Abstract

Modern science has been marred by lingering problems andconsequences, as twentieth-century critics like Theodor Adorno andSeyyed Hossein Nasr argued that modern science has been emptied ofspiritual values and increasingly disconnected from ethical religiousconcerns. As a result, most scientists adhere to the dichotomy betweenscience and religion, implying not only distinction, but also separationand contradiction. Equally problematic is the widely held, but naïve, viewthat science is neutral and value-free, has no human, economic, political, military, national, industrial or commercial interests. In the wake ofrealization that modern science could be harmful and detrimental to theminds and lives of Muslim. Calls for Islamization was launched acrossthe Muslim world from Virginia to Casablanca. This article aims to assessthe idea of Islamization of contemporary science as espoused andelaborated by Imam Suprayogo, a former rector of the State IslamicUniversity (UIN) in Malang, Indonesia. Based on library research, thisstudy found that Imam Suprayogo’s idea of Islamization prescribesintegration of science and religion to eradicate the long-held dichotomybetween the two, particularly between scientific claims and Islamicdoctrines. Imam Suprayogo also proposed to reconstruct a religiousscientific paradigm by introducing the “tree of knowledge” andlaunching the “Tarbiyah Ulul Albab” (education of the Intelligentsia)which has been implemented during his term in an attempt to transformUIN Malang into an Islamic educational institution that teaches bothscience and religion while at the same time projecting the Islamic values.

Abstract

One of the most pressing and multifaceted challenges in contemporary society is the issue of justice in human life. Social inequality, discrimination, and disparities in access to fundamental rights - such as education, economic opportunities, and healthcare - serve as tangible evidence that justice often remains an abstract ideal without equitable implementation. This study examines the concept of humanity and justice in Islam through the interpretive framework of Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas, with a focus on: (1) the definition of justice, (2) the individual as the subject of justice, (3) individual freedom as the foundational principle of justice, and (4) equality as a critical prerequisite for justice. Employing a qualitative research design, this study utilizes a descriptive-analytical method combined with a philosophical exegesis approach, interpreting Qur'anic verses through philosophical theory. The findings indicate that humans, as moral agents, play a pivotal role in the realization of justice. Justice, as a core Islamic principle, originates from divine revelation and embodies balance, harmony, and the proper allocation of all things to their rightful place. Justice is achieved when individuals, acting as its practitioners, consciously and freely acknowledge and submit to Allah as the Creator, fulfill their obligations, and equitably honor the dignity of others. Al-Attas underscores the human role as vicegerents (khali>fah) on earth, bearing the responsibility to uphold justice in alignment with human nature (fit}rah). Furthermore, ethics and one’s relationship with God are identified as essential foundations for fostering justice within society and the state.

Abstract

Technology has a significant influence on various aspects of life, particularly in education. Artificial Intelligence (AI) emerges as a solution for Digital Learning 5.0 in enhancing innovation, systems, and learning effectiveness. However, this technology must be utilized appropriately through virtual media such as Augmented Reality (AR), which should be designed in innovative and creative ways. Through the integration of Islamic education and STEM learning, there is a strong commitment to apply AI in an adaptive and inclusive learning context supported by AR. The purpose of this study is to explain the role of AI in education, the opportunities and challenges of technology in Islamic education, and the impact of AR in STEM-based learning. This research employs a qualitative method using a comparative analysis approach through library research. The findings reveal that the integration of AI contributes to improving critical thinking skills, character development, and enriching the learning process effectively on a global scale. Nevertheless, this technology cannot stand alone; it requires harmony between science and divine revelation. AR serves as an educational solution that bridges digital and real-world learning experiences. STEM, as an integrative field of knowledge, plays a crucial role in fostering innovation, creativity, critical thinking, and learning effectiveness. Therefore, the integration of AI technology through AR can enhance critical intellectual capacity grounded in Islamic values.
