Abstract

INDUSTRY-BASED TRANSFORMATIVE PEDAGOGY: A TRANSDISCIPLINARY APPROACH TO THE IMPLEMENTATION OF MERDEKA BELAJARThe era of technological disruption and industrial transformation demands that Indonesia's vocational education system shift from conventional learning models toward more contextual, collaborative, and transdisciplinary approaches. This study develops a conceptual framework called PETALS (Pedagogic Empowerment Through Industry-Linked Transdisciplinary System) in response to the low level of integration between industry needs and teaching practices in vocational high schools (SMK). By integrating elements of transformative pedagogy, experiential learning, design thinking, and Triple Helix collaboration, PETALS is structured around six core pillars: (1) industry-based professional development for teachers; (2) embedded curriculum co-designed with industry partners; (3) transdisciplinary project-based learning; (4) portfolio-based authentic assessment; (5) long-term industry partnerships; and (6) sustainable policy support. The methodology employed includes a systematic literature review of 70 sources from Scopus, Google Scholar, Garuda, and national policy documents (2015–2024), along with a simulated application of the framework at SMK Negeri 1 Cikarang. Findings from the simulation and literature synthesis indicate that PETALS enhances curriculum relevance to industry demands, strengthens students’ reflective and collaborative competencies, and provides an integrated model of authentic assessment. Modular implementation of PETALS is recommended as a pilot across various vocational sectors and as a reference for national vocational policy development aligned with the Vision of Indonesia Emas 2045.

Abstract

This community service program aimed to enhance the capacity of teachers at Ma’had Al-Istiqlal Foundation, Karawang, in designing creative learning through the implementation of the flipped classroom model. This model was selected because it aligns with student-centered learning approaches and has the potential to foster more meaningful classroom interactions. The implementation methods included the dissemination of flipped classroom concepts, technical training in the preparation of learning materials, mentoring in lesson design practices, and evaluation of program outcomes. The results indicate a significant improvement in teachers’ understanding of flipped classroom principles, their ability to develop pre-class learning materials (videos and digital modules), and their planning of in-class activities emphasizing higher-order thinking skills. Moreover, teachers demonstrated positive attitudinal changes toward instructional innovation, becoming more enthusiastic and confident about implementing this approach in their respective classrooms. Institutional support from the foundation, such as providing technological facilities and establishing teacher learning communities, further strengthened the program’s impact. This activity is expected to serve as a starting point for transforming teaching and learning at Ma’had Al-Istiqlal as well as a model of best practice for other educational institutions.

Abstract

Mutu pendidikan merupakan fondasi utama dalam mencetak sumber daya manusia yang unggul, kreatif, dan kompetitif. Pemerintah Indonesia telah mengimplementasikan berbagai kebijakan strategis, seperti reformasi kurikulum, pelatihan guru, pemerataan akses pendidikan, dan digitalisasi pembelajaran. Meskipun demikian, implementasi kebijakan tersebut masih menghadapi tantangan besar, termasuk disparitas pendidikan antarwilayah, keterbatasan sumber daya, dan kurangnya kolaborasi antarpemangku kepentingan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis efektivitas kebijakan pemerintah dalam meningkatkan mutu pendidikan di Indonesia, dengan menyoroti tantangan utama, strategi penyelesaian, serta pentingnya kolaborasi berkelanjutan antara pemerintah, sekolah, masyarakat, dan sektor swasta. Studi ini menekankan bahwa peningkatan mutu pendidikan memerlukan sinergi multisektoral yang holistik, penggunaan teknologi yang merata, dan pemanfaatan kebijakan berbasis bukti untuk menciptakan sistem pendidikan yang inklusif dan adaptif terhadap dinamika global.
