Abstract

The use of social media is often a threat to the character and behavior of adolescents in the current era of disruption. This study examines the impact of social media on adolescents in the digital era from the perspective of Islamic education. Through a qualitative phenomenological approach, this research involved six students of the Faculty of Da'wah and Communication of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta who have direct contact with social media, through the stages of interviews, observation, and documentation. The results of the study show that social media has positive impacts, such as facilitating access to information, building personal branding, and increasing insight, including in Islamic values. However, it also brings negative impacts, such as addiction, spreading false information, cyberbullying, and the FoMO (Fear of Missing Out) phenomenon. In addition, social media platform algorithms often control news information or content to its users that can affect the understanding of users' moral and religious values, so digital literacy and wisdom in filtering social media content are needed. Social media literacy in the perspective of Islamic education acts as a moral filter to help adolescents use social media wisely. So that through it can minimize the negative impact and shape the character of the younger generation in accordance with Islamic values.

Abstract

This research explores the relevance of Thomas Lickona's concept of character education in the context of Era Society 5.0. This research collects and analyses various relevant literature using a qualitative research method with a library research type. The data obtained includes books, articles, and other literature on character education and Era Society 5.0. The results show that Era Society 5.0, which emphasizes collaboration between technology and humans, requires strengthening moral values to ensure technology positively impacts social life. Thomas Lickona identified three main elements in character education: knowing the good, loving the good, and acting the good. These elements emphasize the importance of moral knowledge, moral feelings, and moral behaviour, which are interconnected and need to be applied in daily life. The implementation of character education in Era Society 5.0 must integrate technology with moral values through a comprehensive approach, involve all elements of society, and create a learning environment that supports the development of good character. This research concludes that Lickona's concept of character education is very relevant and can be applied effectively in Era Society 5.0 to form individuals with strong characters who can utilize technology wisely.

Abstract

Religious moderation is one of the teachings of Islam as stated in the Qur'an. It should be noted that moderation is a middle attitude without discrimination, intervention or one-sidedness which contains moderate, fair and balanced ideas in all aspects of life, whether religious, social, educational, cultural, and others. Moderate attitudes are important to instill in the nation's generation as early as possible. Given that Indonesia is a country whose society is plural and multicultural, it is not surprising that there are diverse differences. Moderate attitudes need to be instilled to maintain the integrity of relationships both individually, in groups and in the state. Recently, Indonesia has been bombarded with issues about religion, such as blasphemy, hate speech, discrimination of minority communities, extreme groups and others. With this, it certainly threatens the integrity and peace in Indonesia. An alternative path that can be used is through Islamic education. Islamic education is a relevant early solution to understand the meaning of tolerance, justice, harmony, balance and love of peace. This research will explain the meaning of religious moderation using descriptive qualitative methodology with library research studies sourced from books, journals and the Qur'an. The results of this study indicate that there is a development in terms of human character to become a moderate and reactive human being.

Abstract

This study explores the role of Islamic education in shaping student character in the context of the modern era, particularly amidst the challenges of Industry 4.0. Utilizing a qualitative methodology with a literature review approach, this research delves into historical perspectives on character, Islamic viewpoints on human nature, and contemporary learner characteristics, especially among Generation Z. Character in Islamic education is conceptualized as an amalgamation of innate traits and environmental influences, as reflected in Islamic teachings and the tripod theory of education. The study uncovers four primary streams of character formation - Fatalistic-Passive, Neutral-Passive, Positive-Active, and Dualistic-Active, aligning with Islamic teachings on children's innate purity and environmental impact. The analysis reveals that the rapid technological advancements characteristic of Industry 4.0 pose significant challenges to student character, leading to moral and ethical dilemmas. Islamic education emerges as a crucial tool for instilling values such as sincerity and respect for teachers while internalizing Islamic values within familial settings. The study emphasizes the need for an integrated educational approach that balances academic pursuits with character development, adapting Islamic education to modern challenges while retaining its core values. It contributes to the discourse on education, highlighting the role of religious teachings in contemporary educational practices. Recognizing its limitations, the study suggests further research into the application and long-term impact of character education across diverse educational settings.
