Abstract

This paper investigates the Islamic legal concept of ḥalāl (‘allowed’) and closely related notions, ṭayyib (‘good’) and ṭāhir (‘clean, pure’), as well as the opposite concepts including ḥarām (‘forbidden’), najis (‘filthy’), shubhat (‘vague’), and ḍarūrat (‘forced’) as they are outlined in the Qur’an and Hadith from epistemological and philosophical perspectives. Moreover, it will deal with the Islamic ruling on consumer products that are derived from forbidden materials and have undergone natural or chemical transformation (istiḥālah). By so doing, the paper is not only highlighting the flexible nature of Islamic law but also exploring the relationship between religion, law and science.

Abstract

This article attempts to clarify this issue and explain Ibn ‘Arabi’s interpretive method, particularly in dealing with the so-called ‘ambiguous verses’ (ayat mutashabihat)of the Holy Quran, on the basis of meticulous reading of several relevant chapters of his kitab al-Futuhat al-Makkiyyah(‘Meccan Illuminations’) and other treatises. The discussion reveals Ibn ‘Arabi’s approach to Quranic interpretation which rests on the assumption that all the possible meanings that the Arabic language allows for any given word or group of words in the Quran are valid, and that rejection of any one of these meanings would imply limiting God’s knowledge and inappropriately saying that God was unaware of the various ways in which His Word could be interpreted. In contrast to the theologians (Mutakallimun)and philosophers (Falasifah), Ibn ‘Arabi rejects rational interpretation (ta’wil ‘aqli)outright. If reason finds the ambiguous verses of the Quran unacceptable, this only proves its own imperfection and failure to comprehend, not the necessity of interpretation. While he insists that one’s reading of the Quran must conform to the Arabic language as spoken by its original recipient, Ibn ‘Arabi more often than not offers surprising and highly original interpretations that seek to unveil the mystical treasures hidden in the text.

Abstract

This study aims to study the management of waqf-based Pesantren’s strategy namelyPondok Modern Darussalam DarussalamGontor (PMDG) in developing human capital and entrepreneurship education for educational independence, as for this research related to the management of waqf. This research using qualitative descriptive methods and data obtained through triangulation techniques. As a result, waqf-based pesantren strategies in developing educational independence through community-based education (Kiai, teachers, santri, and society) make the harmony of pesantrenlife with all its totality a medium of learning and education combined with a culture of values ​​and philosophy, leadership and strengthening of modern systems management to product people who embedded 3 intelligences; iman (in faith), ilmu (in knowledge), and amal (in deed) those are supported by the management and development of waqf as an instrument for developing human capital and entrepreneurial education. The implication of this research is to make the management of waqf in waqf-based educational institutions as an instrument to develop and improve the accountability of waqf management to stakeholders.

Abstract

AbstractSunni-Shiite relations have been a perennial problem for Muslims for hundreds of years. Each has its own characteristics, style, character, worldview and belief system. Harmony and tension continue alternately to color the relationship between the two. In the present-day Middle East, Sunni-Shia tensions contribute to multiple flash points that are viewed as growing threats to international peace and security. Many ask, therefore: Is it possible for Sunnis and Shiites to be reconciled or united? Is it possible that the centuries-old conflict is revoked and eliminated? This article tries to answer these crucial questions from theological and historical perspectives, revealing facts that are often overlooked and tracing primary and secondary authoritative sources. It was concluded that the Shiites emerged from within the Muslim community and had freely but persistently used Islamic concepts, terms, and symbols such as imam, Ahlul Bayt, ‘Ashura (the tenth day of Muharram), mut‘ah (temporary marriage), sayyid (master), ayat (sign) for ideological purposes most of which contradict the faith of Ahlus Sunnah wal Jama‘ah.Keywords: Shi'ah, Shiism, Sunni-Shia Conflict, Intra-religious Polemic, Sectarianism, ReconciliationAbstrakHubungan Sunni-Syi‘ah menjadi masalah perenial umat Islam sejak beratus tahun lamanya. Masing-masing mempunyai ciri, corak, karakter, cara pandang dan sistem kepercayaan tersendiri. Kerukunan dan ketegangan silih-berganti mewarnai relasi antara keduanya. Banyak yang bertanya, mungkinkah Sunni dan Syi‘ah dipertemukan atau dipersatukan? Dan mungkinkah konflik yang telah mengakar ratusan tahun lamanya itu bisa dicabut dan dilenyapkan? Artikel ini coba menjawab pertanyaan-pertanyaan krusial ini dari perspektif teologis maupun historis, dengan menyingkap fakta-fakta yang sering diabaikan dan menelusuri sumber-sumber otoritatif primer serta sekunder. Disimpulkan bahwa Syi‘ah muncul dari dalam umat Islam dan memakai konsep-konsep, istilah-istilah, serta simbol-simbol yang ada di dalam Islam seperti ‘imam’, ‘Ahlul Bayt’, ‘Asyura’, ‘mut‘ah’, ‘sayyid’, ‘ayat’ untuk kepentingan ideologis yang bertolak-belakang dengan akidah Ahlus Sunnah wal Jama‘ah. Kata Kunci: Syiah, Konflik Sunni-Syiah, Polemik Antargolongan, Sektarianisme,Rekonsiliasi.

