntschaften.  (Introduction to find people who are willing to accompany in vacation time or leisure time). This kind of rubric is interesting, because it does not yet exist in Indonesia. With the language research method, 15 data from Süddeutsche Zeitung online August 6, 2022, August 13, 2022, and August 20, 2022 were analyzed. The results showed that 50% of work/status nominas were used by ad authors to introduce themselves and more than 75% of ad authors used adjektives that were affixed to nomina in a position as sentence objects in order to get the desired acquaintance. Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of Easy German videos as a supporting medium in learning German recipe writing in the German Literature Study Program at Surabaya State University. As a YouTube channel providing authentic German language learning materials, Easy German videos showcase everyday life in Germany through actors using communicative language, gestures, and facial expressions, thereby helping students understand German grammar, vocabulary, and cultural context while practicing listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Students' ability to write German recipes using passive sentences is an interesting topic to discuss, as passive sentences in German have structural differences from Indonesian. This action research, which utilized data from observations, documentation, and interviews, was conducted with 31 students from the German Literature Program in the Writing 4 course during the even semester of the 2024/2025 academic year as respondents. The results of the study indicate that the use of Easy German videos in teaching German recipe writing enhances students' writing skills, and 87% of respondents stated that the topics presented in the Easy German videos are relevant to supporting German language learning in their classes. Students' understanding of German culinary traditions is also enriched through exposure to German recipes.