Abstract

Modern science has been marred by lingering problems andconsequences, as twentieth-century critics like Theodor Adorno andSeyyed Hossein Nasr argued that modern science has been emptied ofspiritual values and increasingly disconnected from ethical religiousconcerns. As a result, most scientists adhere to the dichotomy betweenscience and religion, implying not only distinction, but also separationand contradiction. Equally problematic is the widely held, but naïve, viewthat science is neutral and value-free, has no human, economic, political,military, national, industrial or commercial interests. In the wake ofrealization that modern science could be harmful and detrimental to theminds and lives of Muslim. Calls for Islamization was launched acrossthe Muslim world from Virginia to Casablanca. This article aims to assessthe idea of Islamization of contemporary science as espoused andelaborated by Imam Suprayogo, a former rector of the State IslamicUniversity (UIN) in Malang, Indonesia. Based on library research, thisstudy found that Imam Suprayogo’s idea of Islamization prescribesintegration of science and religion to eradicate the long-held dichotomybetween the two, particularly between scientific claims and Islamicdoctrines. Imam Suprayogo also proposed to reconstruct a religiousscientific paradigm by introducing the “tree of knowledge” andlaunching the “Tarbiyah Ulul Albab” (education of the Intelligentsia)which has been implemented during his term in an attempt to transformUIN Malang into an Islamic educational institution that teaches bothscience and religion while at the same time projecting the Islamic values. Ilmu pengetahuan modern saat ini, telah dirusak oleh sejumlah masalahdan konsekuensi yang tidak diinginkan, sebagaimana kritikus abad keduapuluh seperti Theodor Adorno dan Seyyed Hossein Nasr menyatakanbahwa ilmu pengetahuan modern telah dikosongkan dari nilai-nilaispiritual dan terputus dari masalah etika keagamaan. Akibatnya, sebagianbesar ilmuwan menganut dikotomi antara ilmu dan agama, hal tersebuttidak hanya perbedaan, tetapi juga pemisahan dan kontradiksi di antarakeduanya. Masalah yang sama datang dari pandangan secara luas, tetapinaif, bahwa ilmu itu netral dan bebas nilai, tidak memiliki kepentinganmanusia, ekonomi, politik, militer, nasional, industri atau komersial.Tanpa disadari bahwa ilmu pengetahuan modern bisa berbahaya danmerugikan pikiran serta kehidupan Muslim. Adapun seruan untukIslamisasi telah diluncurkan ke seluruh dunia Muslim dari Virginia hinggaCasablanca. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji gagasan Islamisasi ilmupengetahuan kontemporer sebagaimana dianut dan dielaborasi olehImam Suprayogo, mantan rektor Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN)Malang, Indonesia. Berdasarkan studi pustaka, penelitian ini menemukanbahwa gagasan Islamisasi Imam Suprayogo mengatur integrasi ilmu danagama untuk menghapus dikotomi yang telah lama ada di antarakeduanya, khususnya antara klaim ilmiah dan doktrin Islam. ImamSuprayogo juga mengusulkan untuk merekonstruksi paradigma keilmuanagama dengan memperkenalkan “pohon ilmu” serta meluncurkanprogram “Tarbiyah Ulul Albab” yang telah dilaksanakan selamaistilahnya dalam upaya mentransformasi UIN Malang menjadi lembagapendidikan Islam yang mengajarkan ilmu pengetahuan dan agamasekaligus memproyeksikan nilai-nilai Islam.

Abstract

Pendidikan Al-Qur’an di Taman Pendidikan Al-Qur'an (TPA) memiliki peran penting dalam membentuk generasi muda yang memiliki pemahaman agama yang baik. Namun, di Kecamatan Siman, Ponorogo, masih ditemukan banyak TPA yang menggunakan metode pembelajaran tradisional, sehingga kurang efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan mengaji anak-anak. Kurangnya standar kurikulum yang konsisten menjadi salah satu faktor utama dalam permasalahan ini. Oleh karena itu, tim Pengabdian Masyarakat Universitas Darussalam Gontor melakukan pendampingan implementasi kurikulum TPA sebagai upaya peningkatan kualitas pendidikan Al-Qur’an.Metode yang digunakan dalam program pendampingan ini meliputi observasi, wawancara, penyusunan, pemutakhiran, sosialisasi, monitoring, dan evaluasi kurikulum. Tim melakukan observasi langsung terhadap proses pembelajaran di TPA dan wawancara dengan para pengajar untuk mengidentifikasi kendala yang dihadapi. Selanjutnya, tim bekerja sama dengan kepala Pesantren Anak Sholeh Baitul Qur’an (PAS-BQ) untuk menyusun kurikulum yang lebih terstruktur dan sesuai dengan perkembangan zaman. Kurikulum yang telah disusun kemudian disosialisasikan kepada para pengajar TPA guna memastikan penerapannya secara efektif. Monitoring dilakukan untuk menilai implementasi kurikulum, sementara evaluasi dilaksanakan melalui ujian akhir, wisuda, dan pentas seni santri.Hasil dari pendampingan ini menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dalam proses pembelajaran di TPA. Sebanyak 85% pengajar merasa terbantu dengan kurikulum baru dalam menyusun materi ajar secara lebih sistematis. Selain itu, 78% pengajar melaporkan adanya peningkatan keterlibatan santri dalam proses belajar, yang ditandai dengan meningkatnya kehadiran dan partisipasi aktif mereka. Evaluasi juga menunjukkan bahwa 90% santri mengalami peningkatan kemampuan membaca Al-Qur’an dengan tajwid yang lebih baik. Dengan adanya pendampingan ini, diharapkan implementasi kurikulum yang lebih terstruktur dapat terus berlanjut dan menjadi model bagi TPA lainnya dalam meningkatkan kualitas pendidikan Al-Qur'an.

Abstract

Pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk mengoptimalkan potensi belajar siswa MTSS Ma’arif Al Bajuri melalui pemetaan minat dan bakat. Berbagai perbedaan dalam gaya belajar, minat, dan motivasi menyebabkan kesulitan bagi siswa dalam memahami materi pelajaran. Oleh karena itu, penting bagi pendidik untuk memahami karakteristik individu siswa agar dapat memberikan dukungan yang tepat. Program yang ditawarkan melibatkan kegiatan ekstrakurikuler seperti Kepramukaan, Desain Grafis, Kecakapan Berbicara, dan Puisi, serta program pembelajaran Bahasa Arab berbasis Mubaasyir untuk santri pondok pesantren. Tahapan pelaksanaan dimulai dengan perencanaan, diikuti dengan pengenalan minat dan bakat, serta evaluasi berkala untuk menilai perkembangan siswa. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan keterampilan dan motivasi siswa, serta membuka wawasan baru mengenai pentingnya pengembangan diri. Program ini diharapkan dapat menjadi model bagi lembaga pendidikan lain untuk mengintegrasikan pengembangan minat dan bakat dalam kurikulum mereka.

Abstract

This article explores the application of the theories of al-Inâyah (Providence) and al-Ikhtirâ’ (Creation) as a Quranic approach. The analysis is based on Ibn Rushd’s Manâhij al-Adillah fî Aqâ’id al-Millah, highlighting how he integrates Greek philosophy with Islam to explain God as the First Cause and the Organizer of the universe. The method used is library research with a content analysis approach. The results show that Ibn Rushd views the order of the universe as a manifestation of God's will, where creation itself serves as evidence of a Creator with a divine purpose. The theories of al-Inâyah and al-Ikhtirâ’ are employed to argue that the universe’s order and complexity are the results of divine intention, in line with Quranic teachings about God as Creator and Organizer. This study finds that Ibn Rushd combines Aristotelian philosophy with Quranic teachings to provide a more comprehensive understanding of God. Using both reason and revelation, he portrays God as an essence that transcends the physical realm. The findings contribute to a deeper understanding on Islamic theology by showing the compatibility between rational inquiry and divine revelation. This study also demonstrates Ibn Rushd’s significant influence on both Islamic and Western philosophical traditions, reflecting a profound integration of philosophy and theology in conceptualizing the divine.
